FUNDATIA BUCURESTII NOI:
WHO WE ARE:
Bucurestii Noi Foundation was founded in 1998 by two young people who wanted to provide
the elderly people of their neighbourhood living alone and with economic difficulties with
concrete help. The headquarters of the Foundation is in Linistei Street 13, Bucharest.
Bucurestii Noi Foundation has been carrying out its activities in Bucurestii Noi area (sect. 1,
Bucharest) and in the neighbouring areas for more than 10 years. Started from alone elderly
people and needy families, the activities are nowadays addressed to children, young people
and students as well.
Since its birth, the Foundation has been cooperating with Y.A.N.A. Lichtenstein, an NGO which
has been financing the “Alaturi de batrani si de familie” project since its start and which has
helped Bucurestii Noi Foundation providing ca. 20 elderly people with food support and
financial help, when needed.
Nowadays the collaborations are many more: the “Mergem la facultate” project is carried out
with Il Pozzo di Isacco NPO Association and the material support to the families and the
students is possible thanks to the help given by the dutch association Humanitair as well.
Moreover, the “Invatam distrandu-ne” project, which consists in the creation of a free summer
camp throughout the whole summer, involves many young international volunteers (from
Italy, France and Spain). With the increasing number of the offered activities and services, the
number of beneficiaries has increased as well: at the present time Bucurestii Noi Foundation
helps ca. 300-400 people every year.
In 2012 a fourth project has been started: “Cercetasii Bucurestii Noi 1”, which consists in the
financial and technical help for the new scout group Bucurestii Noi 1.
MISSION:
Our mission is “to improve the life conditions of those people living in difficult situations,
removing material obstacles as much as possible, and promoting a formal and informal
educational path which favours personal dignity and independence”.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Food assistance, material and financial support for needy families;
2. Support for deserving students, having low economic possibilities:
 Free or semi-free hospitality at the headquarters of the Foundation;
 Yearly scholarships disbursement;
3. Support for alone elderly people with low economic possibilities:
 Food assistance, material and financial support;
 Organization of recreational days at the headquarters of the Foundation;
4. Formative and recreational activities for children and young people, belonging to the
gipsy ethnic group as well:
 After-school activities during wintertime;
 Courses and recreational activities such as drawing and music;
 Summer camp in July and August;
 Scout group “Bucurestii Noi 1”.
BENEFICIARIES
 Elderly people (every year ca. 150 elderly people receive material and financial
support);
 Needy families (every year ca. 100 families receive material and financial assistance);
 University students (every year ca. 20 students receive scholarships and/or hospitality
at our headquarters);
 Children (every summer ca. 40 children take part free of charge in our two-month
formative and recreational summer activities and ca. 40 children/kids take part in the
scout activities).

ALATURI DE BATRANI SI DE FAMILII:
With this project, Fundatia Bucurestii Noi aims to support alone and needy elderly people and
large families living in the neighbourhood.

When: monthly frequency , the project has been active for 15 years;
Beneficiaries: 25 elderly people (who receive a food box), 40 elderly people (who take part in
the recreational days), 100 families;
Activities:
1. Purchase, preparation and delivery of a food box;
2. Organization of a recreational day: liturgical rite at the Bucurestii Noi parish, lunch at
the headquarters, activities and team games;
3. Preparation and delivery of clothes boxes and first aid goods;
4. Preparation of writing materials boxes.
Where: Bucharest, headquarters of the Foundation;
Results:
1. Every month 25 elderly people receive a food box, which is likely to be their only
mean of maintenance. Many of them are very old people, left alone with motor
handicap.
2. Many people take part in the recreational days, ca. 40, been able to meet up and have a
chat with one another. Our recreational days offer a place to meet other people, to have
fun and to share ideas and memories.
3. At least twice a year 100 families receive a clothe box and first aid goods.
4. Every September 15 writing material boxes are delivered and during the year the
material is supplied again, when necessary.
5. Depending on the needing (births, losses, etc.) and on the occasion (Christmas, Easter,
birthdays, special occasions) boxes with clothes and first aid goods such as napkins,
creams and soaps are delivered.

MERGEM LA FACULTATE:
With this project, Fundatia Bucurestii Noi aims to support young people willing to attend
university but who cannot afford to pay the fees or the rent in the capital city, due to their
families’ economic difficulties.
Main financier : Il pozzo di Isacco NPO;
Other financiers : Bucurestii Noi parish, MASCI Jesolo;
When: six-month/yearly frequency, the project has been active for 10 years;
Beneficiaries: 30 young people (15 of them receive the scholarship and are hosted at the
headquarters of the Foundation, 15 of them just receive the scholarship);
Activities:
1. University fees payment;
2. Hospitality to the young people (they are hosted at our headquarters in double
rooms with bathroom and can use a kitchen and a common room);
Results:
1. Every year 30 young people get the chance to attend university and to obtain an
educational qualification which allows them to aim at a high-level job. The majority
comes from hard situations and their families go through heavy financial problems.
Many of them come from suburban areas and from the countryside.
INVATAM DISTRANDU-NE:
With this project, Fundatia Bucurestii Noi aims to offer an alternative to the empty afternoons
of many children who, once the school is over for summer, spend the whole summer watching
tv, playing with their computer or wandering in the streets, due to their families’ economic
difficulties. Fundatia Bucurestii Noi organizes in July and August a summer camp for children
and kids between 6 and 16 years. The activities are carried out during the day, from the
morning till the evening and the children are given lunch and a snack. The aim is to teach
children and kids culture and life values through the entertainment. Through formal and
informal educational activities children get to know nature and learn something about
pioneering, first aid and game team. They also learn values such as friendship, knowledge and
acceptance of the “other and different” and respect. The summer camp is open to all the
children that want to take part in it, without distinction of family status, religion or anything
else.

