A regular fixture at Astoria Sunday Market is Jonathon’s LTD, whose booth creates an entry way to their estate jewelry, art and antique shop at 332 – 12th Street. On the street, Jonathon’s sells t-shirts they specially designed just for sale at Astoria Sunday Market created from their collection of antique canning labels. Old canning labels are known for their colorful and detailed images. New this year will be canning label prints ready to take home and hang. Owned by Charlie and Dana DeDolph, Jonathon’s LTD is the culmination of more than thirty years’ experience procuring antiques and historic pieces. They take pride in the quality of craftsmanship and authentication of pieces found in their shop. When purchasing antiques, you become a caretaker of history and preservation of timeless craftsmanship. To hold history in your hands is a treasure in itself and at Jonathon’s LTD there are a variety of treasures to consider. Known and respected for their excellent selection of estate jewelry, art and antiques, you’ll find good value as well as quality in their historical and vintage pieces. It is this sentiment that gave birth to their slogan, “A value seekers paradise.” The DeDolph’s love the rich history of Astoria, which echoes their love of antiques. Astoria is the oldest US settlement west of the Rockies. History buffs love visiting Astoria for its variety of Victorian and Craftsman homes and sense of history that remains palatable even with the bustle of modern living. Visiting Jonathon’s LTD offers an opportunity to bring a piece of history home to enjoy until being passed on to the next generation of caretakers. 332 – 12th Street 503-325-7600 [email protected] When people travel to Astoria, they often fall in love and want to take something home to keep that connection alive. When people in Astoria fall in love, they go to Holly McHone Jewelers. They have fine diamond and colored gemstone jewelry, a state of the art shop for custom design and repairs, and a standard poodle named Seddy. Holly McHone Jewelers specializes in Diamonds, bridal and custom designed jewelry. Thanks to the internet, they have a large clientele on the west coast and can work with customers wherever they live. And if you want something special to commemorate your love of Astoria, or for the love of your life, a token from Holly’s may be just what you need. 1150 Commercial St. Astoria 503-325-8029 www.hollymchone.co WALKABLE Downtown Lodging DOWNTOWN A storia by foot is the best way to enjoy our downtown and our active and beautiful waterfront. But there are other modes of transportation that make this an accessible town to navigate. We are a bike-friendly town, whether by pedal or road hog. The colorful red Trolley with its band of knowledgeable conductors is the most fun way to reach the Market and has frequent stops all along the waterfront stretching from the Port of Astoria on the west end all the way to Pier 39 on the east part of town. There are convenient stops to the Market on 10th and 12th Streets. Astoria Sunday Market Shopper’s Tip: Don’t park near the Market. Instead, make Sunday an afternoon for a wonderful stroll by parking on the west or east end of town or near the riverfront by 10th or near the Columbia River Maritime Museum. From there, walk, ride your bike, or take the trolley to 12th Street and dive into the heart of Astoria Sunday Market. Astoria Riverfront Trolley Trolley Barn: 503-325-8790 Please note: Due to technical difficulties, the Trolley does not run during heavy rains. http://webpages.charter.net/astoriatrolley C ab Service Old Gray Cab (503) 338-6030 Mom’s Cab 503-325-8210 Royal Cab of Astoria 503-325-5818 THE COMMODORE INN 258 – 14th Street Astoria, OR 97103 503-325-4747 www.commodoreastoria.com THE HOTEL ELLIOTT 357 – 12th Street Astoria, OR 97103 877-378-1924 www.hotelelliott.com CLEMENTINE’S 847 Eighth Street Astoria, OR 97103 503-325-2005 www.clementines-bb.com Coast Rehabilitation Services New Food Court and Operation Providers to Astoria Sunday Market! MARKET BIZ KIDS! Astoria Sunday Market Young Entrepreneurs Club In Partnership with Clatsop County 4-H Create, Invent and Grow! Astoria Sunday Market requires a great deal of operational assistance to set up and tear down each week plus maintain all the trash and recycling bins and restrooms. For the past several years Mike and Liz Olson have provided this service creating big shoes to fill as they, their daughters and helper Travis have done an outstanding job over the years. The Olson’s are now focusing their attention as vendors with Punky’s Phat Dogs and Burgers – a popular food booth. In searching for a good partner to help with the Market operational and food court services, CRS became a natural connection. “We love the idea of partnering with CRS and providing a regular source of income for them and the people they serve,” explained Market Director Cyndi Mudge. “We are excited to have them help us this year and hope it grows into a long-term experience.” CRS is a 501 ( c ) 3 designated non-profit organization providing residential, employment, and day support to people with developmental disabilities. CRS has provided support to people with disabilities