Life#im$ o% &e'(ie) JULIE SCHWARTZBERG AND ERIC FORMAN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA Photographer Timwill Photography event planner Loluma NOVEMBER 17, 2013 THE FIRST ENCOUNTER Our fathers used to work together at a cancer research center outside Los Angeles, and after decades of knowing each other, they re-introduced us when Eric moved to New York City. Our first "date" was more of a business meeting. At the request of my dad, we met at one of New York's oldest bars to work on Eric's resume. The flow of conversation was so natural, we quickly discovered many shared passions. It was as if we had known each other for a lifetime. We didn't talk much about the resume and after many hours, we decided the bond was too strong between us not to start dating. IN PREPARATION Destination weddings are much easier when you have internet, an organized bride, spreadsheets and a great team of planners. There are a million decisions to make for a wedding weekend and we did tons of research to narrow it all down. We focused on the things that were most important, and trusted in our wedding planners completely. We knew that once we conveyed our image of the perfect wedding, they would make it happen. THE BIG DAY The big day was a flawless execution of our lifelong vision of the perfect wedding. Once it is actually happening, you get caught up in the splendor of it all. So what if it rained and a bunch of things had to be changed at the last minute! All that mattered was that this monumental day in our lives finally arrived. We marveled at how lucky we were to be surrounded by so many beloved guests, in a beautiful setting and saying “I do” to our soul mate. THE RETREAT We went to Japan for our honeymoon and hired a Japan-based travel company to organize the trip, while focusing on history, food and landscape. Our activities included roaming the markets of Tokyo and Kyoto, staying at Ryokans with private natural baths, eating black eggs cooked by volcanic steam on the side of a mountain, visiting a palace made of gold, climbing Mt. Fuji and drinking Sake produced by members of a 300 year old shrine. Not a traditional honeymoon, but it felt perfect for us. s o u t h e r n b r i d e . c o m 43 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Photographer Timwill Photography, timwill.com event planner & florist Loluma, loluma.com ceremony & reception site Runnymede Plantation, eventsatrunnymede.com caterer Cru Catering, crucatering.com wedding cake Delicious Desserts, verydeliciousdesserts.com Invitations Studio R Design, studio-r-design.com Wedding Gown Amsale, Saks Fifth Avenue Bridal NYC, saksfifthavenue.com transportation Lowcountry Valet, lowcountryvalet.com lighting CC Lighting, 843-810-2913 Décor/Rentals Snyder Events, snyderevents.com entertainment Classical Charleston, classicalcharleston.com and The Dickens, samhillbands.com/bands/dickens/index.shtml honeymoon location Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, mandarinoriental.com/Tokyo 44 I
