24th July – 2nd August 2015 / Fashion Cultures returns to the Merchant City Festival with an exciting programme dedicated to the tools of adornment: perfume, hair, make-up and all things beauty related. The programme is a celebration of the role that perfume, hair and make-up play within the culture of Glasgow, the pleasure that people take in dressing up and going out, as well as the politics of adornment and enhancement. fashioncultures.org / @FCultures 1. 2. 5. 4. 3. 9. 8. 7. No consultation, no negotiation, no substitutions – just pick the cut, get it done and go. Hair Cut Fashion, will recreate this experience, with the hair cut ‘menu’ taken from drawings by Sophie Macpherson and the cuts undertaken by Leigh Ferguson. Hairstylist, Leigh Ferguson works at the intersection of art and design, through her vocal, instrumental, and harmonic work as well as her collaborative ventures with other artists, musicians and clients. Sophie Macpherson makes films, live events, objects and drawings. Her practice often draws on personal records to investigate subtle communications informing our notions of identity. This installation revisits The Cutting Station, which was shown at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow in 2009. leighferguson.com sophie Macpherson.net TRAMWAY, 25 ALBERT DRIVE, GLASGOW G41 2PE Sunday 26th July, 2.00pm – 3.30pm Soft Focus Fiona Jardine — Talk Open to all / Free! / Book your place at softfocus.eventbrite.co.uk From Vaseline on the lens to Photoshop, in association with Panel, Fiona Jardine, Sophie Dyer and Maeve Redmond, this event will examine the politics of photographic enhancements within advertising from the 1950s to the present day.
