Bears, as we all know, tend to live on their own – but Nedvěd and Mishka
have decided to live together. Nedvěd is a burly, old grouch; Mishka is still
a cub. But these bears enjoy more than just hibernating – they also like
coming up with schemes to get tasty treats. And so one day they set out to
scare hikers so they can take their picnic baskets and backpacks; another
day they pretend to be rare pandas; they even empty out a chicken coop on
the pretext of protecting mankind from bad cholesterol; finally they run
an election campaign so people will pamper them and offer them treats.
However, when the goods run out, they decide to sell themselves through
an ad as two cute and playful bears. Their grandiose plans do not always
work out the way they expect. When they realize that they hibernate
through Christmas every year, they decide to celebrate the holiday in June.
That way through winter they can just sleep and sleep.
One day in the auto factory a gorgeous Mercedes enters the world and
immediately takes to the roads. On her tour through France she meets
a Laurin Klement, which wins her heart through some thrilling races. The
Daimler family, the Renaults with their shiny cylinders, kind old Uncle
Opel, sporty Aunt Bugatti, and even Lord Rolls-Royce himself attend
their magnificent wedding… Soon afterwards a little red car, Toot, comes
into the world. And it’s not long before this fearless automobile sets out
for high – octane adventures! With beautiful illustrations by Eva Šedivá,
internationally awarded author.

Bedtime stories are mostly told to children by their mothers; however, they usually
have the most work to do at night. So fathers should step in and help. Father Šíma
would like to read the bedtime stories, but the kids prefer the stories that their
mother tells them: the ones about the seemingly ordinary things around us. And
telling stories like that is not as easy as you might think, father Šíma really struggles
with bedtime stories! Will he ever manage to pull off this tricky task? Well, the title of
this phenomenal book by Zdeněk Svěrák gives a hint.

“I read through these books in one go. Even my mom,
who’s 66 years old, loved the book. She told me: I didn’t

“I’d like to congratulate the author on such a readable

Hanka, Sváťa and Rafan live together in Cozy House, which has never ever
been as cozy as the name implies. Children there labor all day for just a bit
of gruel and old bread, a little like in Oliver Twist’s orphanage. One day after
a storm when the children are collecting washed up shells and amber on
the beach, Hanka finds a great ring in the sand… At that exact moment
the mysterious stranger Vron receives a signal from somewhere in Europe
that sends him on a quest to find the one who has put on the ring. It leads
him to Cozy House, where he recognizes the extraordinary aura around the
children and leads them to the Island of Choice. There the children discover
that they have a seventh sense and they begin to study in Santarena:
a world of magic that they never believed to exist!

Radek Malý, one of the most respected young Czech poets, has teamed
up with the award – winning illustrator Pavel Čech to create a moving,
dreamlike book of children’s poetry about autumn. Evoking the gentle
breeze of autumn and the subtle dance of falling leaves, the book cannot
fail to charm readers of any age. Radek Malý’s poems are both playful and
somber, merry and nostalgic, and, above all, highly touching and original.
A graphic novel composed of nine stories without words, presents unusual
protagonists: old men. One of them is still as wild as an urchin kid, even
at his age, going around with his sling; another poses on trams as the
Lord Almighty; yet another lives in the past – at the time of transports
to concentration camps, while another pretends to be an Indian warrior.
In this homage to the old age and to all grandfathers of the world, Pavel
Čech demonstrates his highly poetic imagination; his drawings are elegant
and slightly melancholic; his stories are reminiscent of glorious old days
of knighthood and true adventures. While creating worlds beyond the
realm of the everyday experience, the author always spices them up with
endless wit and humor. This book was written and illustrated as a tribute to
grandfathers past, present, and future.

A unique, timeless publication. Published in CZ in 2008, the first version
of the book originated for Albatros publishing house as early as in 1968
(although the book did not see the light due to Fuka’s emigration and the
Soviet invasion).
The city, which never sleeps. The Big Apple. The home of jazz. Metropolis
of the world. The most American and at the same time the least American
city. All this – and much more – is New York. To depict it in a single
book seems to be impossible – but Fuka’s illustrations, along with the
accompanying texts, demonstrate unwonted ability to give a true picture
of everyday American reality. On a single page the authors express almost
as much as a voluminous novel.

Author: Irena Obermannová
Author: Jaroslav Žák
The spellbinding book of a great love affair. Is it Havel or not? How
could it be Havel? How could it not be? Immediately journalists
began to search obsessively and fanatically for clues that would
prove that Obermannová’s memoir was about the legendary Czech
revolutionary and the nation’s first president after Communism.
The author precisely captures the atrocious freak show of the Bolshevik putsch, the horrific yet ridiculous carnival, the absurd
swarms that accompanied the revolution. Nevertheless, he doesn’t shy away from elegant jokes and humor. An entertaining and
terrifying social grotesque that belongs to the ranks of the most fascinating examples of the genre – Hašek’s Good Soldier Švejk
and Škvorecký’s Cowards. A New Day’s Dawn, the continuation of the book The End of Old Times describes with appropriate
sarcasm the time when morning breaks after the intoxicating night of revolution, with its accompanying hangover.
