The five year contract was signed on behalf of KOC by CEO Hashem S. Hashem and on behalf of Baker Hughes by Imad Al-Ajmi, the company’s manager in Kuwait. 5 Campaign Awareness About Safe Driving 8 In a statement he delivered during the occasion, CEO Hashem said that Baker Hughes specializes in oil field services and that it has long been a major partner in the domain of developing oil production and ESP services. He upheld the contract as “very important” because Electrical Submersible Pumps are among the basic tools that KOC depends on for the sustainable production of oil wells. “Furthermore,” he said, “Baker Hughes has a program to train and develop young Kuwaiti engineers who are currently being trained throughout various installations.” Meanwhile, Al-Ajmi expressed satisfaction over the trust bestowed upon him by KOC and the signing of such an important contract. He emphasized that the partnership between both parties dates back several years and he upheld the contract as part of his company’s commitment to provide the best services in the domain of Electrical Submersible Pumps. NK Operations Group Reviews Achievements "Toward Achieving Strategic Goals" The NK Operations Group recently organized four presentations which covered the most outstanding achievements it has accomplished over the past year. The event took place at the Guest House in Ahmadi. (NK) Abdullah Al-Harbi with the participation of Snr. Planning Engineer Thamer Al-Khaldi, focused on performing periodic maintenance on GCs without altering production. The achievements included a Data Transfer Program and the means and programs adopted by the Group to accomplish the strategic goals of KOC. Topics included data exchange and best practices, and the remainder of the presentations were conducted by Snr. Planning Specialist Vaidiola Kumar, Snr. Environment Engineer Sayed Murtadha Al-Musawi and Chief Occupational Health Specialist Ali Hussain. The first presentation, conducted by Production Operations Group Manager Critical Legal Issues in Claims & Bidder Deviation Seminar Event seeks to raise legal awareness The Projects and Claims Team (Legal Affairs Group) recently conducted a seminar under the topic of “Critical Legal Issues in Claims & Bidder Deviation.” Senior Specialist Essam Amer and Senior Legal Advisor Ibrahim Clapp delivered the presentations. KOC employees representing the Contracts, Commercial Affairs and Legal 2 Affairs Groups took part in the event. The seminar seeks to deepen legal awareness about Critical Legal Issues in Claims & Bidder Deviation. At the close of the seminar, the presenters responded to the questions raised by the attendants about the subject matter. Engineers Recognized for Accomplishing Specialized International Course Al-Sumaiti: KOC keen on building human capacity KOC recently organized a special recognition ceremony for 18 engineers who completed two separate training courses in mechanical engineering at the Italian-based GE Oil & Gas Company and instrumentations at the USbased Emerson Process Management Company. The event was attended by DCEO (S&EK) Abdulla Al-Sumaiti, DCEO (A&F) Saad Al-Azmi, Manager Operations Group (EK) Hamed Al-Mutairi, Training & Career Development Manager Qusai Al-Amer and a number of Team Leaders, along with the trainees. In a speech he delivered on the occasion, Al-Sumaiti affirmed KOC’s commitment to building its human resources alongside the building of physical assets, in accordance with its strategy. He added that KOC’s training vision is to be the most recognized partner for achieving goals by ensuring excellence in talent management, contributing to create a culture that holds knowledge in high regard and creating a competent workforce that adds value to the Company and Kuwait. For his part, Al-Mutairi commended the role of all those who contributed to the success of the course, which he described as the first of its kind in the Company’s history. He noted that the two companies that have executed the training course contributed in tailoring a program consistent with KOC’s needs. In the same vein, Al-Azmi called on the trainees to share knowledge and experience acquired during the course with their colleagues to maximize the benefit. Speakers at the event included GE’s Maria Sferruzza and David Craft of Emerson Process Management. Trainees Anwar Mubarak and Maha Al-Houti spoke on behalf of their colleagues about the content of their respective courses and the experience acquired. 3 “KOC Knowledge Diwaniya” Atmosphere for interaction, sharing experiences Under the theme of “Knowledge Diwaniya,” the Knowledge Management Team of the Corporate Services Directorate (CS) arranged the first Knowledge Cafe in the presence of Management Support Group (MSG) Manager Shehab Abdulla. The Manager said that the event marks the beginning of a journey that the Company has embarked on in the domain of Knowledge Management. The workshop was conducted with the objective of bringing people across groups to share knowledge, network and learn from each other. While providing a brief introduction about the event, Engr. Rima Al-Awadhi, TL Knowledge Management, explained the process involved and the purpose behind embarking on this journey for the newly formed Knowledge Management Team. She emphasized the significance of getting people to come together to have an open and creative conversation on the topic. The event was facilitated by a DeBono certified facilitator. The “Six Thinking Hats” concept was introduced to the Diwaniya by Dr. Sunil Gupta. In closing, Al-Awadhi thanked the participants for their active involvement in the discussion and thanked the Community Services Team for their help and support. Manpower & Redeployment Team Organizes Workshop “Toward Better Service” The Manpower & Redeployment Team recently organized the “Toward Better Service” workshop, which had a stated aim of improving the team’s performance when dealing with HR and Planning Teams across the Company. The activities that are carried out by the Manpower & Redeployment Team were discussed, in addition to promotions, the five-year plan and the needs of fresh graduates and experts. Team Leader Adnan Al-Sabti expressed gratitude to the Manpower and Redeployment sections for their constant and constructive engagement, while stressing the importance of accelerating communication with the two teams. Numerous issues were discussed which concerned performance improvement so as to overcome challenges and build on successes toward better service. 