Over a half million dollars was spent directly in the area during the Spring Beach Blast Softball / Baseball tournament. The City of Orange Beach investment in all of our facilities is making a year round economy a true reality for our residents, workers and businesses. Have a great Easter!” Pete Blalock - Mayor Softball / Baseball Season Is Well Underway in O.B. Mayor Pete Blalock threw out the first pitch and the season was underway in Orange Beach as a record number of players and teams took the field to celebrate “Opening Day”. The official parade traveled from City Hall to the SportsPlex and memories were made. Thanks to all City of Orange Beach employees and family who are coaching, helping, cheering or just driving the kids to the park. Involvement and support are the key ingredient to making a child’s development the most it can be and our youth sports are no exception. On another sporting note, the numbers are in on the The Young Guns “Economic Impact of the Spring Beach Blast bringing 61 softball teams to Orange Beach and near 100 teams total to Baldwin County. Orange Beach is Mayor Blalock’s First Pitch estimated to have generated $415,069 in direct spending with just the softball portion of the tournament. Area impact for softball alone is just under $700K in direct spending. Information is derived from data collected by each team using cost of lodging, number of nights in town, meal exSoftball Introductions penditures and travel. Realistic numbers are higher knowing that mom, Employees & Officials coaching dad or grandpa shop, golf or fish while in town besides watching games.
