WHAT IS MATCH RACING?
A match race can be described as a duel between two identically matched
boats racing head-to-head with a winner and a loser. Each competitor uses
tactics and the racing rules with the objective of crossing the finish line
before her opponent. The America’s Cup is in a match race format.
campaigns
OLYMPIC CAMPAIGN
This campaign will include three of the team members, Anna, Molly, and Debbie with the goal of
winning the Olympic Gold Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The boat sailed for the
Olympic Sailing Regatta is the Elliott 6m, a boat designed specifically for three people.
WOMEN’S MATCH RACE TOUR
This campaign will include all members of the team with rotations
depending on the type of boat designated for the event. The boats vary
in crew from three to five crew, depending on the country in which the
competition is held. The ultimate goal of this campaign is to rise to the
top of the ISAF World Rankings and win the World Championship.
OPEN MATCH RACE TOUR
This campaign includes all members of the team and additional crew when needed. The goal is
to climb through the open world rankings and participate on a regular basis in the World Match
Racing Tour. The importance of competing on this tour is that it is a deeper field of competition
and men currently hold the top rankings.