When: July and August, the project has been active for ca. 6 years;
Beneficiaries: 40 children/kids;
Other beneficiaries : the volunteers. Usually, international volunteers take part in the
activities, with the role of animators.
Activities:
1. Team games, attention training games, lap games, orienteering competitions;
2. Summer homework with the volunteers;
3. Lunch;
4. Services (each team, following some turns, will: set the tables for lunch, wash the
dishes, clean the garden and the common room, carry out the animation, write the
“logbook”);
5. Manual and recreational activities.
Results:
1. Every year 40 children/kids are given the chance to live a formative and
instructive experience, a good alternative to the television or the street. The
majority comes from hard situations and their families go through heavy financial
problems. However, children coming from well-off families attend the summer
camp as well.
2. Every year 40 children are granted a complete and balanced lunch, every day for 2
months.
3. Every year 40 children and 20 international volunteers get the chance to meet
and know new cultures and share ideas and opinions.
CERCETASII BUCURESTII NOI 1:
With this project, Fundatia Bucurestii Noi aims to financially support 10 children allowing
them to take part in the activities of the new scout group born in the 2012 in the Bucurestii
Noi parish. Scouting is based on a non-formal educational methodology which helps children
and kids to grow up in harmony with nature and with the community they live in. Taking part
in these activities is a great help for the children coming from families that cannot sustain
them in the recreational and instructive activities carried out by the school.

When: weekly meetings from September till June;
Beneficiaries: 10 children/kids;
Other beneficiaries: 20 children who take part in the activities;
Activities:
1. Team game, attention training games, lap games, orienteering competitions;
2. Two/three-day trips to the mountain;
3. Local projects (this year, the “wolves” have taken part twice in the creation and
distribution of food boxes to the elderly people);
4. Manual activities.
Results:
1. 10 children have taken part in the scout activities, in which they have learnt a lot
and they have created new friendship relations ;
2. A new non-formal educational activity has been created in the area of Bucurestii
Noi, many children and kids will be able to attend it starting from this year and in
the future.
OUR FUTURE PROJECTS:
From 1998 onwards, the number of beneficiaries of the projects of Fundatia Bucurestii Noi
has constantly grown. The areas of activity and the projects have grown as well. We hope we
can keep on carrying out all our 4 projects in the future:

3. Invatam distrandu-ne
4. Cercetasii Bucurestii Noi 1
Moreover, we wish to be able to increase the services we offer within each project:
1. ALATURI DE BATRANI SI DE FAMILIE:
 Aim I: increase the number of elderly people who receive assistance from 30 to
40;
 Aim II: better organize the recreational days, organizing at least 4 days per year
in March, April, May and June (keeping those already active: the “day of the ill”
and the patronal day of the parish, in which the beneficiaries of the Foundation
take part);
 Aim III: grant a shuttle bus service for elderly people between their home and
the parish, each Sunday morning, allowing them to attend mass (we have been
offering it since this year and those who have used it have been satisfied).
2. MERGEM LA FACULTATE:
 Aim I: increase the number of students who obtain our scholarships from 15 to
20;
 Aim II: deeper involve the students in the volunteering activities and make them
more responsible;
 Aim III: organize, at our headquarters, a dinner with all the students each
month.
3. INVATAM DISTRANDU-NE:
 Aim I: better structure the summer camp, granting it a 6-week length per year;
 Aim II: involve a bigger number of romanian and foreign volunteers.
 Aim III: create a “Fundatia Bucurestii Noi volunteers” club, granting a stable
flow of volunteers to the Foundation.
4. CERCETASII BUCURESTII NOI 1
 Aim I: increase the number of financially supported children and kids from 10 to
20, granting them with the equipment they need and the payment of the
membership fee;
 Aim II: deeper involve the scouts in the activities of the Foundation, particularly
in the “Alaturi de batrani si de familie” project.
In order to reach all our aims we mean to find as many sponsors as possible, to be able to
realize a stable centre where to settle our headquarters for the Fundatia Bucurestii Noi. At the
moment, the headquarters is in the Bucurestii Noi parish, thanks to the generosity of the
priest Martin Cabalas, who will soon retire and will not be able to grant the collaboration and
the headquarters.
