ISSUE 6
Dear Readers,
I don't know about you all but I love Spring (+Autumn) It's a season that's not too
hot nor too cold. It's just perfect. It's also one of the best season to get married in!
Not only for the weather but you have many options to do either a cool wedding or
warm wedding and you won't be judged! We have been approached by many brides
asking us to show Spring colours and what different thing they can do at their
wedding.
I am sure most of us are guilty of planning our wedding since we were young, and
rightfully so. It's the only day that everything will be about you! Even the most
shyest person looks forward to their wedding, because it's the day you can express
your feelings without being judged.
In our Spring Issue 2016 we bring you the top 10 beauty products to have with
you on your big day, the beauty of garments from India from the Aashini + Co
Event, another great DIY Centerpiece to have, themed wedding looks and much
more. We work with the best team in the industry and together we get what will be
the best for our readers! We like to give quality over quantity. If you ever need any
personal help do not hesitate to contact us, we are always here to help our brides and
make sure they have the wedding they have dreamt of.
I will leave you with this beautiful quote :
“A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an
imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” -Dave Meurer

What has been your biggest inspiration?
Ever since I can remember I've loved everything wedding related (that's why I love
writing for YPBD), as well as anything that's sweet. So you put 2 and 2 together to
form Sugar Cane Treats! I take inspiration from famous chefs and designers and
incorporate ideas into my desserts and styling! I am a sucker for Masterchef!
It started as a hobby; making desserts for family and friends after experimenting on
them. People had told me to start something for a very long time, and after I had my
baby girl (who has just turned 2), my family, particularly my husband gave me that
push and et voila, here I am! I can't thank them enough for their endless support
and help!
What is you price range?
Depends on the number of guests but generally
anything from £100+ and typically will need at
least 4 weeks notice! We are nothing short of
perfection!
I like to take this opportunity to thank all my
followers on Instagram and Facebook, my family
and my friends for all their support.
If you haven’t already starting following Sugar Can Treats, what are you waiting
for?! They have lots for exciting things to come and who doesn’t want decilious
treats on their timeline!!

1
Wash off the lable on the glass bottle so it’s clean. Leave any

Spray the glue on top of the bottle and stick the end of the rope
to it. Let the rope stick for 30 secs before starting to wrap it
3
Take your time while wraping the rope, making sure the rope
doesn’t overlap or leave any gaps where you can see the bottle.

DIETIAN CORNER
The general population is now increasingly taking on the responsibility to improve
their own health. The National Travel Survey (2014) reported that 5.1 million people
in Great Britain cycle 3 or more times a week and 43% of the population own or
have access to a bike regularly. With an increasingly health conscious nation, selfmonitoring is an integral part of maintaining an optimum level of fitness and health.
Therefore it is important to understand what we should be monitoring and how to
understand the results.
WEIGHT: Weight is expressed in
kilograms (kg). Many of us still work in the
old measurements of stones and pounds.
1 stone is equivalent to 6.35kg and 14lb.
Therefore by taking your weight in stone and
multiplying it by 6.35kg, will give you your
weight in kilograms.
BMI:
This stands for Body Mass Index
which looks to classify a person’s weight in
relation to their height.
BMI can be calculated by dividing your weight
(in kg) over the square of your height in
metres (m).
It is commonly used for adults to classify if
they are underweight, overweight or obese.
A healthy BMI range is defined as between
18.5kg/m2 - 25kg/m2. A BMI between 2530kg/m2 is interpreted as overweight and
one at 30kg/m2 or above is obese.
BMI is often used to determine a person’s
current nutritional status and predict
possible health outcomes and risks. However,
BMI can be a crude measure especially
for people who have a lot of muscle mass
(athletes, weight trainers). As muscle is
denser then fat it can mean that a person
with a healthy weight falls into the obese BMI
category. Therefore it is important that all
factors such as diet, exercise, lifestyle etc. are
considered when assessing a person’s weight.
useful to monitor for people who are actively
working to lose excess weight and gain muscle
mass.
Hydration levels:
Keeping
hydrated is important for vital body functions
and helps keep you mentally alert.
Signs of dehydration to look out for include dry
Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR):
mouth, fatigue, light headedness, headaches,
WHR is simply the ratio of the circumference
dry skin and inability to focus mentally. Thirst
of your waist in relation to the circumference
is not always a reliable indicator of hydration

