Emily Beach
Emily and Duff Beach moved to Burlingame from San Francisco six years
ago for its small-town charm, unpretentious community, great weather,
and excellent public schools. Now with Kate in 3rd grade and Matthew in
1st grade at Lincoln, they have a deeper appreciation for what makes our
city so special.

Burlingame Community for Education
Foundation (BCE) helps Burlingame School
District (BSD) sustain and enhance an
exceptional public education for all K-8
students. Working together with parents,
the school district, and community, we
provide BSD with financial resources to
create a rich and inspiring education for
our children beyond what is possible with
public funds.
BCE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit
corporation.
Burlingame has an unwavering commitment to its public schools. We have
world-class educators who love teaching in our district. We have an experienced school board and administration that provide strong leadership.
We have safe neighborhoods and schools where students feel supported,
challenged, and a sense of belonging. We have deeply committed parents
who ensure Burlingame schools have the resources needed to provide our
children with a rich and inspiring public education.
Emily is a mom, professional musician, and the current president of BCE.
Her past experience as a U.S. Army Captain and business executive helps
her lead 100+ mission-driven volunteers and over 1400 donors who help
make Burlingame schools the best they can be.

BCE’S 2012-13 GRANT HELPS BURLINGAME SCHOOL DISTRICT FUND:
SMALL K-3 CLASS SIZE
While space constraints are a very real issue in our district, our leaders
recognize the importance of small class sizes, especially in the younger
grades. Lower teacher/student ratios enable differentiation and
strengthen relationships between students and teachers.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
With the move to Common Core standards, professional development has
never been more important. Our teachers need training in new research,
methods of instruction, and changes in the curriculum.
SCIENCE AND MATH COACHES
What’s the
impact of

Curriculum experts develop lesson plans and strategies that engage our
students in STEM fundamentals at each grade level.
ARTS EDUCATION
BSD’s comprehensive K-8 music program, led by credentialed educators,
builds music literacy, appreciation, self confidence, and creativity at each
grade level. BIS also has an active musical theater program.
CREDENTIALED PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
Exercise, play, and movement help children develop, focus, and learn. Our
credentialed PE instructors also teach our children lifelong lessons in
teamwork, character building, and healthy choices.
LIBRARY SERVICES
Our libraries are open and thriving under the guidance of a credentialed
librarian and media aides. Students have nurturing environments to
explore literature and discover the power of research.

education instruction, library

district needs to direct public
funds where they make the biggest

education for all Kindergarten
through 8th grade students.

SCIENCE COACH
Brennan Brockbank
Brennan Brockbank helps develop curious, science-literate
students. Supporting teachers and students at each elementary school and BIS, he creates the science infrastructure
that helps children understand our natural world. This
includes engaging, relevant curriculum that supports new
science standards.
U.S. public education is transforming. California’s
adoption of the new national Common Core standards
in 2014-15 creates rigorous content in critical thinking
and problem solving, and will ensure our students are
prepared to succeed in a changing world.
Under the leadership of Superintendent Maggie
MacIsaac, our District is poised to maximize the
benefits of this transition consistent with the aspirations of our community. Dr. MacIsaac is committed to
cultivating curious thinkers who love to learn, teaching students to synthesize information and solve
problems creatively, think independently, develop
self-confidence, respect others, and appreciate our
world. Burlingame schools build the foundation for
their future success.
MATH COACH
Susan Anderson
Susan Anderson helps teachers create strategies to develop
critical thinking and reasoning skills consistent with new
math standards and essential for high school, college, and
career readiness.
Because of BCE’s flexible funding, Burlingame School
District (BSD) can optimize how every dollar is spent
and create differentiated learning environments in
our classrooms. We keep class sizes as low as possible. We provide coaching for our outstanding teachers to continually develop their skills. We provide
access to learning opportunities beyond core subjects — the arts, physical education, library and media
