NIOSA celebra 68 años de
legado cultural en San Antonio

Más de 85 mil personas se
dieron cita al evento anual de “A
Night In Old San Antonio”, que
se llevó a cabo en La Villita esta
semana.
El festival, mejor conocido
como NIOSA, comenzó el martes
19 de abril y concluyó el viernes
22 de abril para celebrar el diverso
legado cultural de la ciudad, con el
fin de recaudar fondos para benefi­
ciar a la Sociedad de Conservación
de San Antonio.
Es uno de los eventos más anti­
guos de Fiesta San Antonio. NIO­
SA es famoso por su selección de
más de 250 estaciones de comida,
bebidas, música en vivo en 12
escenarios, juegos para niños y,
por supuesto, su ambiente alegre.
Dividido en 15 secciones para
representar toda la diversidad en
la ciudad, las personas pudieron
recorrer áreas que celebraron la
cultura de diversos países, como
Mexico, China, Francia e Irlanda.
La gran oferta de comida incluyó
desde los jalapeños fritos y las
famosas “tortillas de María” hasta
escargot, frog legs y frito pie.
Para la actual presidenta de
NIOSA, Patti Zaiontz, el evento
se ha convertido en una tradición
familiar en San Antonio y explica
por qué se ha convertido en uno de
los eventos más popular de Fiesta.
“Es como una reunión fami­
liar. En NIOSA siempre se podrá
encontrar buena comida, entre­
tenimiento maravilloso y bebidas
para disfrutar con la familia y
amigos”, comentó Zaiontz a La
Prensa. “Es un festival cultural y
enfoca las diferentes culturas que
se establecieron en san Antonio
desde el principio. Yo creo que es
un reflejo de lo que hacemos en
San Antonio como una ciudad”.
Este año, 13 mil voluntarios
contribuyeron más de 138 mil
horas para que NIOSA se pudiera
realizar con éxito. Gracias al
apoyo de los voluntarios, Zaiontz
estima que NIOSA se ahorra más
de 3 millones de dólares, por lo
que les ayuda a continuar con
su trabajo de conservación en la
comunidad.
Reconocido como el principal
recaudador de fondos en conserva­
ción histórica en la nación, NIOSA
le hace honor a su lema como una
“Celebración para Conservación”.
Asimismo, el Comité de NIOSA le
puede presentar a la Sociedad de
Conservación de San Antonio más
de 1.2 millones de dólares cada
año en ganancias para continuar
financiando la preservación de
propiedades históricas, recorridos
y programas educativos.
“San Antonio cree en nuestra
causa, en la preservación, y es por
eso que NIOSA es tan exitoso año
tras año”, agregó Zaiontz. “Hemos
estado haciendo esto durante 68
años y los fondos que recaudamos
se regresan a la comunidad en
programas maravillosos”.
El impacto de NIOSA asciende
a 1.3 millones de dólares, con
pagos de más de 511 mil dólares
hechos a la ciudad en alquiler,
cuotas, permisos y más de 800 mil
dólares a proveedores y entreten­
imiento local.

Driving can become a difficult
task once you reach a certain age,
especially when you are an older
senior citizen. In Bexar County
alone, there are hundreds of
seniors currently in need of trans­
portation services to accomplish
important tasks, such as going
grocery shopping or attending
their doctor’s appointments.
One of those senior citizens
is 89-year-old Isabel F. Ochoa,
who enjoys cooking, crocheting
and gardening while she is at
home. When she is outside of her
comfortable quarters, she enjoys
spending time with her family.
Once her husband passed away,
Ochoa could not leave her home
because she had no one to take
care of her, leaving her afraid to
ask for help. She did not want
to be a needy friend, leaving her
quarantined for a period of time.
“My son could take me to some
places, but not for long because
he had his own schedule… A lot
of my friends also passed away…

Thanks to a Drive A Senior
SA, Ochoa was able to find a
solution to her problem. Drive A
Senior SA, a campaign dedicated
to find volunteers drivers to help
senior citizens get around Bexar
County, local organizations,
including Northeast Senior Assi­
tance (NESA), are able to provide
transportation services to seniors
like Ochoa.
Before she discovered NESA’s
Drive A Senior project, Ochoa
felt isolated. This new transpor­
tation alternative gave her the
opportunity to fulfill errands, but
most importantly, build connec­
tions with others.

