On New “Distinction Center”
Project
The Mayor of the Dutch city of Rotterdam, Ahmad Abu
Taleb, recently expressed delight over his visit to the State
of Kuwait and hailed the current status of cooperation
between both countries in all domains, especially in the
economic field.
On the conclusion of his visit to the KOC Display Center
in the attendance of Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim
Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, the accompanying delegation and a
number of officials, Abu Taleb said that the State of Kuwait
plays an important role in the business sector of Holland due
to the activity of the Kuwaiti oil refinery in his city. He added
that further efforts were under way to enhance this role.

In a statement he made to Energy, Abu Taleb stated that the
Kuwaiti refinery in Rotterdam, in spite of its importance, was
of medium size and that his visit was intended to proceed
with talks he began in Kuwait last year on the expansion and
development of the refinery.
In response to a question about the possibility of twinning
the cities of Kuwait and Rotterdam, he affirmed that the
relations between both countries were strong and that both
sides were looking forward to a more advanced form of
cooperation while working together for their mutual benefit
and interest.

Commenting on the future of such cooperation, Abu Taleb
emphasized that numerous Kuwaiti students were enrolled
in universities throughout Holland and that some of them
were already back in Kuwait to share their expertise.
“Holland possesses extremely advanced possibilities in the
HSE sector, which it will be ready to discuss, in addition to
other important topics, during the expected visits by His
Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah and Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim
Al-Duaij Al-Sabah to Holland next year,” Abu Taleb said.

Rotterdam Mayor Ahmad Abu Taleb is an Arab Muslim of
Moroccan origin, born in Bani Cidal, Al-Nazour District, in
1961. He is a journalist and member of the Action Party of
Holland. He assumed his current post on January 5, 2009.

KOC CEO Affirms Commitment To Kuwait’s Environment
KOC recently won a worldrenowned award in recognition of its
environmental achievements, with a
particular focus on the establishment
of the KOC Marine Reserve.
The announcement was made
during a ceremony organized
in honor of the Lloyd’s List prize
winners in the Middle East and the
Indian Subcontinent for the year
2013, which took place recently in
Dubai, UAE. A large gathering of
government officials and regional
executives from the marine sector
and beyond were present during the
ceremony.

KPC Delegation Visits Burgan Oil Field
Presented with information about Production, Export Operations
A Kuwait Petroleum Corporation delegation recently paid a two day visit
to KOC oil production and export facilities at Burgan Oil Field, where
they became acquainted with oil production and export operations.
The KPC delegation, which was comprised of freshly graduated
petroleum engineers, listened to presentations on production and export
operations. The delegation also conducted a field tour of an oil well at
Gathering Center-7 on the second day.
The field visit was coordinated between the Export & Production
Operations and the Production Operations Team (SK).

Awareness Session on New “Distinction Center” Project Held
Enhancing Cooperation to Achieve 2030 Strategy
Sr. Petroleum Engineer Nadia Al-Zeabot recently conducted an awareness
presentation about a new “Distinction Center” project for the exploration and
production sector. The event took place at the Kuwait Foreign Petroleum
Exploration Company (KUFPEC).
Prepared in collaboration with Price Waterhouse Cooper consultants, the
presentation was attended by the Company’s CEO Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah,
his deputies and technical managers.
The project is intended to enhance the level of cooperation between KOC,
KUFPEC and KGOC by exchanging expertise and information in order to
efficiently achieve technical projects in conformity with the 2030 Strategy.
Questions after the presentation were answered by Collaborate
Relationships (Research and Development) TL Manna’a Al-Ajmi, and the
concerned parties agreed to meet to discuss the mechanism of nominating
technical consultants to form part of the Distinction Center, as a prelude to
enhance mutual cooperation culminating in the achievement of the 2030
Strategy.
Shell Organizes Learning Event
Effective Project Development Issues Covered
Shell recently shared its best practices with KOC by hosting a three-day
learning event on “Effective Front End Project Development”, which is
relevant to the implementation of KOC’s North Kuwait Jurassic Gas and
other mega projects.
The learning event introduced participants to tools, processes and
techniques to improve front end project developments, specifically related
to the implementation of Identification to Definition stages of the Project
Gate System. The course also highlighted the importance of front end
development for the successful delivery of the project.
During the event, Gas Projects Team Leader Abdullah Al-Mutairi spoke
about the importance of front end development and recommended that
the lessons learned from NKJG Phase-III FED be shared with other KOC
departments.
Shell Kuwait’s Country Chair Ahmad Atallah delivered opening remarks
during the course and highlighted the importance of spending adequate
time during front end stages to avoid unnecessary surprises during the
execution phase.

Exploration Operations Team
Conducts 5th “Lunch & Learn” Session
The Training Unit of the Exploration Operations Team recently conducted its fifth Lunch and
Learn session on seismic inversion techniques for unconventional Shale Gas in the attendance
of the Exploration Operations TL Khaled Shams Al-Deen.
The aim of the session was to transfer knowledge to geology and geophysics professionals in
specialized and other related areas.
The subject was presented by representatives of the CGG–Jason company currently working
with the Seismic Reservoir Properties Prediction (SRPP) Unit, a part of the Geophysical
Solutions Team within the Exploration Group.
The session consisted of four presentations dealing with the introduction of the theory
and general concepts of seismic inversion and petrophysical stochastic interpretation for
unconventional plays.
Later, Shale Gas Reservoirs were defined and two case studies on the seismic inversion
techniques for unconventional plays and its applicability were depicted.

