The idea for the Co-op was developed by The Windam & Windsor An Urban Renewal Project Trust (non-profit) in the hopes of providing affordable, yet durable and energy-efficient, modern living spaces that would renew downtown Brattleboro. The Food Co-op on the ground level thrives, while the residents on the floors above enjoy an urban lifestyle. The developers, having a successful relationship with the local Marvin Windows retailer, chose Infinity Windows for aesthetic reasons as well as their superior durability. High performance in extreme weather was also a crucial factor, as Vermont winters have been known to be harsh. In 2012 the Brattleboro Co-op building was recognized by the EPA with a “Smart Growth Achievement Award” for energy efficiency.