Tres maneras inteligentes de utilizar su reembolso de impuestos

De acuerdo con el IRS, el pro­
medio de reembolso de impuestos
en el 2015 fue aproximadamente de
$2,800 y se espera que los reembol­
sos sean similares en el 2016.
Para los que recibieron un reem­
bolso, hay muchas opciones a tener
en cuenta para saber qué hacer con
este ingreso inesperado. La gran
pregunta es ¿cuál es la opción más
inteligente?
Si bien es posible que desee
derrochar su reembolso, es un
movimiento financiero inteligente
el manejar de manera cuidadosa la
mayoría de los fondos. Un reem­
bolso de impuestos o cualquier in­
greso inesperado se pueden utilizar
para ayudar a alcanzar sus objetivos
financieros sin afectar el nivel de
vida actual.
Massachusetts Mutual Life In­
surance Company (MassMutual)
sugiere tres cosas a tener en cuenta
para el reembolso de impuestos de
este año:
1. Pague la deuda. Revise su
deuda actual. Determine cuál tiene
la tasa de interés más alta y considere
pagar ésta primero para ayudar a pre­
venir que el interés se siga sumando.
Otra estrategia común es pagar su
deuda más pequeña primero, y luego
trabaje para pagar las más grandes.
2. Construya un fondo de emergencia. Considere el uso de al me­
nos una parte de su reembolso de
impuestos para fortalecer su fondo
de emergencia. Determine el obje­
tivo de ahorrar para pagar el costo de
sus gastos en efectivo por tres a seis
meses en un fondo de emergencia
que pueda acceder fácilmente si es
necesario, tal como una cuenta de
ahorros, y utilice su reembolso para
cumplir ese objetivo.
Curiosamente, un estudio encar­
gado por MassMutual en el 2015
reveló que casi la mitad (45 por
ciento) de los latinos se apoyan en
sus cuentas de ahorro en momentos
de necesidad.
3. Pague su futuro por adelan­
tado. La buena noticia es que los
estadounidenses están viviendo
por más tiempo. El reto es que la
salud puede cambiar con la edad,
y la gente ahora se enfrenta con la
situación que tienen que ahorrar
para un período de jubilación de
hasta 30 años.
Así que si usted no ha empezado
a ahorrar o quiere aumentar sus
ahorros de jubilación, considere la
posibilidad de utilizar su reembolso
en un plan de ahorro para la jubi­
lación. También puede considerar
la utilización de una porción de su
reembolso para la educación supe­
rior – para usted, un hijo o un ñieto.

El mariachi Palomino inter­
pretó una serie de canciones
rancheras para crear un ambiente
festivo que acompaña desde hace
15 años a este evento de Fiesta.
Para concluir el acto inaugural
fue presentada la corte real de
Palo Alto con Gilbert Silva como
Rey y Ariel Herrera como Reina
de Palo Alto. Los niños Adreena
Settlers y Darren Bonilla fueron
presentados como príncipes de
PACfest.
En el escenario musical di­
virtieron a la asistencia los con­
juntos Space Rockets, Chisme/
Timstub, Chris Saucedo, Los
Masters Plus y A.J. Castillo. Los
asistentes también pudieron dis­
frutar del tercer concurso anual
de carne asada “Fiesta Grilldown
Carne Asada Contest”, además de
juegos para niños y un show de
fuegos pirotécnicos en la noche.

