How to get to Olds Aquatic Centre – Off QE Hwy - Turn off the Township Road 330/AB-27 – go west. Turn left at 1
set of lights. Access Parking via Olds College Campus Entrance A or D (before 9am) – due to another event going on
campus, they would like us to park in Lots D & DD…
Walk your bike & gear over to the Olds Aquatic Centre, west parking lot, with the bike racks – “Transition Area”.
*Transition Area is located west of the pool and will be open at 7:15AM. ONLY participants allowed in the transition
area!! Locate the Ridley’s Cycle Tent to have a quick inspection on your bike if needed. Be sure your tires are inflated
to close to maximum (it is labeled on the side of the tire) and that your brakes are functioning properly. Also be sure
your handlebars have plugs on the ends. Bike check is not mandatory BUT it is YOUR responsibility that your bike is in
safe working order for your safety/enjoyment and the safety of others. Cycling Helmets are mandatory.
Rack your bike (by the nose of your saddle) in any spot you choose (no assigned positions). Hint: select a middle
easier gear before you rack your bike. Please rack your bike alternating to other bikes to ensure we have enough
space for all of the bikes. Place a towel down (hint: BRIGHT folded towel) beside your bike near the front wheel to
mark your spot where you will have your gear placed. This will be YOUR spot for the duration of the race. (i.e. when
you return from the bike portion of the event, you will rack your bike at the same spot and know exactly where your
running gear is.) Place your gear for the race on the towel ready to be put on with ease (runners open, clothing 1/2
unzipped, number belt near cycling gear, etc). Cover with clear plastic if raining. Please do not leave bags in the
transition area. Clothing can be left in the change rooms of the pool.
NEW!! If you absolutely need to change out of your wet gear after the swim, you may leave some gear in the MEN”S
CHANGEROOM. Note: This area will not have volunteer control – so please keep your gear out of the pathways (put
in a locker – don’t lock up). Please REMOVE all your Wet gear, Towel, etc from the MEN’S CHANGEROOM when
you are changed and heading out to transition. No swim suits, towels, etc, is to be left behind!
“Startline Timing “ankle straps” with timing chips will be available from 7:30-8:30AM inside the Olds Aquatic Centre.
Body Marking will be indoors as well and will be from 7:30-8:30AM. (“Body Marking” is having your racer number put
on your arms and legs with a felt pen - be sure you know your number!) Please know your Heat Letter as well. It will be
put on your calf.
*****Mandatory Pre-Race Meeting will be outside near the FINISH area at 8:35AM.***** In case of Rain, we will
hold the meeting inside the Frank Grisdale Hall.
The transition area will “close” at the start of the race (9:00AM) but you may enter the transition area if you need to add
or remove something to your spot. Please wait for the “okay” from the transition marshals and yield to racers.
Race will start at 9:00AM - or after Pre-Race Meeting
Heat Letters will be “self-assigned” according to your own ESTIMATED 250m Swim Time.:
Over 12 m inutes – Group A

The SWIM is a continuous feed. Listen for your Heat Letter to be announced...Heat A (12+ min est. time) will start first.
There may be 2-3 waves of Heat A. Heat B may mix with the end of Heat A (and C may mix with the end of B and so
on). Please stand with those with the same heat letter as you. Try to find other swimmers with similar estimate 250m.
You will be given a swim cap on the pool deck if you need one. (You may wear your own favorite swim cap if you
wish.) A swim cap must be worn to make the lap counters job easier. Please wait for the swim coordinator to signal
when a swimmer exits and is available for you. When it is your time to go, walk past the timing mat and slip into the
pool - NO DIVING. Tell the lap counter your racer number before you enter the pool. You can leave your prescription
eyewear ON A GLASSES TABLE ON DECK. If you are a nervous swimmer and would like to use the walls, wait until
a side lane (lanes 1 or 5) becomes available. Passing in the lane is permitted but please pass with caution. Pass at the
walls if you can. Touch the person’s feet lightly while swimming if you would like to pass. They should stop at the wall
to let you go in front of them. If your feet are getting touched, please let the person pass on your left or go in front of
you at the wall.
