Can You Dig It Goes Indoors!
For young gardeners, the growing season
is never over. Once a month, experiment
with indoor plants, make garden or
nature crafts, see how plant parts and

grades 2-6 exclusively.

Story Times In Our Community
Join us at a perfect place for an artsy story time during the Ephrata
Arts & Crafts Festival at Squeeze Spot, located on Main Street in
Ephrata.Wear old clothes or bring a smock, it will be artsy! Ages 4-8.

Cookie Exchange Special Edition
Join an Ephrata Public Library tradition – baking
and exchanging cookies with friends at the
Library. Participants bring 2-1/2 dozen cookies to
share, along with an empty container for collecting
exchanged cookies. The results – a bounty of
holiday cookies to serve at your family’s holiday
gatherings. Cooking partners will bake two fresh
batches of cookies to add to the merriment.

Our Family Place Parent/Child Workshop series is for
parents or caregivers along with their toddlers.This familyfriendly setting, equipped with age-appropriate toys, books and

As Carl does in the story, we’ll seize our opportunity to make change in our
community. What changes would you like to see? We’ll make and sign mock
petitions together. Ages 8-11 with parents.

Go back in time and enact short scripts that depict various problems the
colonists had before the Constitution was written! Learn more about our Bill
of Rights in this fun theatrical reading session. Ages 8-11.

The Constitution Challenge
Test your civics knowledge on our freedoms and engage in high-energy interactive games from the computer screen to the floorboard in teams! Ages 11-18.

Design-It-Yourself Banned Book Covers
“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “The Giver” are examples of hundreds
of challenged and banned books across the globe. Nix censorship and exercise your freedom to read and make art! Design and create your own handillustrated book cover of your favorite banned or censored book with a pen
and ink, color pencil, collage material and watercolors. We’ll exhibit them
throughout the Library. Each submission is also an entry to win a Banned
Book prize pack, including an Amazon gift card. Ages 11-18.

The Library wants to spread holiday cheer throughout the community! Join us
to make holiday pop-up cards that will be distributed to residents of Maple
Farm, a local retirement community in Akron.All ages are welcome.All program
attendees are invited to join Library staff in December to deliver the handmade
cards at Maple Farm.

Sew Your Own Holiday Feltie
Whether you have little or lots of experience with hand and machine sewing,
this holiday crafting session is for you. We’ll meet you at your own skill level to
create a brightly-colored felt ornament with just enough stuffing and doodads to

The Holiday Season Around the World
We have just finished celebrating the holidays with all its many traditions, but
have you ever wondered how people of other cultures celebrate the holiday
season? Join us to learn about several holiday traditions around the world, including a craft and a traditional holiday treat. Ages 6-10.

This 8-week class for children ages 6 months-5 years will teach you over
100 signs to use with your child. In a playful, educational and language-rich

with Author Janice Ballenger
Janice Ballenger will discuss her role as a volunteer EMT and
a Deputy Coroner for the County of Lancaster, offering
hope to all.As the first female Deputy Coroner for the
county, Ballenger was thrust into the national spotlight when
she responded to the Nickel Mines Amish school tragedy.
Ten young Amish girls were shot, execution style, with five
dying, along with the shooter taking his own life. She turned
to writing her book of memoirs, covering many subjects, to
stop her mind from revisiting the scene she witnessed i
nside the school. Her book,“Addicted to Life & Death:
Memoirs of an EMT & Deputy Coroner” will be available
for purchase and signing.

An Exhibition
In partnership with The Retreat of Lancaster’s art therapy program, view
creations that show the ugly side of addiction and the recovery/path to
hope. Audiences will engage in the art, feel the struggle and understand
the success of recovery through art therapy.

This panel discussion, featuring the Retreat’s Dr. Joseph Troncale and Jack
Sodak, will explore the genetic nature of addiction. Additionally, these presenters will discuss warning signs of addiction and will review strategies that
family members can utilize to help an addicted family member, including
treatment options.There will be a Q&A time at the end of the panel discussion during which the public can ask their questions and share their stories.
