Report on the activities conducted and recognitions received by 7 Kerala Girls Battalion NCC, Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur during the period 01 June 2014 to 30 November 2014. 1. 05 June 2014 - Observed World Environment Day World Environment Day is held each year on June 5. It is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment. The cadets planted some trees in the premises of Sree Kerala Varma College to commemorate this day. Page 1 of 21 Page 2 of 21 Page 3 of 21 2. 23 July 2014 - Fund mobilization for philanthropy Cadets were given 200 stamps from the Children’s Welfare Society for selling. Each stamp was priced at ` 5.00. They successfully sold all the stamps and the proceeds were handed over to the Principal. Page 4 of 21 4. 15 August 2014 - Independence Day The cadets of 7 Kerala Girls Battalion NCC, Sree Kerala Varma College won the first prize in the Republic Day Parade competition conducted by the Thrissur Corporation on 15 August 2014. The march past was held at Thekkinkadu Maidan in the heart of the city. On the same day Independence Day celebrations were also held in Sree Kerala Varma College. The principal hoisted the tricolour and distributed sweets on the occasion. Page 5 of 21 Page 6 of 21 5. Combined Annual Training Camp - 05 Sep 2014 to 14 Sep 2014 The cadets of 7 Kerala Girls Battalion NCC, Sree Kerala Varma College performed exceptionally well and were the proud recipients of the Overall Championship Trophy. Some of the cadets received medals in their individual capacities as well. Trophies were also received for the following activities / events conducted during the camp: Line Area Competition - 1st Prize Group Dance Competition - 1st Prize Drill Competition - 2nd Prize Group Song Competition - 2nd Prize Page 7 of 21 6. 28 Oct 2014 - Sensitization of Traffic Rules A talk on the awareness of traffic rules and cyber crime was organized. A distinguished speaker, Mr. O A Babu, ASI Kerala Police Academy actively engaged the cadets by first talking about the causes of road accidents caused by carelessness and violation of rules. He talked about the increasing cause of accidents due to talking over the mobile phone while driving. He stressed on the importance of wearing seat belt not only for the driver but also for the other front seat passenger. He also talked about how youngsters do acrobatics with two wheelers thereby causing accidents leading to even loss of life. The talk was rendered very effective because it was accompanied by reallife videos. In the end, the cadets were invited to the dais to share their own personal experience. Page 8 of 21 Page 9 of 21 7. 29 Oct 2014 - Vigilance Awareness Among Youth A talk on the awareness of cyber crime was organized where the distinguished speaker was Sri Francis Pereira - SI from Cyber Cell, Kochi. He gave a lot of emphasis on vigilance and awareness among youth about corruption and various types of crimes, the latest being cyber crime. He showed an interesting powerpoint presentation which had clippings from day to day life which captured the attention of the cadets and drove home the point well. Page 10 of 21 Page 11 of 21 Page 12 of 21 8. 31 Oct 2014 - Run for Unity and Administering the Unity Pledge The, ‘Run for Unity’ was flagged off by the Principal to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas - the birth anniversary of the Iron man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The cadets participated in the Run for Unity from Sree Kerala Varma College to West Fort and back carrying placards with messages of unity written on them. Before the ‘Run for Unity’, the cadets were administered the Unity Pledge by the Principal of the college in front of an august gathering. Page 13 of 21 Page 14 of 21 Page 15 of 21 9. 31 Oct 2014 - Observance of Public Property Protection Day A talk on the protection of public property was organized. Adv. Prakash K. T gave an introductory speech and explained what is meant by public property. He subsequently introduced Adv. Sojan Job and handed over the dais to him. Adv. Job talked about the importance of safeguarding public property and how public property contributes to the wealth of the nation as a whole. Page 16 of 21 Page 17 of 21 10. 22 Nov 2014 - Visit to Association for Mentally Handicapped Adults (AMHA), Thrissur A visit to the Association for Mentally Handicapped Adults (AMHA) was organized for the cadets. AMHA is a home for these differently abled individuals and houses around 55 of them. A special bus was hired and the the NCC cadets were taken there. The cadets interacted with them distributed sweets to them and performed various cultural events like mimicry and monoacting. The cadets also sang songs for them. In turn, the inmates also showcased their abilities and also sang songs. They seemed to convey the message, “Know us for our ability, not our disability”. The cadets, in a a very concerned gesture had collected a substantial amount of money among themselves which was handed over to Dr P Bhanumathi, the founder of this noble institution. The primary aim of this visit was to make the cadets aware of the social realities that exist which will help them to discard ego, selfishness and other negative qualities and to be broad minded and serve for the society. Page 18 of 21 Page 19 of 21 Page 20 of 21 Page 21 of 21 Report on the activities conducted and recognitions received by 7 Kerala Girls Battalion NCC, Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur during the period 01 December 2014 to 26 January 2015. 1. 17 December 2014 - Inauguration of collection for Armed Forces Flag Day The cadets were given 60 Armed Forces Flag Day token flags and a hundi box for collection. The principal inaugurated the fund raiser and was the recipient of the first flag and made the first contribution in the hundi box. The cadets successfully sold all the 60 token flags worth `300.00. This amount, along with the collection in the hundi box was handed over the NCC Battalion. Page 1 of 9 Page 2 of 9 2. 20 January 2015 - Run Kerala Run The cadets very enthusiastically participated in the, “Run Kerala Run” event organized in connection with the National Games 2015. The principal of Sree Kerala Varma College flagged off the run. Page 3 of 9 Page 4 of 9 3. 26 January 2015 - Republic Day The cadets of Sree Kerala Varma College who represented the 7 Kerala Girls Bn. NCC, won the first prize in the Republic Day Ceremonial Parade held in the morning of 26 January 2015. The march past was held at Thekkinkadu Maidan in the heart of the city. Additionally, the same set of cadets again surged ahead to secure the first prize once again in the march past competition conducted by the Thrissur Corporation, amongst various institutions, in the afternoon of the same day. The principal of Sree Kerala Varma College, convened a meeting to congratulate the cadets of both the battalions [7 (K) Girls Bn. and 24 (K) Bn.] for their fantastic performance in the Republic Day functions and securing first position.
