LETTER FROM MRS. LEANY Dear Parents, News
I probably say that every activity is my favorite, but I really, really enjoy our Dance and Art Festival. It is such a wonderful opportunity for your children to show you just how creative they are. Thank you so much for coming and spending the morning with us. We hope it was worth your time. 2015
We are thrilled to welcome 3 new babies. Adam Donald (7 lbs, 19 inches) and Allie Nell (6lbs 8oz, 18.5 inches) joined thrilled parents, Jeffrey and Katie Patterson on April 23. Big sister Avery is so happy her babies are here. Ayush Bhakta is so excited that his baby brother Dav (7lbs 21 inches) arrived on April 25. His parents Pinak and Segal were just as happy to welcome Dav into their family. Congratulations to all. Be looking for more baby news. With the end of the year fast approaching, please pay special attention to the “My Day at...” paper and to notices of dates of events to come. I don't want you to miss a single opportunity to have your child participate in the exciting events planned. As always, if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, I would encourage you to contact me either in person, phone, or by email at [email protected]. I teach in the Coyote classroom each day, but I do check my messages throughout the day. If it is an emergency, please call the school office (760) 328-­‐0861 and let them know you must speak with me and to put you through to the Coyote Classroom. SUMMER SCHOOL: We still need a few more children to be able to have summer school. Invite a friend to join with us. Summer school is not just for Palm Valley students. The only requirements are that the child be at least 2 ½ years old (potty trained) through Kindergarten age. Remember the dates and hours are: June 15-­‐July 3rd, 8:00-­‐4:30. We will be offering this to children already in Kindergarten. They will have a special reading and math program every afternoon. I have more flyers if you need any. IMPORTANT DATES

In April, we showed our creativity and expressed ourselves as sculptors, painters, artists, singers and dancers. We were so proud to show everyone what we did. Our Dance and Art Festival is always a wonderful way to share our amazing talents. We are almost at the end of learning all the letters of the alphabet. Be sure to practice on a regular basis the word cards and letter bingo cards that have been sent home. You also might be surprised what your child can read by sounding out some simple three letter words. We are well on our way to achieving the Kindergarten goal of recognizing the numbers to 20 and counting 30 objects (that one is easy). As we learn about endangered animals and our beautiful continents during May and June, we are reminded of what we learned about how we can save our earth-­‐ reduce, reuse, recycle is our Coyote June 5 Luau/Water Day motto. June 9 Last day of school. School is out at 12:00 June 10 Commencement for JACKRABBIT NEWS 5th, 8th, 12th grade April was such an exciting month! We look forward to next month when we will be learning about the continents and oceans, and the endangered animals that live there. Free Dress Note: We have free dress day almost every Friday. Please remember that even though it is free dress day, we still need to follow some of the school dress code. No jewelry, no boots, and we must wear closed toe shoes with socks. HUMMINGBIRD NEWS April was a busy month for the Hummingbirds! We learned about famous artists such as Michelangelo and Picasso. We created still life pictures using the easel, constructed sculptures with dry clay, and made a collage using photos of ourselves. Samples of our work were displayed at the Dance and Art Festival. We also learned the letters d, q, w, and u. Our next theme will be discovering different places of the world, and where our families are from. We will be learning about the different continents, oceans and animal life on the planet. We will end our travels with the big Water Day/ Luau! QUAIL NEWS
The Quail class has been very creative and artistic in the month of April. We all had the opportunity to experience different art mediums as we painted, sculpted, and wrote and illustrated a book. We learned about and used many different tools and media. We introduced new letters: d, q, and w, and learned about size and sequencing. We took some time to learn about how to take care of planet Earth and the importance of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. Quote
The best thing we can create and keep are friendships. Unknown Next month’s theme will be “Me and the World”. We will learn about the different countries that form each continent, their cultures, customs, education, food, and family life. We can’t wait to start our new theme! Birthdays: We love to share birthdays with your child. You are welcome to bring healthy treat to share with your child’s class. Please make sure your child’s teacher knows in advance what you are planning to serve. We have several children with allergies and we want to make sure to include them. Children are invited to donate a new book to the classroom library. We try to have the special treat at 2:15 before we go outside for our last recess. SPANISH As we travel around the continents we are learning the names of some special animals: oso polar, mono, oso marron, manate, y pinquino. Can you guess what they are? We did such a fabulous job learning our dance songs. We will be doing some fun dances and gymnastics for the rest of the year. THEME DAY Sophia Brook 5/9 Cole Trevor 5/2 Barbara Brown 5/15 The last theme day of the year will be our Luau and Water Day. It will be June 5 at 10:00-­‐12:00. We will eat around 11:30. The school will supply the luau feast but will need lots of parent helpers to supervise the water slide and kiddie pools, fill water balloons, and help us enjoy the day. Please let your child's teacher know if you can help. Picky eating is temporary and there are many things you can do to deal with picky eating in a positive way. One way is to make food fun! Let your child choose something they think they might want to try. Making small portions and letting them help with the preparation always encourages interest in new foods. GARDEN NEWS
We are so excited! Our garden boxes will be arriving on May 11. We will be having a special work day on Sat. May 16. We would love to have as many adults as possible come to help us put it together. It is too dangerous for children to be around the "construction site" so children will not be allowed to come that day. We will have plenty of days for the children to explore and enjoy planting in the boxes. Please let Mrs. Leany or Miguel Amaya know if you can help.
