Baker’s Treat was founded by
long time Hunterdon County residents, Nancy and Stanley Baron.

well as the success of a group of
Buddhist monks in
Brooklyn who had
taken in the homeless and created a
bakery and environment to work in.
Stanley Baron, a Sherlock Holmes

Baker’s Treat as a play on the
words “Baker Street”.

women in recovery from alcohol
and substance abuse by employing

Baker’s Treat’s main pride and
joy is the 6500 square foot Route
12 facility in Flemington, which
boasts a café, 2 kitchens (one for
savory, one for bakery), a drive-
through-window, shipping department and cake decorating room
where one can watch as the cake
decorators demonstrate their varied and many skills. In addition to
wedding and specialty cakes, they
have baked up quite a reputation,
especially when it comes to the
chocolate mousse, mile-high and
the coconut cakes. Products are
made from scratch and custom
cake orders are always welcome.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

All radio stations are pretty
much the same, consisting of
studios, audio equipment, computers and transmitters. The big
difference becomes very evident
when the microphones are
turned on. That’s where WDVR
had a special, God given gift,
that gift was my wife of 53 years
and life-long soul mate, Ginny
Lee. The untimely loss of Ginny
Lee created a chain reaction of
shock and loss that burned
through WDVR and rolled out
through the terrestrial radio landscape as far as Western Europe.
It was one of those remarkable
shockers that etched an indelible image in everyone’s mind, of
where they were and what they
were doing when they heard the
news.
I may have had the original
dream to build WDVR but Ginny
picked it up, cradled it in her
hands and molded it into a beautiful community haven. Always
committed to rolling up her
sleeves she even helped out in
our garage as we engineer type
guys were resurrecting our first,
donated transmitter. And in
those early days in 1990, when
on the air from only 5 pm to Midnight, with our entire music library consisting of our private
record collection from home,
Ginny was right there on the air
and helping newly minted Dee
Jays struggle through their first,
shaky shows.
Over the last 21 years, WDVR
took on the personality of Ginny
Lee. The station became Ginny
Lee incarnate, reflecting her enthusiastic, family style of gentle
management and a highly seasoned sense of humor which radiated electromagnetically to the
listeners. She was loved not only
at WDVR, but also by thousands
of those who heard her voice
and contagious giggle. To those
of us who enjoyed the congenial,
almost club-like atmosphere of
WDVR, her easy-going style
made it look so very simple, just
as every expert seems able to
do.
This is not to say that Ginny
was one with whom to match
wits or try to alter the standards
she set for that DVR, downhome sound. More than a few
challengers will give respectable, even humorous testimony to a losing bout with the
sting of Ginny’s firm but always
velvet glove. She never once
compromised her family-friendly,
WDVR programming philosophy.
The top surface of Ginny’s
desk was hardly ever visable to
the naked eye. Casual observers and staff alike, were
awed by the stacks of paper, the
mysterious workings, her methods of filing, her paper handling
and the seemingly impossible,
but always efficient disposition of
each important piece of station
business. When questioned
about the heaps and piles, visable even from the lobby couch,
she would usually gleam one of
her wry smiles and claim it was a
top secret filing system.
She was one of those individuals that come along only oncein-a-lifetime. She was an “Aunt
Ginny” to many. She was that
warm, helpful voice on your telephone, late at night. And at
times, she was a steel magnolia.
But most of all, she was a beautiful person with a beautiful mind,
a kind heart and she was my
rock. She will never be forgotten,
because whenever a doubt or a
difference of opinion arises at
WDVR, the question will always
be, “What would Ginny do”?
Ginny’s spirit will live on and forever guide us.

pick up at the drive-through, you will
savor all of the fresh ingredients used
to create specialty soups, sandwiches
and hot dishes. The Hunterdon-raised
beef, fed only home-grown hay and
grain, makes a hearty burger! The
lentil or black bean burger and potato
cake is guaranteed to stick to your ribs.
No one can resist the chicken salad
made with almonds and apricots or the
turkey waldorf salad with their own
oven cooked turkey. Specials are offered each day.
Baker’s Treat also provides full-service catering and can customize orders to the highest expectations.
Whether you order the chicken with artichokes and capers, the veggie sandwich with jalapeño mayonnaise, or the
roasted veggie quiche, to name a few,
you will be pleasantly surprised by the
freshness and flavor of each selection.
The Baker’s Treat Lambertville location is located on Church Street and
has been operating since 2004. They
also now operate the Courthouse Café
in the Somerset County Courthouse,