for women and > 1.0 for men is considered high
and can be interpreted as excess fat stores
around your abdomen. This can be an indicator
of health risks such as diabetes.
% Body Fat:
This looks at a person’s
body composition and indicates what % of that
is fat.
Women between 18-40 years old should be
within the ideal range of 14-31% and for Men
14-25%. Those of athletic build will aim to have
a lower body fat % then the ideal range.
% Body fat can be determined through use of
body composition scales however these can
give variable and unreliable readings. Skin
fold callipers are another method but this is
open to individual error. Overall % body fat
is a prediction as no current method has a
guaranteed level of 100% accuracy. It can be a
Monitor dietary intake:
Keeping a food diary or using mobile apps is
a great way to reflect on your eating habits.
MyFitnessPal has become increasingly popular
as it helps highlight eating patterns and
familiarise the user with calorie contents of
foods. It also helps track the calories you burn
when exercising. With app technology being
so advanced it has never been easier to selfmonitor our food intake or how many calories
we burn, on the go. However focussing on calorie
counting can be detrimental and lead to people
restricting their food intake unnecessarily.
In some cases it can also promote unhealthy
eating behaviours and relationships with food.
Food is made up of many components not
just calories, such as protein, fat, vitamins and
minerals. Some of these components have
different effects on our appetite and health in
the long run. Therefore it is important to focus
on foods as a whole and not just on calorie
content alone.
Bowel habits:
What is on your plate:
Have a look at your plate at meal times. What
do you see? Identify which food is the biggest
portion on your plate. It is common to see that
starchy foods such as rice, pasta and potatoes
make up the biggest portion on the plate. To
get a well-balanced meal keep starchy foods to
a quarter of your plate only. A balanced plate
will be very colourful and should be half full
of components from your fruit and vegetable
group. (see eatwell plate model as a guide to
Normal bowel
the 5 major food groups)
movements vary greatly between individuals.
This can be anywhere between going to the
toilet 3 times a day to 3 times a week. This
variation is caused by many factors such as
exercise, diet, medication, hydration and stress.
Therefore any significant changes to diet and
lifestyle can also affect how often you go to the
loo. It is useful to know what ‘normal’ is for you.
If any sudden changes in bowel habits do occur
without any significant reason (i.e. no change to
diet or lifestyle etc.) then this should be further
looked at by your GP.

