A Celebration of Camp Oochigeas
On May 28, 2010, at the age of eight, Haddan Eby lost her 6 year battle
with cancer. Her short life was full of love, laughter and joy. She was lucky
enough to spend two summers at Camp Oochigeas in Muskoka where
she had some of the best days of her life. We want to celebrate Haddan’s
life by making sure that every child with cancer gets that same fantastic
opportunity she had.
Founded in 1983, Camp Oochigeas (Ooch) has been providing magical
camp experiences for children with and affected by childhood cancer.
Ooch is much more than a summer camp. Ooch is the only residential
camp in Ontario to offer onsite IV chemotherapy treatment and blood
transfusions. Camp Ooch provides year-round programs for children with
and affected by childhood cancer in Muskoka, at The Hospital for Sick
Children (SickKids), Ooch Downtown in the heart of Toronto and various
other healthcare centres across Ontario. Through these programs, Ooch
provides fun and meaningful experiences to approximately 1000 children
and 300 families each year.
Receiving no Government funding, Camp Ooch is made
possible by the generous support of donors and volunteers.
Currently, only 21% of children with cancer in Ontario access residential
oncology camps. Right now, we meet every child diagnosed with cancer at
SickKids, but it is Ooch’s goal to provide every child diagnosed with cancer
in Ontario the Magic of Camp Ooch.
“A Night at Camp” is a fun filled evening that features delicious food,
live entertainment, dancing and a live and silent auction.

The Haddan Eby Endowment Fund was created to honour
Haddan and to provide sustainable funding for future programs
and ensure future Camp Ooch campers can “Find the Joy.”

Funds are raised through this biannual gala and individual donations
directed to the fund. A large part of our financial success will
depend on the success of the gala. Through the event, the fund
donates $0.88 of every dollar raised to Camp Oochigeas.

In 2016, the gala, through the Endowment Fund, will support the
Camp Oochigeas Capital Campaign to expand and redevelop
the existing 400 acre site to increase camper enrolment by 50%.