1939 -2010
We are mourning the passing of Ginny Lee with profound grief. She was the spark that lit the flame of WDVR. She
molded this station, with her compassion and wisdom, into a friendly and warm shelter, buffering all us from that cold,
unpredictable outside world.
With kindness, always mindful of others feelings, she would weave her gentle, sage advice, consoling and delivering moral support to both WDVR family members and listeners alike. She was very generous with her time, always
being available in that moment when she might make a difference in someone’s life or to lend a helping hand.
Her love of people was ingrained in her philosophy of life; share what you have, whatever that may be, and if you
do the right thing, you never have to revisit it. As a test to her Christian upbringing, forgiveness was the first and only
arrow in her quiver. She believed in second chances, and her quiet countenance encouraged everyone to be the best
they could possibly be.
Every day was joyous to Ginny. She celebrated the ordinary things in life and she was passionate about new possibilities. Curious and adventuresome she looked forward to that next new experience, spurring everyone on with
her energy, sense of humor and contagious laughter. Her optimism and grace made every thing seem easy and possible. She truly believed, and made everyone believe, that if you dream it, you can do it.
She was the person that people could depend on when, in a personal crisis, they needed help or a solution to span
one of life’s rough, bumpy patches. However, in her own final crisis, as she valiantly fought, she firmly insisted that
we not share or burden others with her losing battle, but instead quietly, repeated, “It is what it is”..
She was an extraordinary presence and showed us, by example, how we can live our lives. Her spark will live forever in the lives of everyone that had the honor to know her.

What first drew my wife Joan and me
to WDVR was that it broadcast right
from the heart of the Delaware Valley.
We love WDVR because it has its finger on the pulse of our community. We
learn about things going on right in our
community that we would not have
been aware of had we not heard about
it on WDVR. As a result, our knowledge and appreciation of our hometown area has been exponentially
increased.
Whether your interests lie in music,
the arts, local events, or enlightening
conversations about all sorts of interesting topics, WDVR delivers it all 24
hours a day. WDVR features DJs that
host a wide variety of shows covering
most musical genres, things going on
with the workforce, local professionals
and entrepreneurs. The talk shows
feature thought-provoking and entertaining interviews with local businesses, professionals, artists, authors
and craftspeople. What a great way to
learn about where we live and how to
enjoy it more. WDVR also introduces
us to new ideas and approaches to life
that we might otherwise have missed.

how to live. Cats don’t waste time
standing in front of mirrors getting dismayed.
It’s much better to suddenly run riot,
yell for food and hog the easy chair.
And I say real pleasure is in napping
and not shopping.
Any cat will admit creating tuna breath
is superior to social networking and
getting dumb emails from tom cats. A
cat like me maintains a full life with various litter-ary pursuits, Year
of the Rabbit hunting trips and WDVR productions. My high profile
has even attracted a Chihuahua stalker. How flattering. You should
be so lucky.

“Tempus with John Cole”

gave me a chance to do something I
always wanted to do and I am deeply
grateful. I have come up with a program format entitled, “Tempus with
John Cole.” It is on Thursday evenings
from 6 to 7 p.m. and is a lot of fun for
me. Thank you for the encouraging
words I have received from WDVR-FM
members and listeners.
Since coming to WDVR-FM this past
June, I have come to know and appre-
ciate the quality of the station’s volunteer staff, diversity, and listeners. Having been shown the ropes by helpful,
fellow broadcasters, I am beginning to
feel more comfortable in how I bring
you solid, dependable information, a
variety of musical sounds, and a
stream of interesting interviews.
I have been working to make “Tempus with John Cole” a dependable
place for information on the week’s
happenings, which doesn’t “tell” you
how to think about events, but leaves
facts and insights for you to consider. I
do my best, with the time I have, to be
sure you get background information
and straight-up descriptions of events
and trends, which do or could impact
our world. My interviews focus on the
lives and work of remarkable individuals, who are making a difference in the
world of others, whether from the business, public, or non-profit sectors.
There are a lot of good people on this
earth, and some who appear to be
virtue challenged! Tempus deals with
them both – and those who keep us
guessing. Using my background in
helping individuals and organizations
prosper, I have segments in most of
my one-hour programs for career and
personal development information,
along with international, national, local,
health, automotive, sports, and tech
news. Every week there is at least one
thought provoking reading from the
pen of an ancient sage or a modern
day poet. To pique your interest, I look
out for different kinds of stories that
might have happened in your own
back yard or in some another part of
the country, which will make you
thoughtfully reflect or bring a smile to
your face.
Join me, Thursday evenings, from 6
to 7 p.m. I look forward to you enjoying Tempus, as much as I enjoy bringing it to you.
Second Big Year for the Wine Tasting at Clinton Falls
Balic of Clinton and WDVR FM
have once again teamed-up for the
Wine Tasting at Clinton Falls to be
held Sunday, May 15 from 2:00 to
4:00 PM. This year’s remote broadcast and wine tasting will be located
in the Clinton Falls Village located at
49 Main Street in Clinton, NJ, and
will feature even more participating
businesses than last year.
Proceeds from the nominal tasting
fee and silent auction will go directly
to fund the operations of WDVR.
Participating retailers will make additional donations when shoppers
mention WDVR.
Wine lovers, listeners and the pub-