Aashni & Co
Wedding Show
The iconic The Dorchester, London, welcomed South Asian
fashion royalty on Sunday 10th January as the second, annual
Aashni + Co Wedding Show in association with Mustang
Productions presented bridal and couture collections by the
subcontinent’s most coveted designers.
Aashni + Co Wedding Show 2016 was produced by Mustang Productions, renowned
for their creation of truly exceptional events and fashion shows. The event also
featured floral styling by Zita Elze, who recreated a breathtaking, enchanted
garden installation in The Dorchester’s iconic Gold Room that wowed visitors,
creating a standalone focal point in itself.
In attendance were fashion luminaries including Anamika Khanna, Anju Modi,
Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, Varun Bahl, Akanksha Gajria, Ridhima Bhasin, Gaurav
Gupta, Masaba, Rimple Narula, Samant Chauhan, Sonali Gupta and Paras Modi
of SVA. Visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity of meeting the attending
fashion talents. Additionally, Aashni + Co Wedding Show welcomed lauded
Pakistani designer, Faraz Manan, presented by Hello! Pakistan alongside his
Indian contemporaries as well as jewellery and accessory collections by Amrapali
and Amishi London.
Aashni + Co Wedding Show was conceptualised and presented by one of the UK’s
leading Indian fashion influencers and tastemakers, Aashni Anshul Doshi (Shah),
Founder and Creative Director of Aashni + Co, a high fashion, Indian concept store
located in Notting Hill, London. Speaking about the second, annual event Aashni
said, “The event has been a tremendous success. We
were conscious that we needed to surpass the high
benchmark we established with the event in its debut
year, 2015. I feel we’ve achieved that based on the
response from the designers and visitors here today
unanimously. We’ve brought a studied curation of
luxe, South Asian couture and bridal wear to the UK’s
doorstep, meaning brides and grooms to be and followers
of Indian high fashion have been able to meet the
designers themselves and shop entire bridal trousseaus
or one-off pieces against a fittingly couture backdrop.”
Sabyasachi said, “Aashni’s show is
terrific. She always manages to get an
avalanche of people in. It was exhausting
but it was very well organised and I think
she has become the most important
interface between Indian designers and
NRI brides who don’t normally get to
meet the designers face to face.”
Anju Modi said “What a fabulous
platform to show wedding clothes.
Aashni has done a fantastic job and it’s
well organised with lovely girls coming in
to try on our clothes and making me feel
so proud.”
Aashni Anshul Doshi (Shah), Founder
and Creative Director of Aashni +
Co said, “It’s been a wonderful evening
with an amazing response to Manish’s
new collection, as well as to the news of
his ambassadorship for The British Asian
Trust. We are proud of our relationship
with Manish and are so delighted to be
presenting his latest, festive collection
in-store, as well as sharing the news of
his involvement with an extremely noble
cause.”
About Aashni + Co
Founded in autumn of 2012, Aashni + Co pioneers the most desirable edit in Indian
high fashion. A beautiful concept store in the heart of London’s Notting Hill with
ecommerce site, Aashni + Co has been established with the purpose of providing
access to visionary designers of India for the residents of United Kingdom. Designers
include Anamika Khanna, Anushree Reddy, Arpita Mehta, Manish Malhotra,
Sabyasachi, Varun Bahl and like. Aashni + Co is set over two floors with haute
couture, ready-to-wear collections, jewellery and accessories.

Items a Bride Should Carry on Her Big Day
It’s come to my attention that not every bride is fully aware of the items
she may need to have on her on her big day, and so I’ve written this to
give you a little insight into a few items that I think would be useful for
you to consider carrying with you. Just note that this list is not in any
particular of importance!
1.Compact Mirror
2. Blotting Sheets -
that many brides often overlook because
they assume others will tell them how
they look – however, what you consider
to look good may be completely
different to someone else. It would be a
shame to go through pictures once the
big day is over and wish you had seen
those pesky strands of hair poking out
your dupatta or maybe you wish that
you had touched up on the lip colour
that had started fading away. In other
words, it is always better to be safe
than sorry! After all, it’s your big day.
Blotting
sheets
are
such
underrated items; they are
an absolutely great way to
absorb excess oils/moisture
that the skin produces without
disturbing the makeup. They are
lightweight, making them more
convenient and easy to carry,
and they are super effective in
keeping the oil at bay without
adding on additional makeup.
Neutrogena Deep Clean
Carrying a mirror with you is something Shine Control
*A top tip I would advise if for you
to purchase a blot powder that has
a mirror attached to it, the MAC blot
powder has a mirror attached – not
only does this reduce space for
you in your handbag, but it will
also be one less item you’ll
have to go out and purchase!
ITEMS A BRIDE SHOULD CARRY ON HER BIG DAY
3. Eyelash glue – Duo Eyelash
4. Blotting Powder – Mac Blot
It is always important to keep eyelash
glue with you, you can never be too sure
if your eyelashes will stay on throughout
the entire function. I would recommend
getting the dark-tone glue because it
cuts the waiting around time that would
happen if it were one that dries clear!
Although you may have blotting sheets,
it’s always handy to have a blotting
powder on you too. Not only is blotting
powder useful for brides with oily skin,
but it also acts as a way to cover up
any tear streaks down your cheeks!
Adhesive (Dark Tone)
5. Brush – Real Techniques
Setting Brush
Powder Pressed/ Rimmel Stay
Matte Powder
6. Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner
– Rimmel Scandal’Eyes
When it comes to keeping Waterproof Kohl Liner (Black)
a cosmetic brush with you,
Having a waterproof pencil eyeliner with
having something like the Real
you is such a handy way to touch up on
Techniques setting brush seems your makeup if things have started to
most ideal. It’s small enough separate on your waterline. It’ll be ideal
to not take up to much space, for you to carry a waterproof eyeliner
and dense enough to effectively just so it doesn’t smudge around the
cover the whole face or certain eyes if there are any waterworks!
areas of the face i.e. the T zone.
ITEMS A BRIDE SHOULD CARRY ON HER BIG DAY
7. Lipliner
8. Mints - Tic Tacs
In my opinion, I would recommend for
you to carry a lip liner with you that best
matches the shade of your lipstick on the
day. Of course, to do this, it means you
should ideally already know the colour
you’d like to wear on your lips on the big
day! Keeping a lipliner not only ensures
that there’ll be precision when you use it,
but it also allows for you to get the right
shape/outline you want your lips to be
without smudging the entire mouth area.
It’s been proven that mint not only refreshes you,
but it can also act as a calming agent to keep
your nerves cool. Tic Tacs would be the
best form of mints to carry, they’re
compact enough to carry and small
enough to pop in your mouth without
looking like you have anything in there!
The next few items are not makeuprelated products, nonetheless, they’re a
few things I would definitely suggest you
to consider keeping on you.
9. Sharpener
If you go ahead with the idea of keeping
a lipliner and eyeliner on you, then
having a small cosmetics sharpener
will be good just for safe measures.
If you’re lucky enough, you may have
a lipliner or eyeliner that has a mini
sharpener already attached to its lid!
10. Tissue – In abundance!
Every wedding, more often than not, ends with
plenty of tears – and somehow there always
seems to be a shortage of tissue right
when you need it most! So carrying
some with you will keep you prepared
and ready for the end of the day!

