In collaboration with Fulbrighters Portugal (the alumni association), the US Embassy, EducationUSA an other partner institutions, numerous activities were organized. In November 2012, the Commission hosted its traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, having as keynote speaker US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Lucy Tamlyn. Held at Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo, in Lisbon, it proved to be, once again, an excellent occasion to gather all the Portuguese grantees recently selected, the American grantees in Portugal, alumni, stakeholders and friends of the Fulbright Program. In early January 2013, the second Fulbright Annual Forum took place. Several grantees said yes to the Commission’s challenge to speak about merit, opportunity and initiative in Portugal and in the US and profited from the chance to connect and share experiences and ideas. In March 2013, Fulbright has held a booth in Futurália, the largest educational fair in Portugal. From March to September, the Fulbright Alumni Conferences provided important networking opportunities and were used to promote the Fulbright Program. The conferences featured prominent Portuguese Fulbright Alumni (João Lobo Antunes, António Borges, Rui Vieira Nery, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Isabel Capeloa Gil), who debated contemporary issues and the general topic of the future of Portugal. As one of the partner institutions responsible for the creation of Study in Portugal, a joint-venture established with the objective of promoting Portugal as an attractive destination for US Students, Fulbright helped organized and participated in the delegation of Portuguese universities and other institutions that represented Portugal at the NAFSA Conference and Expo that took place in late May in Saint Louis, Missouri. The Fulbright Information Center (FIC), a US State Department affiliated advising center part of the EducationUSA network that strives to provide accurate, comprehensive, current, and unbiased information on education in the United States, also continued to contribute to the promotion of the good image of Fulbright within Portuguese academia, secondary educators and high school, undergraduate and graduate students, by promoting regular outreach initiatives. In particular, these initiatives included the organization of workshops on essay writing, information sessions about study programs in the US (namely at “This is America”, promoted by AmCham, and at the US Embassy youth summer camp) and several webinars on different topics, including one about LL.M. programs in the US, with the University of Washington in St. Louis. 7 8 Program Report Appendices Board of Directors The composition of the Board, as of September 30, 2013, is as follows: Representatives of the US Government: Ms. Virginia L.