lic are encouraged to join WDVR for
wine tasting, refreshments, silent
auction and live radio at the May 15
event. Participants must be twentyone and have legal ID in order to

Williams in the fall of 2004, with a vision of creating a unique wine boutique in a historic town. Balic of
Clinton features over 20 wines from
Balic Winery of Mays Landing including: reds, whites, semi-sweets
and six fruit wines (Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Cranberry, Raspberry
and Pomegranate). Free tasting is
offered daily. The shop also offers

“Battle of the Groups”
Hi gang ! That’s the famous opening
line to the late and great disc jockey
Alan Freed, who, in Cleveland Ohio
sixty years ago, introduced us to the
world of Rhythm and Blues and Rock
and Roll. Here at WDVR I’m keeping
that music alive with the “Battle of the
Groups”, classic R&B/R&R vocal

60's. I play the standards, semi-standards, and those hard to find collectors
items.
The music world recently lost two
great legends. Ronnie I, of Clifton
Music, who was the founder and the
president of United in Group Harmony
Association. in which I have been a
member since 1974. Many of our
WDVR listeners are also members.
We also lost the King of the New York
sound Bobby Robinson, who, throughout the 1950's and early 60's, with his
Red Robin , Whirlin Disc, Fury, Fire ,
and Fling labels gave us dozens of
vocal group legends. We will miss
them for they were instrumental in keeping vocal group harmony alive. I can only hope to
continue with their message.
I have acquired many listeners over the past six years
that I’ve been on WDVR and
have received many calls
when I’m on the air like “ what
a great record, I hadn’t heard
that in fifty years.”. I try to fill
as many requests as possible,
and if can’t, I’ll bring it in for
next weeks show. There are
several listeners who are very
knowledgeable of this particular era of music, so I look forward hearing from them.
During the summer months I
bring two of my three angels (granddaughters) to the station. Lauren is the
WDVR weather girl and Kaitie is my
engineer. I hope to bring my youngest
angel Leah to the station this year
when she turns six. WDVR is truly a

Dear Friends,
We start this new season with sadness in our hearts but also and with hope in the future.
You are the reason that this station has managed to stay on the air for twenty one years. Yes, we are now legal. Your
past generosity says a lot about who you are, the values you believe in, and is significant to the success of our efforts. So, we wish a Happy Anniversary to both you and to us. We are very much alike, you and us, we’re just on the
other side of the radio waves, doing our best to present to you the best that radio can be.
There is one word that comes up over and over again here at WDVR.
Whether it’s from the listeners who get in touch with us, the grantors who help underwrite out programming, the
community organizations that rely on us to help spread the word about events, or the volunteers who selflessly give
up their time to be here, the word we hear all the time is Family. WDVR feels like family to many, many people
throughout the area and those that listen on the internet.
Of course, that’s music to our ears, because it’s exactly how we feel about our listeners and partners. Unlike commercial stations, WDVR is always able to put our listeners first.
We hear many listeners say that WDVR plays a big part in making them feel a part of the community, and that’s their
reason for giving us financial support. That’s what family members do. They support one another.
Radio is a powerful tool. Music is good for the soul. Educational programs expand your knowledge, and freedom in
radio is a lost right. But you have it here on 89.7 FM WDVR.
We need to know that you recognize how precious this station is, and that we are dependent on your financial support.
Support is an expressed belief in what you think is right, good and worthwhile. As long as you are out there with your
