THE FIRST ENCOUNTER
Jay and I met
at a restaurant through friends. It really was love at first
sight for me. From that moment on, we were inseparable.
For our first official date, Jay invited me on a weekend
fishing trip. He remembers saying “There’s no way this
girl will say yes to this.” I think when I said “yes,” that was
love! We got engaged on a sailing trip in the British Virgin
Islands. I was so surprised that I didn’t believe it was real.
He was on his knees in the sand with the tide coming in
for almost five minutes!
IN PREPARATION
We immediately knew
that we wanted to get married somewhere outdoors that
highlighted Southern Louisiana’s natural beauty. The
days leading up to our wedding were hilariously chaotic.
The entire time, Jay and I felt so incredibly lucky. All of
our vendors, family and friends were doing everything
in their power to make last minute adjustments. The last
minute changes were made due to the mud and rain, and
it made everything a surprise for me!
THE BIG DAY A lot of wedding guests travelled
in from California. It was such a unique experience for
them to be able to roll up their pants, kick off their heels
and dance in the mud on the bayou! Our guests from New
Orleans had the foresight to come in shrimp boots, the
groom included! One of my favorite moments from the
reception was when I got stuck in the mud. Jay pulled me
out, threw me over his shoulder and had my maid of honor take off my shoes! It was truly a great way to introduce
our out-of-town guests to the New Orleans spirit. Rain or
shine, we know how to have a good time!
THE RETREAT We really wanted to have time
to relax and enjoy being married in our home, so we
decided to plan our honeymoon for a few months after
the wedding. We did tell all our friends and family that
we were leaving that week, so that we could just enjoy
time with each other! It was nice to hide away and have
nothing to do except enjoy each other's company for a
week. We sailed the Greek islands this past Spring for
our actual honeymoon.
