ABOUT TYLER ISD
As the largest school district in Northeast Texas, Tyler ISD encompasses 193 square miles, maintains a total of 36
campus and auxiliary facilities, and serves an enrollment of 18,029 students. The district is made up of two high
schools, six middle schools, 17 elementary schools, two alternative schools, and one special education campus.
The District’s campus improvement plans enable administrators and teachers at each campus to implement
programs responsive to the particular needs of its individual student body.
With academic achievement the primary objective, Tyler ISD takes strong measures to ensure a positive, safe
and orderly learning environment, to instill self-discipline, and to enforce standards of excellence throughout the
system.
An array of programs and opportunities expand beyond Tyler ISD in this culture-rich community. Located midway
between Dallas and Shreveport, Louisiana, Tyler is a garden city of over 100,000 known for its roses and scenic
beauty. Community attractions such as the Caldwell Zoo, East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Tyler Museum of Art,
and Hudnall Planetarium afford opportunities for field trips that expand learning beyond the normal classroom
experience. In addition, Tyler ISD offers access to nationally recognized higher education programs through
partnerships with The University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College.

School District. The goal of PACE is to improve the academic, occupational, and personal skills of potential high school
dropouts to a degree that will permit them to stay in school and graduate with skills for employment and/or post secondary
education. Students work at their own pace and are given the opportunity to repeat assignments until a passing grade is
accomplished. Class work consists of reading the textbooks and completing written assignments with enhancement using
Plato software. Students who complete graduation requirements at PACE will participate in commencement excercises on
their home campus. Bus transportation is not provided.
PLYLER ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL
807 West Glenwood Avenue
903-262-3070
Plyler Alternative School is the District Alternative Education Placement (DAEP) center for Tyler ISD. Students are placed
on campus for a variety of reasons; most of which are a result of behavior issues on their home campus. While at Plyler
students are provided with an alternative style of education. The teacher to student ratio is usually smaller than that of the
home campus which can lead to more teacher to student interaction. Teachers follow the same curriculum format as the
home campus by using the District Scope and Sequence, ensuring that students stay on course and do not fall behind the
home campus instruction. The Plyler campus has a structured environment, more so than the home campus, and students
are expected to follow routines and procedures we have developed for their safety and for the security of the school.
ST. LOUIS EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER

learning and also helps parents make progress toward their own educational, literacy and employment goals. Title I is
the largest federal aid program for our nation’s schools. The goal of Title I is a high quality education for every child. The
program provides extra help to students who attend identified Title I schools - those with high poverty levels and focuses on
assisting students in meeting the standards the state has set for all children.
