EVMWD Letter - REV - Canyon Lake Facts
October 2015 Attention Canyon Lake Property Owner: You recently received a mailer from the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (CLPOA) that made a number of claims, all of which were misleading. What was mailed was a “hit piece” designed to misinform and distract. Allow us to set the record straight. Canyon Lake residents currently pay $303 per year for EXCLUSIVE recreational use of the Canyon Lake Reservoir. Per the negotiated terms of the lease, monthly fees per homeowner are set to increase nominally over the next few years. By the time the lease expires in 2022, monthly fees increase to only $32 per month per homeowner. Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District has a history of negotiating in good faith with the CLPOA on future lease terms. But instead of coming to the table in the interest of Canyon Lake residents, the CLPOA has chosen costly litigation. Even worse, they are misrepresenting you and wasting your money on confusing mailers meant only to scare you. The lease deal in place is fair, and was freely negotiated by all parties. It allows for exclusive recreational use of a scenic lake that is actually a drinking water reservoir. It is time for the CLPOA to stop the distractions. CLPOA’s Numbers Change EVMWD’s Numbers Stay the Same CLPOA’S APRIL 23 PRESS RELEASE: CLPOA claims total lease amount is $833 million CLPOA’S OCTOBER DIRECT MAILER: CLPOA now claims lease amount is only $13.8 million !"#$ %&'(%!%)*+,!-"*,.%%!)* %/!$('(!- EVMWD’S ORIGINAL OFFER TO CLPOA: EVMWD has consistently presented the same lease amount as shown in the original offer above, made available to residents at the March 2015 EVMWD Board Meeting.
