Our Mission - Transgender National Alliance
Our Mission: The Transgender National Alliance is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization that seeks to recognize, celebrate, and employ the strength in the great diversity within the transgender community while providing funding, outreach, education and support for the issues affecting our community and our allies. Thank you for your attention and support. We are the Transgender National Alliance, TNA, we exist to improve the lives of the transgender community and our allies nationwide while based out of Houston, Texas. The fundamental need for most transgender people is financial. The cost of transition can be up to $100,000. And unfortunately, the majority of transgender people lose their employment, their homes and their families when they begin the courageous journey. We strive to fund and support some of the life changing needs, including name and gender marker changes, which allow a transgender person to apply for jobs, travel and enter into businesses without the risk of being outed and discriminated against. Transgender workers report unemployment at twice the rate of the population as a whole. Another important and expensive need for our community is surgical care, unfortunately much of a transgender persons care is not covered by insurance and the physical dysphoria that a transgender person suffers because their body doesn’t match their mind, often creates suicidal ideation, with 41% of transgender people attempting suicide. When cared for and provided these life saving opportunities, transgender people can live happy, healthy and productive lives. We are a new organization with a board of 7 people, we began immediately by giving back to the community. Since January 2015, we hosted 1 fundraising event during PRIDE Houston and have sponsored 5 people for name and gender marker filings with fees of $300 per person, we have committed to supporting 1 trans man for a top surgery with costs of $2500, we have hosted a community event that was sponsored in part by St. Joseph’s hospital and with 30 attendees we raffled off 2 name and gender marker changes, fees of $300 each, we educated attendees on voice lessons, healthy lifestyles, and surgery options, sponsored education and outreach for the H.E.R.O, the Mental Health Walk and are excited to announce our first annual TNA Gala-Petite METRO GLAM event on th December 11 honoring TransTech Social founder and star of “HerStory” Angelica Ross with a live performance by legendary performer Durga McBroom- Hudson of Pink Floyd and “Flashdance” fame! TNA has ongoing relationships educating through college wide and small group presentations with Lone Star College, South Texas College Of Law, Prairie View A & M, Santa Clara University School Of Law, Dow Chemical, Texas Women’s University and several local businesses and schools. Our goals are to provide a positive image of transgender people and their allies, financial support for medical needs, positive educational services to schools, media, churches, or any organization seeking to learn more about the transgender community. We also proved a nonpartisan forum for local, state, and federal candidates as well as elected officials to interact on a personal level with members of our community and scholarship funds to people regardless of transgender status. Please support our cause with the following goals in 2016: 1 MTF transgender woman SRS “bottom” surgery with a cost of $25,000, 2 “top” surgeries for a FTM transgender man with a cost of $8,000 each. Provide 30 transgender people with name and gender marker changes with a cost of $300 each for a total of $9,000. You can’t possibly imagine how life changing this donation will mean to these lives and the people who love them. We have begun all of our paperwork to receive our own 501c3, and at this time we are working with our sister organization the Clinic Access Support Network. They have generously partnered with us to allow us to receive and give with all of the benefits of a non-profit status.
