Blackwelder’s grounds will feature a combination of private courtyards accented by landmark art, site-specific landscaping and dedicated pedestrian paths to create a campus-like sense of community. Site amenities begin with the design of each individual space, and will include an eclectic range of architectural vernaculars, from purely industrial concrete block masonry and painted metal to steel frame and the more refined painted stucco. Original patinated facades also figure prominently throughout the creative complex, retaining the character and authenticity of this historic location. Each of Blackwelder’s 25 buildings are undergoing a comprehensive, eco-conscious remodel, with the focus on preserving the character of the individual structures, and integrating each into a unified environment. Noteworthy features include new mezzanines and second floors, roofs, metal framed windows, glass inset roll-up doors, redesigned entrances and envelope upgrades. This architectural design emphasis will result in a significantly revitalized and commercially viable creative use office and cultural complex. This new campus celebrates the historic industrial character of this strategically located site, while contributing to the area’s aesthetic image and economic growth.