4 KwIDF (WK) Phase II Review Workshop Event organized by R&T The Research & Technology Group recently organized a workshop aimed at reviewing the results of Phase II of the West Kuwait KwIDF project, which is centered on collaboration and integration of people, processes and technologies. The project has laid the baseline for the concept selection report in Phase 1 and project definitions in Phase II which seeks to reduce uncertainty and risks in the upcoming phase with regard to the engineering of a detailed design and implementation of the project. The event was attended by Group Manager Yousef Abdulrahman, Team Leader Exploration and Production Information Management Team, Hussein Al-Ajmi, R&T Subsurface Team Leader, Bader Al-Matar, along with a number of Team Leaders and employees within the WK Directorate. The project is expected to focus on intelligent well solutions, water flooding management, integration of an Asset Model, production loss management, H2S monitoring as well as find solutions for IT and IM architecture and collaboration center design. Presentation on Best Practice in Excavation Safety KNPC employees take part In the presence of Gas Operations Support Group Manager, Bader AlQaoud, the HSE Team (Gas) recently delivered a presentation on Best Practice in Excavation Safety which involved a number of KNPC staff. The event was also attended by Team Leader Majed Al-Mutairi, who stated in his speech that organizing such events represents an opportunity to share best practices and prevent excavation-related incidents. The workshop revolved around current challenges, best practices learned from a recent and related campaign run by the Company, and preventive systems. A visual presentation was screened which highlighted some of the excavation-related incidents, causes and means of preventing such occurrences. At the close of the workshop, the participants were briefed about excavation models made by certain contracting companies in coordination with the HSE Team (Gas). 5 Ahmadi Projects Group Organizes Awareness Sessions For contractors The HSE Team (Ahmadi Projects Group) recently organized a series of presentations which were aimed at creating awareness for contractors who work in coordination with both the Ahmadi Services and Ahmadi Projects Groups and their employees. The presentations were supervised by Planning Engineer & Data Analyst at the HSE Group (CS Directorate) Mohammad Abdul-Baset, and conducted by Snr. Safety Engineer Mohammad Al-Meligy and Safety Engineer S.V. Nathan and coordinated by Safety Officer Ejaz Ahmad. The presentations were comprised of a number of topics, including Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), Safety In Working Places, Safety During Drilling Operations, and Working At Heights. Snr. Safety Engineer Mohammad Al-Meligy told Energy that the presentations fall in line with KOC aspirations to provide the best performance by partners in the domain of HSE, to fill the gaps in the performance of contractors through data analysis, site inspections, revising contractors’ monthly performance reports, and to find positive solutions. Compensation Team Organizes Awareness Sessions Sessions Focus on SOP System The Compensation Team (HR Group) recently organized awareness sessions at the Unity Center for KOC employees of all levels under the supervision of Human Resources Manager Hassan Al-Kandari and Team Leader Compensation Hashim Al-Refai. The awareness sessions focused on the detailed explanation of the new SOP Automated System, the responsibilities of reviewers and assessors for the evaluation of the yearly performance standards, and the evaluation steps and procedures. The presentations were conducted by Chief Analyst Compensations Ghazi Al-Qabandi and Snr. System Administrator Reni Cyriac. Separate presentations were delivered to more than 1,000 employees, including Group Managers, Team Leaders, and employees from Grade 17 and below. This initiative was undertaken by the Compensation Team to ensure all evaluators are informed of the new SOP system and procedural responsibilities. 6 KOC Standards Team Organizes Presentation For the Engineering Standards Committee of KNPC The KOC Standards Team recently organized a presentation on Engineering Standardization Processes to the Engineering Standards Committee of KNPC. Hamzah Ahmad, Team Leader Standards, welcomed the delegation from KNPC and maintained that such a program serves as an initiative to share best practices with other K-Companies for their mutual benefit. The presentation detailed the standardization process being followed for the development and revision of KOC’s Engineering Standards & Recommended Practices. The presentation was followed by an interactive question and answer session. The Engineering Standards Committee (KNPC) expressed appreciation on behalf of KNPC and maintained that the KOC Standardization Process will definitely help KNPC enhance their current practices. Environmental Exhibition at Salma Bint Amees Elementary School KOC showcases recycling experience The Health, Safety and Environment (WK) and South & East (S&EK) Teams have recently participated in an environmental exhibition held at Salma Bint Amees Elementary School. Saeed Al-Hajri (Environment Engineer) presented a detailed explanation about KOC's environmental achievements in recycling. In addition, different models of recycling bins that were designed and manufactured in cooperation with Maintenance Services & Reliability (South & East Kuwait) Team were displayed. During the exhibition, booklets and brochures related to waste recycling and waste management were handed out. Follow Us: On Instagram - kocofficial On Twitter - @kocofficial On YouTube - KOCPRI 7 No. 654 16 February 2014 HSE Team Organizes Safe Driving Campaign "Zero Accidents, Zero Casualties" The HSE Team (CSD) recently organized a Safe-Driving Awareness Campaign at the KOC tent. The event was attended by a large number of the Directorate’s staff. In his opening speech, Acting APG Manager Ahmad Al-Fenaini reiterated the Group’s commitment to encourage all employees and contractors to do everything in their power to ensure zero accidents and zero casualties. “This is one event which has the potential to improve our HSE performance,” he said. On his side, HSE (CSD) TL Tareq Al-Kharraz hailed KOC employees and 8 contractors for their contribution to HSE as a whole and driving safety in particular. He maintained that the HSE team conducts various HSE awareness programs throughout the year and that these efforts will decrease accidents and incidents considerably in the long run. The event included a number of presentations conducted by specialized engineers about safe driving. This was followed by practical implementations on the Simulation Machine to demonstrate the hazards and dangers that could result from breaking speed limits while driving, neglecting the use of the safety belt and ignoring other traffic laws.
