The Heavens and The Earth
The Heavens and The Earth A capital campaign for the Main Hall of the Latchis Theatre to replace the seats and restore the historic zodiac ceiling Help us surround you in beauty and comfort! The fundraising goal for this long-awaited restoration is $550,000 and we are more than half way there! We have raised over $300,000 with enthusiastic investment from what we affectionately call the Latchis ‘family’: Latchis Arts and Latchis Corporation Boards of Directors, Seats and Ceiling Campaign Committee and Advisory Board, Latchis Corporation and Latchis Arts staff; The Thomas Thompson Trust, Vermont Arts Council, Windham Foundation, USDA Rural Development, Kahn-Mason Foundation, Brattleboro Savings and Loan, Merchants Bank, long time supporters and many other community-spirited individuals and businesses. The Heavens and The Earth We are more than halfway there! The Main Hall of the Latchis Theatre is Brattleboro’s community space: a movie theatre, a performance venue, a meeting place. After 75 years of continuous use, Latchis Arts has embarked on a 21st-century upgrade. With the commitment and generosity of community donors, we will provide beautiful and comfortable seating and a clear blue zodiac sky for celestial contemplation. To that end, we invite you to join with the many Latchis friends and family who have already donated over $300,000 to the $550,000 goal. Emboldened by this generous outpouring, we ask for your support. Your one-time gift or two-year pledge will help us reach this important goal. Project Scope Campaign Goal - Budget breakdown New Seats Restored Ceiling Upgraded and enhanced Lighting Floor treatment and carpentry $550,000 Need Timeline For 75 years, the Latchis building in downtown Brattleboro has been well loved by hundreds of thousands of visitors from near and far. Built in 1938, generations of theatre patrons have worn out the seats and decades of wear and tear tell their stories in the sky. Impromptu audience polls have produced overwhelming cries for new seats. This and countless other observations moved the Latchis Arts Board toward replacement of theatre seating, as well as restoration of the magnificent constellation-studded ceiling. We will re-open the Main Theatre in October with new, beautiful, comfortable seats on The Earth, and a dazzling zodiac array adorning The Heavens! The Main Theatre will be closed in August and September 2013. (The Ballroom Theatre, Fountain Theatre and Latchis 4 will remain open.) A successful campaign will inspire continued enjoyment of this downtown treasure, where culture has created community since 1938. The constellation sign Virgo, part of the Latchis Theatre ceiling. Information regarding our many projects and achievements is available on request. Our goals • To steward this significant building as it ages. • To build community and provide access to all segments of the public to cinematic, performing and visual arts. “The Latchis Theatre is one of the reasons we located our business in Brattleboro. We love having a lively performance space and movie house right in downtown, easily accessible to all. We are very excited that the Latchis plans to renovate the unique Main Theatre to make it an even better event venue for the community!” Naming Opportunities The Heavens The Earth The Zodiac Greek Isles (aisles) $50,000 Sorry, no longer available $25,000 $10,000 per sign Most have sold!
