PROSPECTUS 2015/16 EDUCATING OUR INDUSTRY WORLDWIDE 2 GAI PROSPECTUS 2015/16 PROSPECTUS CONTENTS WELCOME INTRODUCTION 02 WELCOME DEVELOP YOUR PEOPLE AND YOUR COMPANY 03 GAI EDUCATION HUB A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN EDUCATION PORTFOLIO Hello and welcome to our 2015/16 academic year which brings a new and exciting dimension to our Education Portfolio. You will already know that the GAI Diploma course is an excellent and proven programme for advancing the expertise and career of those involved in architectural hardware. This year the Guild is introducing a brand new global online training platform with the launch of ‘The Education Hub’, a super enhancement for our learners to explore. First of all it is completely online – from initial registration to final examination and certificate for both Stages 1 and 2 with a written examination at Stage 3. Secondly, the format is based on visual and audible presentations that are easy to understand and follow step by step. The ongoing delivery of online course work compliments the end of year examination which computer suites will be arranged both in the UK and around the world. The entire education and training portfolio the GAI provides caters for anyone who is pursuing a career in Architectural Ironmongery. The Foundation in Hardware is the perfect induction educationhub.gai.org.uk 04 EDUCATION PORTFOLIO tool for anyone joining the industry, and, having tasted this they may wish to become a fully qualified DipGAI and become proficient in writing ironmongery specifications. The Diploma is the only education programme in the UK that leads to a recognised qualification in door hardware specification. Last year saw another successful intake of students, 311 in total. Global interest has increased significantly in recent years to the extent that 45% of last year’s learners are outside the UK. The Education Hub, therefore, will play a major role in satisfying this demand. Analysis shows that learners attending the residential training courses benefit enormously from the experience and inevitably excel in their examinations. These courses are considered an essential ingredient of the Stage 3 syllabus, and, a full mock examination will stand learners in good stead for the final Diploma hurdle. Throughout their studies the dedicated GAI staff are available to answer queries and help support students in achieving their goals. And watch out for special ‘Student Evenings’ for Stages 1 and 2 too.
