Victoria Inner Harbour Boat Show
1.1. Steven Threadkell joined the meeting at 1:00 pm and made the following report:













Currently, at 80% capacity in the tent and 60-65% in the water with knowledge of more exhibitors
coming still. Steven is encouraging any members who have not done so already to sign up as it’s getting
tight.
There has been no response back from Scotiabank in terms of sponsorship. Larry spoke to Ken at
commercial banking and the proposal has been sent to Head Office which can take some time.
In terms of the parking lot, the Show may extend down Ship’s Point, depending on exhibitors
In terms of prizes:
Twin Anchors has again offered a reduced price on a gift certificate for a 7-night houseboat vacation
Harbour Air has provided 2 free air tours around Victoria
Inn at Laurel Point and Coast Harbourside are providing free room nights and the Harbour Towers Hotel
is also offering free room nights and commission of $5 for every room night booked
On the expenses side, Steven is keeping a tight eye on things
Holy Cow Media is doing a great job on the promotions. Currently they are working on:
 Billboard signage on Highway
 Lots of Facebook promotion
 Times-Colonist ads
 Ads in YachtWorld
Steven asked the Board to forward him information about any interesting boats that could be featured
on Facebook to help promote the show. Bruce offered to forward on one he has.
Erin at Holy Cow has targeted the US market via Facebook and has got plenty of likes and shares
Will Walker Financials: Steven left a message and has received no response back. Will follow-up as he is
a regular at the Show.
Vancouver Yacht Sales have talked to Steven about getting their boats in to the Boat Show. Heather
updated the Board that they have applied for membership and want to put a boat in the show.

The meeting was called to order at 1:08pm by Larry Glowasky.
Quorum was achieved with five board members in attendance.

5.1.5. Corporate Membership: David Eggert, SALTS (Sail and Life Training Society)
Larry commented that he has always had great relations with SALTS and is a strong supporter of the
Association. They would like to use our forms and they are open to doing co-brokerage.
Tony thinks that members will be concerned that SALTS get boats on a complimentary basis and
may scoop a sale from one of our members.
Bruce suggested that the Board discussed this application after the Open Meeting once SALTS has
had a chance to do their presentation

5.3. Pending Broker List
Heather presented the list she created for the Membership Committee to follow up on pending members
who need to take the exam.
5.4. Associate Membership Category
 At the last meeting, Jeff suggested the possibility of a new Associate Membership class, for other
organizations that buy and sell boats, and fall under the not-for-profit category.
 Disabled Sailing Org and SALTS are the two organizations that might fit in this potential non-profit
category
 Bruce suggested that, as per above decision on SALTS membership, the Board wait until after the Open
Meeting to make a decision on this.

Bylaws & Common Documents – Bruce White
6.1. Changes to the Common Documents will be released on the website shortly and will be sent to the Board for
one last review.
7.
Ethics – Tony Derrien & Cameron Williams
7.1. One complaint letter was received regarding a company that have been marketing themselves on Craigslist
as being members of BCYBA since 1995. Tony phoned the company and spoke to them regarding this
complaint, asking them to remove this ad. The complaint is dealt with however there was a disagreement
with Tony on the phone. If there is further evidence that he uses the logo and statement about being a
member, then we can send a letter. Tony will keep an eye on him and his actions.

Tony also spoke to the complainer – unfortunately the boat he purchased wasn’t registered to the
individual that he bought the boat from, so it’s likely that they will be looking at some legal proceedings.

8.1. The CPYB Pilot exam took place in the office on March 14th with 5 people taking the exam.

Boating BC is looking at re-vamping their website and logo
