First State Bank Conference Center – April 12, 2014
This is the major fund raiser for the Cooke County 4-H Program. Except for
an occasional donation, or Paper Clover grant, all funds that are used to
support the 4-H program here in Cooke County must be earned each
year.
That includes:
 Over $1,000.00 in district contest fees, every contest that is entered
there is a $10.00 fee per child.
 State 4-H Round-up registration fees, we try to cover these each year,
an extra bake sale goes to help pay for our participants rooms and
food.
 Out of county Leadership opportunities, Teen Retreat, D-4 Leadership
Lab, and this year Texas 4-H Congress, the 4-H fund always helps with
some of the expenses.
 County 4-H Camp, it usually takes $800.00 to cover the ‘extras’ at
camp, including but not limited to snacks twice a day, the cost of
workshop supplies, and other things that make camp so nice and
memorable for so many.
To make this a successful event Every Club needs to participate!!

TEXAS 4-H CONGRESS IS AROUND THE CORNER! ARE YOU READY???
LOBBYIST AND PRESS CORP APPLICATION OPENING APRIL 1ST!
Toby Lepley, [email protected]
Texas 4-H members between the ages of 15 and 18 at the time of the event are eligible to participate in this
mock legislative session held in Austin at the State Capitol. Information has just been released to District and
County 4-H Offices and will be released from your County Office shortly.
From April 1st to April 30th those 4-H members who are interested in serving as a Lobbyist or Press Corp
member need to fill out the application on-line through the 4-H CONNECT system.
Who are the Lobbyist: The Lobbyist group is designed for 4-H members who have attended Texas 4-H Congress
in the past. The responsibility of the Lobbyist group is to identify certain bills and then lobby members of the
House and Senate to either pass or defeat the bill. Lobbyist should be knowledgeable about Texas 4-H Congress
and the schedule that it follows. Lobbyist members should be prepared to and have the ability to approach
other 4-H members and persuade House and Senate members for support.
What does the Press Corp do: The Texas 4-H Congress Press Corps play an extremely important part in the
success of the event. Press Corps members can be either first time or returning 4-H members to 4-H Congress.
Individuals applying for Press Corps should have strong skills in writing, word processing, interviewing,
photography, and focused on making deadlines. The press corps is responsible for the publishing of a daily
newspaper and helping maintaining a web page/electronic communication. Press Corps members should be
aware that sometimes they may not be able to attend certain events because of print deadlines.
