Located at the heart of Paris, in the Marais district,
near Notre Dame Cathedral and of the Ile de la Cité,

Le Centre Pompidou est un lieu culturel

Installé aux niveaux 4 et 5 du Centre Pompidou,
avec ses espaces ouverts sur la capitale,
le Musée offre un panorama exceptionnel de l’art

Based on levels 4 and 5 of Centre Pompidou, with
its extensive glass bays and far-reaching views over
Paris, the Museum provides an exceptional insight

La richesse de cette collection permet de composer
des parcours à la fois thématiques et chronologiques
à travers les avant-gardes du 20e siècle et
les créations contemporaines. Elle regroupe des
œuvres emblématiques de toutes les formes
artistiques à travers des salles consacrées à
la peinture, à l’architecture, au design ou même
à l’art sonore et au multimédia.
The extent of its collection enables the museum to
create both thematic and chronological exhibitions
from the avant-gardes of the 20th century to
contemporary art. The museum has leading works
drawn from all forms of art, with rooms dedicated to
painting, architecture, design and even sound art and
multimedia.
Le niveau 5 met l’accent sur les chefs-d’œuvre
des maîtres de l’art moderne tels Kandinsky,
Matisse, Chagall, Léger, Picasso, Miró, Dali,
Dubuffet, Klein… Le visiteur découvre les grands
mouvements artistiques du 20e siècle comme le
Cubisme, l’Abstraction, le Dadaïsme, le Surréalisme,
les Nouveaux réalistes français, les Néo-dadas
américains et l’art cinétique.
Le niveau 4 est consacré à la collection
contemporaine, des années 1960 à nos jours.
Il met à l’honneur les œuvres d’artistes majeurs
de la scène contemporaine, comme Warhol, Bacon,
Buren, Boltanski, Opalka, Twombly, Hantaï, Tallon,
Widmer, Garouste…

Un parcours dans le Centre, des explications sur
cette architecture radicale, l’histoire du quartier,
suivi d’un accès libre au Musée.
Conçu par les architectes Renzo Piano et Richard
Rogers, le bâtiment du Centre Pompidou, haut de
42 mètres, est une œuvre phare du 20e siècle et l’une
des institutions culturelles les plus fréquentées au
monde. Depuis sa construction, son architecture de
verre et d’acier, son escalier mécanique et ses tuyaux
colorés de tons primaires (le bleu, le rouge, le vert,
le jaune) ont fasciné les visiteurs. La « chenille » qui
s’élève le long de sa façade principale est devenue
l’emblème du Centre Pompidou.
Cette visite commence par la découverte de
l’environnement urbain et des œuvres qui
enrichissent les espaces alentours : la Fontaine
Stravinsky de Jean Tinguely et Niki de Saint-Phalle,
et l’Atelier Brancusi.
La promenade se poursuit à travers les espaces du
Centre pour découvrir les différentes facettes du
bâtiment et des espaces muséaux, jusqu’au dernier
étage. De là, un panorama unique et particulièrement
spectaculaire s’offre au visiteur sur la capitale et ses
principaux monuments : le Sacré Cœur, Notre Dame,
la Tour Eiffel.
A journey through Centre Pompidou,
with commentary about its radical architecture,
the history of the neighbourhood, followed by
a visit to the Museum.
Designed by the architects Renzo Piano and
Richard Rogers, the building of Centre Pompidou,
which is 42 metres tall, is a leading architectural
masterpiece of the 20th century and one of the most
popular cultural institutions in the world. Since its
construction, its steel and glass architecture, its
soaring escalator and its pipes painted in primary
colours (blue, red, green, yellow) have fascinated
visitors from the world over. The “caterpillar” which
rises along its main facade has become the emblem
of Centre Pompidou.
This guided tour starts with the discovery of the
urban fabric and the works of art that are dotted
around the surrounding areas: the Stravinsky
Fountain by Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint-Phalle,
and the Brancusi Workshop.
The walk continues through the spaces of the Centre
itself where visitors will be introduced to the various
aspects of the building and its museum spaces,
culminating on the top floor. From there, visitors can
admire the unique and particularly spectacular view
of Paris and its main landmarks: the Sacré Cœur,
Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower.

Centre Pompidou was built in the heart of the
historic district of Paris, not far from the banks of the
river Seine. Its location makes it tempting for visitors
to stroll through the old streets that surround it
and to discover the eclectic mixture of ancient and
modern buildings which lend the area an aura of
prestige and contribute to the beauty, the charm and
the reputation of Paris.

2. Un second itinéraire en partenariat avec
les Vedettes de Paris : à partir du Centre , après
une visite architecturale de 45 mn à l’intérieur,
voir la fontaine Stravinsky, passer devant l’Église
Saint-Merri, puis rue de la Verrerie, vers la place
du Bourg-Tibourg, Église St Gervais, Pont Louis
Philippe, Rue du Cloître, Notre Dame, vers le Quai de
la Tournelle où se trouve l’embarcadère des Vedettes
de Paris. Après avoir quitté le conférencier du Centre,
poursuite de la visite à bord d’un bateau des Vedettes
de Paris : cette croisière sera audio-guidée.
D’une durée de 35 minutes, la croisière permet
de voir les deux rives du fleuve défiler devant de
nombreuses réalisations architecturales des temps
passés et d’aujourd’hui : le Palais de Justice,
le Louvre, le Musée d’Orsay le Musée du Quai Branly
pour une arrivée au pied de la Tour Eiffel.
2. A second itinerary run in partnership with Vedettes
de Paris: Upon leaving Centre Pompidou after a
45 minute tour of the architecture within, see the
Stravinsky Fountain, walk past Saint-Merri church,

The box office close at 8pm
Late-night opening on Thursdays until

INDIVIDUAL VISITS:
“Musée et Expositions”: access to the
national museum of modern art,
to the exhibitions and to the view from
the top floor: € 10 to € 12 depending
on the time of the year
Concessions: € 8 to € 9 for visitors aged
under 18 (museum and exhibitions),
18-25 (museum only)
1st Sunday of each month: free entry
to the museum.
Top floor view only: € 3 (free for those
aged under 26 and on the first Sunday
