Mystic Irish Parade Foundation
Lá Fhéile Pádraig
Sona Daoibh
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all
Year eleven, and we’re in Irish Heaven! Welcome to the 11th Annual Mystic Irish
Parade in downtown Mystic!
Eleven years ago, a few dedicated members of the community joined together in
celebration of their Celtic heritage. Wanting to share their cultural traditions with
their friends and families, they decided to bring Ireland to the small town of
Mystic Connecticut. Better known as the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation, this
phenomenal team of local residents, business leaders and community volunteers
plan and execute the Mystic Irish Parade each year in downtown Mystic.
Recently, on October 27th of 2013, the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation lost one of
their most valued founding fathers. Capt. Lawrence E. Gemma, originally a Navy
helicopter pilot, is most well known in Eastern Connecticut as the small business
owner of the Mystic Army Navy store locations in downtown Mystic and Olde
Mystic Village. As an active member of the community and constant contributor
to local nonprofit organizations, he is sadly missed but never forgotten. As Gemma
always said, “If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right!”
The Mystic Irish Parade Foundation continues to have fun each year as an 100%
volunteer driven organization, supported by team members dedicated to promoting
Irish heritage and organizing a spectacular parade for the community! The MIPF
is a registered 501c3 nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible.
In just over a decade, the parade has transformed into not only Mystic’s largest
single day celebration, but one of Connecticut’s most renowned St. Patrick’s Day
events as well. The Mystic Irish Parade draws over 30,000 spectators to the quaint
town each year, and the crowd only continues to grow. Over 2,000 participants
will march alongside more than 120 organizations with uniquely decorated floats

and trucks! The parade will also be host to antique cars, adorned fire trucks, police
units and local Scout troops. High school area bands will perform as well.
Kicking off at 1:00 pm, the parade, extending from the Mystic Seaport Museum to
the Mystic Art Association, will be host to over ten Celtic rooted Pipe Bands,
representing more than any other parade statewide. In addition to Fife & Drum
Units and Drum & Bugle Corps that will contribute festive music as well, this
year’s parade will also feature the band Inchicore!
As Boston’s best Irish Folk Band, fronted by Dublin’s Derrick Keane, Inchicore is
“widely regarded as one of the top Irish bands in the country, playing to packed venues
all over the country,” writes The ECHO. With an outstanding stage presence and solid
vocals, the Celtic melodies of Inchicore are guaranteed to impress the crowd!
The parade, funded by proceeds from events, the generosity of local business
sponsorships and individual sale of raffle tickets, is an annual celebration that has
become a community wide cultural tradition. Surplus funds from the Mystic Irish
Parade are donated to local charities, such as Safe Futures, Mystic Area Shelter &
Hospitality, Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, Society of St. Edmund’s Retreat
Center and the John Kelley Statue Fund. Over $2,000 was donated to these local
nonprofit organizations in 2013.
A special thank you to our sponsors, for without them, the Mystic Irish Parade
would not have grown into the community celebration that it is today. We ask that
the Southeastern CT community please help us return the favor by supporting our
sponsors and shopping local. Our major sponsors include Levine Distributors
(Budweiser) Mohegan Sun, The Day, F&F Distributors (Guinness), Olde Mystic
Village and Full Power Radio (Jammin 107.7, WBMW 106.5).
Lastly, on Sunday, March 30th at 4:00 PM at the Harp & Hound Pub in Mystic, we
will award trophies to the winning participants of the parade. We will also honor the
dedicated volunteers who have made the Mystic Irish Parade a resounding success
and one of the most reputable parades in New England. We will hold the annual raffle
drawing for a trip for two to Ireland as well. (Raffle tickets can be purchased at the
Harp & Hound, Taber Inne and the Wireless Zone in Groton for $5 per ticket.)
Thank you for joining us at the 11th Annual Mystic Irish Parade!
Enjoy the festivities and cheers to future parades to come!
Slán go fóill - goodbye for now!

2014 Grand Marshal:
Tony
Sheridan
As the Irish say, “Many hands make light work!” and it is due to
continued community support that the parade has transformed into one
of Connecticut’s most renowned Celtic cultural events! As a keystone
in family entertainment and an event for all ages, the Mystic Irish Parade
Foundation celebrates an incredible eleven years and look forward to
many more to come!

In special commemoration of year eleven, the Mystic Irish Parade
Foundation is honored to have Tony Sheridan, President of the Eastern
Chamber of Commerce, serve as the Grand Marshal of for the 2014
Mystic Irish Parade! This honor is bestowed to an outstanding member
of Eastern Connecticut whom is dedicated to giving back to the
community every day.
Tony Sheridan, formally announced as the Grand Marshal of the Mystic
Irish Parade on November 14th, 2013, has served as the chief executive
officer of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut since 2002
representing over 1600 companies. In 2010, Mr. Sheridan was named
the statewide chamber executive of the year.
Mr. Sheridan emigrated from the beautiful country of Ireland at age
19. During his youth, he served as an apprentice and became a licensed
plumber and pipe fitter. After he earned his high school equivalency
with New London Continuing Education, he later earned his bachelor’s
degree from Connecticut College. He continued his education and
received his master’s degree in organizational psychology from the
University of New Haven.
Tony served as a Human Resources Director for thirteen years at his
alum university. He was elected and served as First Selectman for the
town of Waterford for four terms. Following his tenure as First
Selectman, Tony served as External Relations Consultant for Northeast
Utilities and as the Manager of Community Relations for Dominion
Nuclear in Waterford, CT.
Currently, he is the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern
Connecticut. Tony is constantly organizing and strategizing with
regional forces to promote and support ‘shopping local.’ Mr. Sheridan
Mystic Irish Parade Foundation
is dedicated to growing community businesses, increasing tourism and
contributing towards local nonprofit organizations.
“Tony is a tireless leader and a great person to work with. He seems to
be everywhere at once, always ready to support our local businesses.
As a resident and business leader, he truly cares about the community
of Eastern Connecticut, and brings his enthusiasm and energy to
valuable causes throughout the region,” says Megan Cronin, Program
& Events Manager for the Eastern Chamber of Commerce.
Tony lives in Waterford with his wife Peggy, a professor at Connecticut
College. They have two sons, Keenan who is a teacher at Cushing
Academy in Massachusetts and Tosh who is a professional musician
in New York City. Mr. Sheridan’s commitment to Eastern Connecticut
is unsurpassed and the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation is honored to
have him serve as the 2014 Grand Marshal!
“The Grand Marshal is a pillar in the community and we couldn’t be
more excited to have Tony Sheridan represent this year’s parade. And
better yet, he is a true native of Ireland!” says Neil Ryan, Vice President
of the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation. A sincere thank you to Mr.
Tony Sheridan for serving as the Grand Marshal and supporting this
year at the Mystic Irish Parade!
