Dear Parents,
The Ixonia School staff continue to emphasize with students all the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead when they take responsibility and put
forth effort. We continue to learn about the power of the 3 letter
word…”yet” and make that a habit in our daily conversation. There is still a
lot of learning to do! Dr. Carol Dweck’s research has concluded that people’s
abilities and talents are not the only two factors that contribute to successes.
One factor that is just as important as abilities and talents is a person’s mindset. The two types of mindsets are fixed mindset and growth mindset -- we
are continually working on developing student’s growth mindset.
Last month, I shared this video with you, but wanted to share again in case
you missed it. It’s simplicity captures what the power of “yet” is all about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLeUvZvuvAs
Included are a some phrases you can use with your children when you provide feedback and are things our staff are continually trying to make as their
habit when working with students:
 You are becoming more confident at...
 You must have tried really hard at this...
 The steps you took must have really helped you…
 OK, so you didn’t do as well as you wanted to. Let’s look at this as an
opportunity to learn.
 You are so close, just not quite there yet.
 It must feel good to follow the steps you have taken…
 I am watching the way you’re approaching this and I think your effort
is outstanding.

When you think you can’t do it, remind yourself that you can’t do it YET.

So help us join in the movement of changing the idea of “I can’t” to “I can’t
YET!” Now that’s powerful language that can inspire learning!

Dear Parents:
Once again Ixonia teachers will be participating in a Post Office unit, designed to
help students learn how to write and send letters. February 4th, students in 5K4th grade, will meet their “writing buddy”… and through the 15th they will write
their new friend two letters.
Parents are encouraged to take part in this lesson! Please consider writing
a letter to your own child and sending it to the school, either through the mail or
by dropping it off. Please put your child’s grade level and teacher on the
envelope.
Child’s Name (Grade & Teacher)
We know the children will have fun learning
about letter writing—help us make it an exciting experience by participating at home.
Thank you!

Notes for the office:
If your child will be leaving school before 3:40 it is important to let both their
teacher and the office know about your plans. Informing both the classroom
teacher and Mrs. Hunter in the office will help make sure your student is ready to
go when you need them. You can send two notes—one for the teacher, one for
the office…
or add the office to your email… [email protected].

Birthdays!
At Ixonia, we love to celebrate birthdays! On your child’s birthday—or half birthday—we announce their name on the loud speaker and give them a little gift. Please make sure any birthday treat

Way to go cast and crew of Ixonia’s Musical Rats! Two wonderful performances

January PBIS—Keeping Everyone In Mind
We had a great time at Ixonia in January
Keeping Everyone In Mind.
Our falcons earned a whopping 1, 242 feathers and filled the cubbie days before
the deadline.
And take a look at all these stars! Principal Yearling surprised students with cubbie checks… on the look out for clean and neat hallway cubbies. When she
found a nice space, she awarded a gold star to the classroom.
Congratulations to all of our falcons!
To celebrate our achievements, classes teamed up for some yarn ball fun in the
Ixonia gym. Take a look at what fun we had!
