ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Northern Territory Government and the City of Darwin are seeking to
create an iconic new entry into the Darwin City Centre, through the
Barneson Boulevard.
An alignment plan has been prepared for the Barneson
Boulevard project. The plan clearly shows where the
corridor is and how the proposed road is likely to interact
with current roads and surroundings.
The Barneson Boulevard project was identified as part of the Darwin City
Centre Master Plan and is a key connection linking Tiger Brennan Drive to
Cavenagh Street. The community had significant input into the Darwin City
Centre Master Plan development, which helped shape projects such as
Barneson Boulevard.

THE PROPOSAL
Concepts and detailed designs will be made available to the
community in early 2016.
The new access route supports strategic transport planning to create a
better connected City Centre. Although it will be an important transport
route, it will have an urban street feel and support economic development.

Key points of the design will include:

cycle path
pedestrian space to encourage walking
tree planting and landscaping to create shade and visual character
a four-lane link for vehicles
As part of the project, the final stage of the duplication of Tiger Brennan
Drive, from Bennett Street to Dinah Beach Road, and the concept plans for
duplication of McMinn Street integrating with future land use and transport
route planning will be presented.
The Northern Territory Government and City of Darwin are seeking funding
from the Australian Government to construct Barneson Boulevard, and the
project is contingent on this funding.
