CERAMIC TILES OF ITALY AT ICFF
Welcome to ICFF 2009. On behalf of the Italian
Trade Commission, I would like to invite you to
visit our Ceramic Tiles of Italy state-of-the-art
booth designed by the internationally acclaimed
Italian architect Michele De Lucchi.
This is the first time that the Italian Trade
Commission in New York will be exhibiting with
a Ceramic Tiles of Italy pavilion, as part of the
i Saloni Worldwide, at this important design
event in New York.
In spite of general decrease of ceramic tiles
imports to the United States, the Italian ceramic
tile industry continues to display outstanding
vitality and maintains a leadership position in
the United States in terms of market share. I am
proud to say that the Italian Trade Commission
has greatly contributed to the leadership of
Italian tiles in the US market. This extraordinary
event itself, confirms our commitment to
support and assist the Italian tile manufacturers
in the US market.
The Italian Trade Commission, in collaboration
with the Italian Association of Ceramics
- Confindustria Ceramica, is focused on this
dynamic industry, and promotes Italian tiles to
US architects, specifiers, dealers, distributors,
contractors and design professionals through a
wide range of promotional activities including:
events, industry trade shows, advertising
campaigns, and much more. Our Italian
Ceramic Tile Center in New York is now the
reference point for all American professionals
who want to learn more about Italian tiles and
wish to connect with Italian manufacturers.
This brochure was designed to be a handy
tool to use at the show and to keep for your
reference after the event. The following pages
introduce 13 leading Italian manufactures that
are taking part in this event and will showcase
a vast range of new introductions from Italy.
All of our ceramic tile manufacturers are
setting trends in formats, finishes and textures,
technological advances in production and
demonstrate a commitment to conservation
and sustainable design. You will find also
information on their distribution network in the
US.
We hope that we will be able to create an
unforgettable experience for all the visitors of
our booth. We are confident that the Italian
ceramic tile industry innovations will be highly
appreciated by our trade partners and the A&D
community. Please also be sure to take our free
educational materials and assorted company
catalogs for your resource library.
For more than 25 years, Confindustria Ceramica
(The Italian Association of Ceramics) an the
Italian Trade Commission have been promoting
Italian ceramic tiles to US architects, specifiers,
dealers, distributors, contractors and design
professionals through a wide range of promotional activities including: events, industry trade
shows, advertising campaigns, and much more.
With more than 25,000 attendees from all
over the world, the ICFF is considered to be the
premier platform for modern design and cutting edge products for the home and contract
markets in North America. Participating in this
global fair was an easy decision for Ceramic
Tiles of Italy. After testing the waters in 2008
with a small institutional exhibit, Ceramic Tiles
of Italy was ready to make ICFF a part of the
industry’s extensive tradeshow program.
The first step was to commission worldrenowned interior designer, architect and
industrial designer, Michele De Lucchi to design
a pavilion to showcase a diverse range of Italian
ceramic tiles for an audience of high-powered
industry professionals. His impressive 3500square foot exhibition will connect to the
popular i Saloni Worldwide pavilion. Like all the
exhibits that make up the show’s large Italian
contingency, the space is designed to inspire
and excite.
The booth will have two reception points for
general information on the Italian industry.
Staff will distribute new publications and update attendees on design trends and develop-

Executive Director for the USA
ments in sustainable manufacturing practices.
The center of the pavilion will have an open
space to evoke the feeling of a traditional
Italian piazza. The interior’s whimsical layout
is intended to stimulate the senses. Colorful
tiles will be hung from the trusses, creating a
ceramic art installation that follows the contour
of the main aisle. Modular tiles made to look
like other natural materials including stone and
wood will be used on the floor.
Thirteen individual exhibits will be set up
along the perimeter to recreate the environment of an Italian marketplace similar to the
bustling produce markets found in old-world
cities like Bologna and Rome. These companies include: Del Conca, Impronta, Settecento,
Refin, Lea, Etruria, Tagina, Sant’Agostino, Lord,
Marazzi, Casalgrande Padana, Fap and Caesar.
Each will bring their latest collections of colorful
and design-forward products.
To add to the buzz and draw even more guests
into the interactive pavilion, Ceramic Tiles of
Italy will host book signings, discussions, receptions and even an offsite exhibit celebrating the
Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition in the
Meatpacking District. It is all part of its effort to
show its appreciation to its valued partners and
to invite new clients to see all that the industry
has to offer. With so much on the program,
ICFF will be a great way to wrap up Ceramic
Tiles of Italy’s US spring tradeshow circuit,
which included successful shows in Chicago
(Coverings) and San Francisco (AIA Convention).

hosts the stars of the design world. Having
seen personalities of the calibre of Louis Kahn
or James Steerling during the 1990s, this
decade has enjoyed the presence of masters
of contemporary architecture including Odille
Decq, Alvaro Siza, Thom Mayne, Massimiliano
Fucksas, Mario Botta – to name but a few. A
link with the world of architecture and design,
also underlined by the trade fair posters, which,
over the past 10 years, have been created
by the modern masters in this field. A lectio

an important appointment for students and
established professionals alike.
But the beating heart of Cersaie lies in the
exhibition halls, where the potential for use
of ceramic materials can clearly be seen
in the design and creation of the stands
themselves, which in many cases are veritable
communication projects. Avant-garde solutions
for home furnishings, as well as commercial,
executive and industrial settings, without
forgetting the field of urban furnishing.

speak for themselves: more than 80,000 visitors
are expected, a third of which from abroad,
representing the Gotha of the worldwide

design.
Following in the footsteps of its very own
