A NEWSLETTER FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF ORANGE BEACH
“Tourism is our primary economic engine, but take note of the direct economic impact that sports are making in
our own city as well as the region. Over a half million dollars was spent directly in the area during the Spring
Beach Blast Softball / Baseball tournament. The City of Orange Beach investment in all of our facilities is making
a year round economy a true reality for our residents, workers and businesses. Have a great Easter!”
Pete Blalock - Mayor
Softball / Baseball Season Is Well Underway in O.B.
Mayor Pete Blalock threw out the first pitch and the season was underway in Orange Beach as a record number of
players and teams took the field to celebrate “Opening Day”. The official parade traveled from City Hall to the
SportsPlex and memories were made. Thanks to all City of Orange Beach
employees and family who are coaching,
helping, cheering or just driving the kids to
the park. Involvement and support are the
key ingredient to making a child’s development the most it can be and our youth
sports are no exception. On another sporting note, the numbers are in on the

near 100 teams total to Baldwin County. Orange Beach is
Mayor Blalock’s First Pitch
estimated to have generated $415,069 in direct spending
with just the softball portion of the tournament. Area impact for softball alone is just under
$700K in direct spending. Information
is derived from data collected by
each team using cost of lodging,
number of nights in town, meal exSoftball Introductions

The Inaugural Dollar Drive to benefit Relay For Life was a great
success thanks to the many who participated this year. A final
tally will be announced at the drawing to be held on Wednesday,
April 19 at 2:30pm in the City Council Chambers. All are invited to
attend and share in the big drawing excitement. We hope next
year’s Dollar Drive can get every employee’s involvement to share
in the success and prize opportunities while raising a record amount to benefit the American Cancer Society. Just think of what we can do as a team!
Sail Camp classes are filling weekly. Sign up today. Adult Classes will be offered May 22-26
and August 14-18 from 4-6pm. Call Leslie Dabney at 980-5946 to register.