Londoner added: “It’s great to have East
Shopping Centre here on Green Street, which
has long been a business hub for the vibrant
Asian community in this area. It’s the perfect
place for Europe’s first Asian shopping centre
and it has attracted over a million people to
the area in just its first year. I’ve enjoyed being
part of the anniversary celebrations today,
performing my brand new single Jaan Atki
and meeting so many of my fans from the area.
Other activities throughout the day
included renowned Bollywood Dance
Company Absolute Bollywood teaching
Bollywood dance to customers, a live
make-up tutorial by the talented Lubna
Rafiq Academy and music from DJ Dhruv.
Children were kept busy and entertained
with face painting, popcorn and a selfie
zone installed in a traditional Indian tuk
tuk by Bollywood Booths. Additional
guests included Desi Rascals star Feryal
Khan and star of hit YouTube comedy
series Cornershop, Islah Abdur Rahman.
Since officially launching in March
2015, East has welcomed approximately
1.4 million visitors, significantly
contributing
to
the
economic
growth of East London’s iconic
Green Street, and making the mall
a benchmark shopping destination
for the British Asian community.
East has also provided opportunities
to small and local businesses, had a
positive impact on the community
by creating jobs and providing a safe,
attractive environment for families
and friends to shop and spend time.
From chic couture and everyday fashions
to specialist modest-wear shops and bridal
couture, there is something for everyone
and every budget at East Shopping
Centre. Established high-end couture
brands such as Anjalee & Arjun Kapoor
to designer brands like Raishma, Aab and
Bidaai, join independent retailers like
Zarkan of London and Jilbabs ‘R’ Us to
provide the latest in South Asian fashion.
East has also become a prime
wedding
for
destination
shoppers, with eight specialist
outlets specifically servicing
brides and grooms or those
attending parties and events.
The vibrant centre is anchored
by The Souk, which is designed
to mirror bustling eastern
marketplaces, with its colourful
lighting and beautifully finished
and
walls
gold-rendered
smaller shops retailing costume
jewellery, perfume and clothes.