Awareness Session for Drilling & W/O TS–II Team, Contractors
Organized by the Contracts Manpower Kuwaitization Team
The Contracts Manpower Kuwaitization (CMK) Team recently conducted an
awareness session for the Drilling & W/O TS–II Team and their Contractors. The
main objective of the awareness session was to shed light on the Kuwaitization
procedures and policies.
Presentations during the session were conducted by three members of the Contracts
Manpower Kuwaitization Team: Snr. Contracts Officer Jamila Abu Saleh, Contracts
Officer-I Salem Al-Otaibi, and Contracts Officer Amani Al-Khaldi.
Ag. TL CMK Dr. Osama Al-Juhaim responded to all inquiries raised by the contractors
who attended the presentation.
Dr. Al-Juhaim concluded the Awareness Session by thanking the attendees for their
interaction and emphasized that any written inquiry should be forwarded via the
Controlling Teams.
Awareness Presentations Held for Contractors, Employees
Organized by Ahmadi Services Group, Ahmadi Projects Group
The HSE Team of the Ahmadi Services Group recently organized a four
day series of awareness presentations at the Unity Center in Ahmadi for
contractors working with both the ASG and APG and their employees.
The presentations were supervised by HSE TL (CSD) Tareq Al-Kharraz,
and Planning Engineer & Data Analyst of the HSE Group (ASG) Mohammad
Abdul-Basit, conducted by Sr. Safety Engineer Mohammad Al-Meligy and
Safety Engineer S.V. Nathan, coordinated by Safety Officer Ejaz Ahmad
and attended by 50 employees.
The presentations consisted of a number of related topics, including:
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
• Excavation Procedures
• Working at Heights Procedures
Sr. Safety Engineer Mohammad Al-Meligy told Energy that the organization
of the series of presentations came in line with KOC’s aspirations for
better HSE performance by its business partners, and were aimed at
addressing the gaps of contractors based on the analysis of SVV findings,
site inspections and contractors’ monthly HSE performance reports. “This
will be a proactive measure with a positive solution for rectifications of the
gaps,” he added.

Leadership Training Program Held
KPI Team Organizes Event for Team Leaders
The KPI Team (T&CD Group) recently organized a training program on the
Transfer of Leadership Expertise for new Team Leaders. The event focused
on the mechanisms of dealing with the Group.
At the outset of the gathering, KPI TL Bashar Al-Khashti welcomed those in
attendance and wished them every success in their new missions.
Chief Training Officer Mohammad Al-Hajri then explained in detail the goals
of the program. This was followed by a workshop for new TLs to become
acquainted with the “coach theory.”
Presentations during the program were conducted by lecturers from the
Manpower Kuwaitization Team, Manpower & Transfer, Development &
Planning and KPI in charge of development plans for Team Leaders inside
Kuwait and abroad.
SPWLA Holds 2nd Topical Conference
The Kuwait chapter of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts
(SPWLA) recently held its second topical conference at the Regency Palace
Hotel in Kuwait. The conference, which was held under the theme of “From
Placement to Monitoring of Horizontal Wells” attracted a number of international
guests who also delivered their presentations to the audience.
Emad Sultan, DCEO (NK), was present at the conference and delivered the
opening remarks. During his speech, Sultan upheld the important role that
SPWLA plays in terms of organizing and sharing useful information for oil and
gas professionals. “Today’s methods of production,” he said, “require thorough
understanding of the fundamentals of wells, which this conference will, in part,

shed light on.”
Meanwhile, SPWLA-Kuwait Chapter President Salem Al-Sabea welcomed
the audience and visiting guests to the conference before giving the floor to
the SPWLA President and Conference Chairman, Elton Frost Jr., who spoke
about SPWLA’s origins and its journey to become one of the world’s largest
professional organizations of oil and gas professionals.
During the conference, speakers from KOC and abroad discussed a number
of industry topics, including well planning, drilling practices for risk reduction,
geomechanics, mud logging and geosteering, LWD formation evaluation and
completion and production monitoring.
Ahmadi Hospital Staff Honor Qusai Al-Amer
Promotion to T&CD Group Manager
Ahmadi Hospital staff recently organized an honoring and farewell party for the
Support Services TL Qusai Al-Amer on the occasion of being promoted to the
post of Training & Career Development Manager.
Medical Support Services Chair Dr. Khaled Suweilem delivered a speech
hailing the good services of Al-Amer and his keenness to work with a sense of
teamwork in a place like Ahmadi Hospital, where relations between doctors,
patients and administrators are so interrelated.
In his speech, Al-Amer thanked those in attendance for their generosity and
described the gesture as “an indication of the firm links between the honored
person and his colleagues and friends.”
Meanwhile, Firefighting TL Ali Al-Bairami spoke about several distinguished
traits of Al-Amer, who was then presented with a commemorative shield and
gifts offered by his colleagues.

Ahmadi Hospital Organises Blood Donation Campaign
Al-Abbasi: Blood Donation is a Noble Humanitarian Cause
Ahmadi Hospital recently organized its Annual Blood Donation Campaign in
collaboration with the Kuwait Central Blood Bank. Ag. Ahmadi Hospital Director, Dr.
Aref Al-Abbasi, oversaw the event, which attracted a large number of employees.
Dr. Al-Abbasi emphasized that the organization of this yearly campaign was intended
to help the Blood Bank cope with the needs of hospitals, especially after surgeries,
accidents and emergencies.
“Blood donation has a noble humanitarian goal because the donor, by giving his or
blood, saves the life of a person unknown to him but who badly needs blood,” he said.
Dr. Al-Abbasi maintained that the donated blood is transferred to the Kuwait Central
Blood Bank and that, during the usual blood tests, the donor may discover that he or
she is not able to donate because of some health problems, which in turn is a benefit
for them because it serves as a preventative check.
Ahmadi Hospital, a pioneer in such humanitarian efforts, is one of the first ten partners
of the Kuwait Central Blood Bank, which also responds to the hospital’s needs in
emergency cases.
