unearths hidden treasures in markets,
bazaars and antique outlets from around
the world, turning objects in to luxe
wearable art and re-birthing pieces for a
new generation to enjoy. Each
discovered gem is translated with love in
Jess’s Rhode Island studio and brought
to life in the USA.

While wandering pretty clueless in Mumbai, India looking
for something to catch my Third Eye, I was lured to the
'gold market.' I drank way too much Chai tea while trying
to get the vendors to show me something interesting. By
mistake, several spiritual coin pieces fell out of a box. I
have taken the images from the pieces and recreated
them into pendants. I thought this piece was an
appropriate manifestation of my time in India as despite
the hardships that so obviously face this profound
culture, hardly a corner is turned without a reminder that
the spiritual world isn’t far behind.
The Thai markets never seemed to end. In the blistering
heat that has its downside because between all the
amazing food, fascinating stones, flowing clothing,
buddha statues and palm readers, you will walk until you
no longer can. The Thai love their religious amulets that
you see all over the temples and in the markets. I simply
loved the detailed buddha images, some round and fat,
others austere and surrounded by flames. They were an
easy choice for this collection as they are so beloved by
the people, ubiquitous and a piece of a culture that
remains exotic despite heavy western footsteps.

I created this piece from what I found in my “treasure
hunting” in the Buenos Aires Antiques market that
housed the most quality antiques and "junk" that I have
found in my travels. From vintage furniture to old glass
bottles and home goods, this market made you imagine
a grand and glamorous past. Before exiting the stalls, I
caught a glimpse of lovely antique and handmade lace
that I had almost passed over.I hope the derivative
pieces reflect the elegance of a city both old and its own
and the delicacy of the lace that once meant something
to someone.
I created this piece from what I found in my “treasure
hunting”in the outdoor market in Rome called, Porta
Portese. This chaotic, historic and extensive market is
where I first fell in love with finding objects that were
waiting to be turned into something else. The market
promised not only tables full of cheese, meats,
electronics, bedding and everything else imaginable, it
also displayed antique prayer cards, lace, keys and
other tossed-away objects that were once beloved or
useful to someone in this complex community that loves
its markets. I hope the jewelry reflects depth of its past
life and the joy of rebirth.

The Paris flea markets have a certain elegance not
found at typical second-hand vendors. Amidst what
looked like a Versailles yard sale, I found delicate
"200-year- old lace" that I have cast and made into
jewelry. Yes, the Madame vender may have been full
of merde and the lace might not have been through
wars and great literature, but the derivative jewelry is
meant to reflect the elegance found in the Paris flea
market and the history that has swept through the
lovely lanes that twist and turn with the charm one
might expect.

Aquamarine’s first known use was in Greece between
300 and 500 B.C. Its name comes from a Latin word
meaning 'water of the sea'. According to folklore,
Aquamarine was believed to be mermaids’ treasure
and was worn to bring good luck, eternal youth and
happiness. It is metaphysically known as a stone of
courage and fortitude and is said to assist with quick
intellectual response and calm communication.

Amethyst has long been called the 'sobriety
stone.' In ancient Rome, crushed amethyst was
added to cups of wine to prevent drunkenness. It
is believed that Amethyst promotes stability,
happiness, calm, balance, and courage. Amethyst
is also used as protection for travelers and its
energy wards off negativity in your environment.
Amethyst is associated with the brow and the
crown chakras.
In ancient Greece Aventurine was sewn into the
clothes of men going to war to promote courage
and optimism. It is also said to enhance a sense of
humor and cheerfulness, vitality, growth and
confidence. It is a stone of optimism and helps one
move forward with confidence into new situations
and look at the bright side of situations. It can also
bring good luck on a first date!

Carnelian is one of the oldest gem stones and
protective stones in history. Its name comes from the
Latin word meaning ‘cherry.’ It symbolizes activity
and promotes helpfulness, idealism, activity, creative
energy and assertive will. It is good for people who
wish for good things but have difficulty making them
happen.
Tourmalated Quartz, also known as tourmaline in
quartz, is crystal quartz with threads of black
tourmaline. It is said to combine the powers of
Crystal Quartz and black Tourmaline to be an
excellent protective stone that brings balance, inner
strength and very good luck. It deflects and grounds
negativity, and reduces anxiety and depression.

ABOUT JESSICA RICCI
As the founder and designer behind Jessica Ricci Jewelry, Jess spends countless hours scouring the continents, finding
objects with past lives and translating them into jewelry for each of her rich, unique collections. From homespun
settings housing vivid raw stones, to stamped latin phrases punctuated with champagne diamonds, to cast antique lace
from brilliantly cut chain, Ricci draws upon her own experiences as a journalist, teacher, world-traveler and artist to
create beautiful, hand-crafted designs that are anchored in symbolism, history and sentimentality.
Jessica grew up in Providence, Rhode Island where she studied English Literature at the College of the Holy Cross in
Worcester, Massachusetts. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Montana where she worked with a non-profit
organization and passed time learning to bead simple necklaces, not knowing that the seed for a passionate career in
jewelry design had been planted during those snowed-in wintry nights.
Eventually, Jessica made her way back to Rhode Island where she wrote for a small, local newspaper in a quaint fishing
town. Ready for a new venture, Ricci set out to live in New York City where she earned her master’s degree in
Journalism from New York University and worked for several diverse publications.
In 2001, the designer left her Manhattan career to move to Italy and pursue her dream of combining writing, teaching
and creation. It was in the ancient, magical city of Rome that Jessica became inspired to create more than beaded
necklaces, but rather to develop an entirely new media, turning antique objects in to luxe wearable art, re-birthing one
of a kind pieces for new generations to enjoy.
Through a patchwork of brief jewelry courses and a good deal of trial and error, Ricci’s ideas came to fruition, quickly
developing in to a series of collections that speak to and touch women from around the globe.
Jessica’s inspirations take her from Paris to Mumbai, San Francisco to Nepal, in search of the markets, bazaars and far
off worlds that feed her curiosity and nurture her creativity. She is always amazed by what she can unearth amidst vast
vacancies or chaos and confusion, and what can evolve and emerge when applied to the world’s oldest art form.
ABOUT AGGIE
Agatha Ricci, “Aggie,” is named after St. Agatha, the patron saint of jewelers.
A true New Englander, she loves to play with big dogs on autumn days in the woods on the East Side of
Providence. She enjoys spending summers in Newport, RI where she runs on the seaweed covered beaches and
shares a home with her cousin DABS and several other human relatives. Aggie has traveled to New York City,
San Francisco and Missoula, Montana and dreams of visiting Paris where other petite dogs are celebrated.
Aggie supports Providence Animal Rescue League http://www.parl.org/ and hopes to learn “paw” in the near
future.
