books for 2015 can be closed with a better result than budgeted and keeping in line with the long-term policy plan, the KFPS Board
would like to follow-up the 2014-2015 investments and further cuts are not deemed necessary. More cutbacks would afect our
service levels on a national and probably even more so on an international scale, but also core businesses such as in the ields of
breeding, communication and events would sufer. Instead, the KFPS Board deems it necessary to work on the consolidation of the
organisation. We will therefore seek to invest in market development, international promotion and the support of foreign associations. Our programme for more breeding research will also be continued. Expenses for breeding research can be inanced from the
allocated reserves.

4.2 Breeding and research
BBreeding research primarily focuses on DNA research. In 2015 the University of Utrecht managed to locate the mutation on the
genome which is responsible for dwarism, so that the marker test could be replaced with a gene test. Even though the marker test
turned out (with hindsight) to have been fairly reliable it is a good thing to have access to a test which, just like the hydrocephaly test,

In 2015 new research was initiated to assess the relation between the fertilising capacity of sperm cells and deviating acrosomes. The
purpose in mind would be, that if it turns out that at present morphological incorrect semen proves in fact to be capable of fertilisation, then the norm for sperm examination of stallions can be adapted.