You must touch the wall with at least ONE hand or ONE foot to complete one length. The swim is 275 meters...or 11
lengths....or 5.5 laps. Any stroke is permitted - even dog paddle! Please avoid backstroke as this stroke gets a bit
dangerous with 2-3 others in your lane. You are allowed to take a break at the wall but move to one side of the lane to
allow others to continue. There is no cut-off time for the swim but please keep your breaks at the wall short. There will
a lap counter for each lane - when you see a flutterboard dunked down in front of you, you will have 25m to go! Once
your 275m swim is complete, Exit the pool AT THE SHALLOW END and WALK along the pool away from the start mat
(towards the change rooms) , past the spectator windows towards the exit at the far end of the pool. Follow the
instructions from the volunteers to the exit of the building to the transition area. You may run once you are out of the
pool area.
There will be port-a-podis in the transition area in case you need to use them. There will be no change tents - please
add on clothes at your transition spot if you need to. IF you need to change, you may leave some supplies in the
MEN’S CHANGEROOM (as there are no men in the race!) No gear is to be left after you are changed! No nudity in
the transition area please. :-0.
2 BIG Transition Rules: Chin Strap of helmet MUST be done up Before you touch your bike and No Bike riding
allowed until you are at the Mount Area on the road. A volunteer will tell you when to mount your bike. Please look
forward (rather than down) when starting to ride. There may be a few gals mounting their bikes around you, so be
cautious!
Please have your number bib on your Back on the BIKE portion. Use a race number belt or elastic band for #.
Bike: Roadway is open to traffic so please ride with caution and listen to the volunteers. No IPOD’s, MP3’s or any
headset music device allowed. If you are caught wearing one, we will disqualify you.
The Tri-Diva Tri bike route will be an OUT-AND –BACK – 5.5 km south, then return to be 11km total – use caution at
turn-around. Roadway is OPEN and traffic may not stop for Bike Riders.
Our bike sponsor, Ridley’s Cycle will be on hand for mechanical support but please be patient if you do run into bike
trouble. Try to stop near a volunteer, get off your bike and wait on the far right of the road and wave to the Ridley’s
vehicle when they drive by. You may finish the bike portion walking in with your bike if your bike is no longer “rideable”.
Some bike riding rules: Please do not cross the center line of the road and stay as far right on the road as you can
without riding on the grass or gravel. No riding beside or behind another cyclist. That is called “Drafting”. Allow 3
bike lengths or more between riders. You have 15 seconds to pass someone - please pass on the left hand side and
call out to the person that you are passing them. (Shoulder check first!) Tell them an encouraging word when you pass
and smile! If you are riding too far on the left of the road and someone cannot pass you, is called “Blocking”. If the bike
officials catch you Drafting or Blocking you will receive a warning.
When you approach the Dismount Area, slow down gradually and prepare to remove your foot from the pedal. Be sure
you know which side you dismount so that the foot is not in the pedal.
Walk/run your bike into transition and find your spot. Rack your bike at your same spot as you left and THEN Unclip
your Helmet Chin Strap and Remove Helmet. Put on running gear and head NORTH out to the run (opposite end of
transition of the bike ) You will cross a timing mat to begin the 2.5K run. Move your racer number bib to THE FRONT.
The run will be well marked. There is one water station at around 1K that you will pass by again on the way back.
When you approach the finish, wear a big smile as you are on your way to completing a triathlon! Be sure we can see
your racer number (in front). Our announcer will announce your name. If you would like to have your child(ren) run into
the finish with you, please be aware of other finishers and run in with caution (we don’t want a child to get injured in the
last 50m!) There will be volunteers to remove your timing chip. Please do not go home with it on! Finisher food and
beverages will be available for you at the finish.
Results will be posted as soon as they are processed and will go live within a few hours. www.startlinetiming.com
