Rising 6th Grade Orientation BMS Pathways to Success Thursday, April 24, 6:00, BMS Gym Blythewood Middle School is having their annual BMS Pathways to Success on Thursday, April 24th, 6:00 pm, beginning in the school gym. The previous orientation in January provided information for those families considering expanded choice. April’s program will be focusing on making a successful transition for those students and their parents who will be attending Blythewood Middle this fall. You will learn about summer opportunities like the BMS JumpStart Camp, receive information about summer reading activity, 6th grade supply list, and information about enrichment offerings. Additionally, you will find out what Charger Kick-Off is all about and how you can receive information and keep in touch. Along with visiting sixth grade classrooms and meeting teachers, you will be able to learn about the various tools teachers use to communicate and work with students. Our goal is to provide tools for a smooth transition from elementary school to the middle school. We are looking forward to meeting and working with you soon. Stephanie Eastwood, 6th Grade Administrator Comprehensive Health Information Meeting All BMS students will have the opportunity to participate in the Comprehensive Health curriculum immediately following PASS testing this year. Comprehensive Health is a unit that focuses on the human reproductive system and family life. This instruction will take place during the student’s science classes. Students will receive opt-out forms the last week in April and these forms should be returned by Tuesday, May 6th. If a student does not return a form, they will participate in the unit. Students not participating in this health instruction will be working in a separate location on an alternate health assignment. If you would like to preview any of the material used during this unit of study, there will be an opportunity to view materials and ask questions April 29th at 6:00 PM in the BMS cafeteria. If you are not able to attend this meeting, please contact Greta Carter at [email protected] or Nicole Schuldes at [email protected] to arrange a time to view the materials. Attention Parents of Rising Seventh Graders: Below is a required change to the South Carolina Immunization law for when your child will be entering the seventh grade: SC DHEC is providing important information in advance of a future immunization requirement. This requirement begins with the 2014-2015 school year. One (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered on or after the 7th birthday will be required for all seventh graders. It is strongly recommended that adolescents who have not yet received a dose of Tdap vaccine be immunized in advance of this requirement. Please bring an updated shot record to your school nurse as soon as your child has received the Tdap vaccine. Do not wait until your child is entering the 7th grade to get the shot. Mrs. Brown’s 7th Grade Math Class Seventh grade math students in Mrs. Brown's class have been learning about ratios, proportions, and scale. Students applied their knowledge of these topics and created scale drawings of their favorite candy bars. Richland District 2 is hosting a Film Festival event you do not want to miss! For more information please click on the link below: ACCEPT OR DECLINE OFFERS MARCH 24-28, 2014 A few years ago, I had a horse named Lady who didn’t always live up to her name. I was surprised when Lady totally freaked out the first time I moved my horses to a different pasture. Apparently, she couldn’t stand being separated from her pasture mates for even a moment. This same scene played out several times over the next few months. I tried everything I knew, but still Lady was often disrespectful and rebellious. Then, I remembered something that had been quite effective with another filly, our teen-aged daughter. During her sophomore year of high school, she too became “herd-bound” and we had to take action to help her. Our age knows nothing but reaction, and leaps from one extreme to another. -Reinhold Niebuhr For more, go to: robbaggett.blogspot.com