since 1974. ASTORIA TIMBER FESTIVAL Saturday February 8 2013 • Logging Competitions • Wood Crafts • Music • Food • Lumberjack Breakfast! & More! Astoria Sunday Market is a dog-gone friendly place. We are also a bustling and lively affair so not all dogs will be wagging their tails during their stay. If you have a nervous dog or one that is not well socialized please consider leaving him (or her) at home. Core to the mission of Astoria Sunday Market is revitalizing the historic downtown district. Supporting our merchants is important to us and we’re proud of our locally owned businesses. Pet Works is owned by Rebecca and Eric Smith. They’ve been in business since 1975 with their Longview store and opened the Astoria location in 2008. A popular and iconic feature of the store is Martha, who runs their pet advice blog. In addition to her own sage advice and tips of wisdom, she welcomes questions about pets at www.thepetworks.net – Just click on the Martha Petworks link at the top of the page. “Our community is vital to us. We strive each day to add value to our customer’s lives,” explains Martha. “We want to create a sense of “home” that our customers can count on, becoming a resource to those who need us, and understanding what owning a pet truly means.” Rebecca and Eric believe that employing members of the community is not just a means to an end, but a responsibility as a local business. “We feel it’s important to offer training and education to our employees, for a sense of fulfillment and to develop a team,” explains Rebecca. Their goal is to offer family raised, local pets. The Pet Works believes that bringing a new pet into your home should always be an enriching experience for both you and your new pet. In 2013, they are increasing their selection of Northwest and USA products. With the target of 75% USA across the stores. They are researching new lines, and bringing in new products each month to help meet this goal. Their aim is to always offer high quality products at everyday low prices. The Pet Works believes that their value is in their products as well as the service that they offer. They work hard to offer competitive prices to every customer. DOG DAY AFTERNOON! Sunday, Aug 25 The Pet Works and Clatsop Animal Assistance are joining Astoria Sunday Market in creating a Dog Fashion Show in September at the Market. Astoria Sunday Market has become a place where dogs show up in their Sunday best. Some are walking while others are strolled through the Market or carried in backpacks. The Fashion Show is your chance to really bring on the glam and strut your fluff. There will be some fun event for dog lovers and families with contests and prizes. Watch for details at www.AstoriaSundayMarket.com of “like” our Facebook at www.facebook.com/astoriasundaymarket for the latest news. Here are a few Doggie Doo-doos and Don’ts to help make your visit more enjoyable for yourself, your pup, the vendors and all the other good folks visiting the Market. 1. Short Leash: Please keep your dog on a short leash and do not use retractable leashes. The Market is a crowded place and it is easy for other visitors to trip over leashes (or your dog). 2. No Doo-Doo Allowed: Please be sure your dog has been thoroughly walked in an appropriate area before coming to the Market. If your dog has taken care of his business at home he or she is less likely to need a relief at the Market. If Mother Nature does call, please PLEASE clean up after your dog. We have doggie-emergency cleaning kits at the Cargo Trailer by the Food Court and by the Portable Office parked at Duane and 12th. 3. No “tinkling” on vendor products or tents! (One would think this doesn’t need to be spelled out but alas…) Please curb your dog. Some of our vendors charge dog-owners a cleaning fee of $50 or more and the Market supports them in this endeavor. Having your dog at the Market means making sure you are watching the dog at all times. 4. Inquisitive Noses: Dogs follow their noses, especially around food. We request that dogs and their noses be kept away from our food vendor booths. We suggest having a partner sit with the dog at one of the tables while you find your favorite snack or meal. 5. Not Everyone is Nuts About Mutts: Please remember that not everyone loves dogs the way you do and some people may even be afraid of dogs – especially the large breeds. No matter how sweet and adorable you know your pooch to be, please be respectful of others. One final tip that my mother gave me as a child. Never ever tell someone “My dog doesn’t bite.” ALL dogs bite when the right set of circumstances come into play. No matter how loving, adorable, and sweet-tempered your mastiff or pug may be, the right trigger could cause the dog to bite. In particular, we have many children at the Market carrying yummy treats right at dog-level. Even a good dog may not be able to curb their excitement when that kind of temptation is just one lick away. • Aggressive dogs (or owners) will be asked to leave the Market. We strive to maintain a fun and pleasant environment for everyone and with your cooperation we can continue being dog-gone friendly! ASTORIA ROTARY “Service ABOVE Self” Is Rotary RIGHT for you?
