This section lists the Main Attractions that we intend to play in the coming weeks. Additional unlisted films will also become available. This list is only an educated guess, though, since film release plans often change. When will these main films play? Scheduling our Main Attractions is weekto-week. On Monday, we decide what main films will play starting that Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the showtimes for the upcoming week and then update our website and telephone hotline. We also send out a weekly email (which you can receive by signing up at our website). Sometimes, we book a main film a few weeks in advance, which we post on our website’s “Coming Attractions” section. For our latest Main Attractions plans, visit: AmblerTheater.org (Or call our hotline at 215 345 7855.) The Grand Budapest Hotel Le Week-End UK - Roger Michell – 1 hr 33 min LE WEEK-END stars Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan as a British couple celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway in Paris. As they travel around the city, they revisit the highs and lows of their relationship. It’s a bittersweet, enjoyable love story about grown-up people tackling real-world issues with wit and intelligence. USA - Wes Anderson - 1 hr 40 min Wes Anderson’s latest film recounts the adventures of a legendary concierge, played by Ralph Fiennes, at a famous European hotel in the 1930’s. It involves the theft of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for a family fortune - all against the backdrop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent. It’s a vibrant and imaginative evocation of a bygone era. This is Anderson’s most elaborate, lavish-looking picture yet, though still made in his distinct style. With an extraordinary supporting cast including Tilda Swinton, Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Wilkinson, and Owen Wilson, among others. MAIN ATTRACTIONS Visitors USA - Godfrey Reggio - 1 hr 37 min Shot in dazzling black and white and presented in 4K, Godfrey Reggio’s first film in over a decade showcases his unique visual mastery through a series of haunting, dreamlike images of faces and hands as they interact with technological tools. The effect is mesmerizing and is perfectly complimented by a new score from frequent collaborator Philip Glass. Tim’s Vermeer USA - Teller - 1 hr 20 min Tim Jenison, a Texas-based inventor, attempts to solve one of the mysteries of art: how did 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer manage to paint so realistically? Spanning a decade, Jenison’s adventure takes him to Holland, where Vermeer painted, on a pilgrimage to Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney and eventually to Buckingham Palace. Presented by renowned illusionists and professional debunkers, Penn & Teller. Only Lovers Left Alive USA – Jim Jarmusch – 2 hr 2 min ONLY LOVERS is a heavy dose of cool wrapped in a hypnotic vampire story. That’s right, it’s a Jim Jarmusch vampire movie. With Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as the hippest, most beautiful vampires ever in a nocturnal reverie that celebrates their centuries-old love affair. Set in Tangier and Detroit and featuring stunning cinematography, glorious set design and amazing music, this is the filmmaker’s best work in years. Belle UK - Amma Asante - 1 hr 45 min Gugu Mbatha-Raw takes the title role alongside Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, and Emily Watson in this movie based on the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate, bi-racial daughter of a Royal Navy admiral in 18th-century Britain. BELLE is a gorgeous period drama that explores the intertwined relationship between British aristocracy and the institution of slavery. A MBLERT HEATER.ORG The Lunchbox India - Ritesh Batra – 1 hr 44 min in English & Hindi w/subtitles In Mumbai, India, a misdelivered lunchbox brings together two very different people — a neglected housewife and a solitary widower on the verge of retirement. This beautiful film effortlessly weaves themes of gender, class, and generational differences into a simple love story. Whether it’s cooking a meal, reading a letter, or riding a crowded train, the film’s small moments are precise and completely enchanting. Limited Engagements We try to play each of our Main Attractions films for a full multi-week run. Sometimes, however, we are unable to play a film in a timely or complete way, and it becomes a question of either squeezing it in or not playing it at all. We then often schedule that film for a couple of mid-week screenings, called Limited Engagements. Make sure that you sign up for our weekly email blast, so that you don’t miss these short, last-chance screenings. 215 345 7855 Special programs H SPRING 2014 This Special Programs series contains the fixed schedules for the County Theater, Ambler Theater, and the Hiway Theater.
