Chourouk Hriech (b. 1977) lives and works between Marseille, France and her
hometown of Rabat, Morocco. Hriech works primarily with monochrome or black and
white two-dimensional drawings, as well as installations, videos and photomontages.
Her drawings create spaces not by empirical reality, but through recognisable
elements of actual places. The often-surreal nature of these images interacts with
notions of mapping, mobility, social fictions and contemporary living solutions.
Her work has been shown in institutions including the Musée d'art moderne et
contemporain, Genève, Switzerland (2013), Kunstnernes Hus Oslo, Norway (2009)
L’Appartement 22, Rabat, Morocco (2007), as well as at the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Lyon and the Museum of Shanghai, China.