Falling prevention
The Centers for Disease Con­
trol (CDC) reports that each year,
one in every three adults age 65
and older falls.
Falls can cause moderate to
severe injuries, such as hip frac­
tures and head traumas, and can
increase the risk of early death.
They are also the primary cause of
traumatic brain injury for people
of all ages.
When a senior sustains a trau­
matic brain injury in a fall, direct
effects of the injury may result
in long-term cognitive changes,
reduced ability to function and
changes in emotional health.
• People with dementia are
at increased risk of falls due to
such conditions as neurological
impairments in perception or
cognition and changes in motor
function, stance or gait, which
can lead to progressive loss of
physical functioning. Falls may
occur with or without injury and
often result from a loss of balance.
The consequences of falls include
broken bones and bruises, concus­
sions and fear of falling that can
limit a resident’s willingness and
ability to stay mobile.
• The available intervention
literature on falls shows that those
programs that rely on individual
assessment of residents’ abilities
and needs to develop care plans
that address the particular causes
of falls are most successful in
preventing these incidents and
related injuries. Assessment and
planning must take into account
the residents’ remaining cognitive
skills because adherence to inter­
ventions such as exercise plans
becomes more difficult as the
severity of impairment increases.
More studies are needed on effec­
tive interventions to prevent falls
for those with cognitive impair­
ments in residential long term
care settings.
Risk of falls
• Falls are associated with a
variety of contributing factors,
some of which are characteristics
of the individual, and some of
which are characteristics of the
environment.
• Individual risk factors include
depression, fatigue, a history
of falls, postural hypotension,
incontinence and prolonged im­
mobility.
• Environmental risk conditions
include such things as:
• Confusing environment and
clutter.
• Inadequate cueing, such as
posting unclear or confusing di­
rectional signs.
• Improper footwear.
• Unsafe equipment.
• Lack of stable furniture or
handrails to steady oneself.
• Floors or grounds that are
uneven, slippery or have glare.
• Inadequate lighting.
• Weather conditions that may
result in such problems as slip­
pery surfaces, perceptual difficul­
ties or heat exhaustion.
• Use of certain medications
may increase risk of falls by
contributing to such conditions
as fatigue or confusion, percep­
tual disturbances, dizziness and
altered muscle tone. Caution
should be used when considering
new medications or changes in
medication.
• Note : Sleep medications,
tranquilizers, anti-anxiety medi­
cations, narcotics and certain
anti-hypertensives are among
the drug classes most commonly
associated with increased risk
of falls.
Preventing falls in people
with Alzheimer’s disease or
other dementias
• Reduce clutter and confusion
in the person’s surroundings, be
sure there is no glare on floors and
remove rugs that a person could
trip over.
• Use signage to mark the bath­
room and distinguish it from clos­
ets, and disguise off-limits loca­
tions by painting or wallpapering
doors to match walls, or making
the area in front of doors dark
(to appear to be holes, which the
person will instinctively avoid).
• Remove obstacles from paths
within the house, especially be­
tween the bed and the bathroom.
• Move and/or secure throw
rugs and electrical cords and wires
or other potential tripping hazards.
• Ensure that lighting is bright
and does not cast a glare on the
floors. Keep nightlights in bed­
rooms, bathrooms and hallways
between the bedroom and bath­
room.
• Provide significant contrast
between the bathroom toilet and
sink from the wall and the floor.
• Install non-slip flooring in
bathrooms.
• Place a sticker or tape a picture
onto large plate glass windows
so that a person with visual or
spatial impairment does not run
into them.
• Be sure that stairs have sturdy
steps and hand rails. If stairs are
carpeted, be sure carpet is firmly
attached to every step. Steps can
be highlighted with contrasting
tape.
• Check to be sure that all foot­
wear, including bedroom slippers,
fits well and does not present a
tripping hazard.
How can the older adults
prevent falls?
• According to the U.S. Pre­
ventative Services Task Force
Recommendation Statement,
older adults can take steps to stay
more independent and reduce
their chances of falling. Many of
these approaches can be applied or
adapted for people with dementia,
but it is important to make the
appropriate adaptations for each
person’s unique abilities. The
general recommendations suggest
that they:
• Exercise regularly. It is im­
portant that the exercises focus
on increasing leg strength and
improving balance, and that they
get more challenging over time.
Tai Chi programs are especially
good.
Note: It is critical to adapt ex­
ercise programs to the individual
capabilities, as neglecting to do
so may actually increase the risk
of falls.
• Consult with their doctor or
pharmacist to review their medi­
cines — both prescription and
over-the counter — to identify
medicines that may cause side
effects or interactions such as
dizziness or drowsiness.
• Have their eyes checked by
an eye doctor at least once a year
and update their eyeglasses to
maximize their vision. Consider
getting a pair with single vision
distance lenses for some activities
such as walking outside.
• Have their homes made safer
by reducing tripping hazards, add­
ing grab bars inside and outside
the tub or shower and next to the
toilet, adding railings on both
sides of stairways and improving

the lighting in their homes.
• To lower their hip fracture
risk, older adults can:
• Get adequate calcium and
vitamin D — from food and/or
from supplements.
• Do weight bearing exercise.
• Get screened and, if needed,
treated for osteoporosis.

grupo de estudiantes al llegar a la
Universidad Iberoamericana en la
Ciudad de México.
Todos sabían a qué me refería.
Un par de dedos índices me apun­
taron en la dirección correcta.
Entré al baño como antropólogo,
buscando señales de otras épocas
y simbolismos perdidos. Pero,
solo encontré urinales limpios
y lavabos que relucían. Hice lo
que tenía que hacer y luego me
le quedé viendo al espejo.
Hacía 34 años que no regresaba
a la universidad. Pero fue ahí
donde me gradué en 1982. Bueno,
no exactamente ahí. La universi­
dad donde estudié se cayó duran­
te el terremoto de 1979 y llegué
a unas nuevas y ultramoder­nas
instalaciones en otra parte de la
ciudad. La Iberoamericana me
preparó bien para cuestionarlo
todo y su lema “La verdad nos
hará libres” es un monumento
(y un gran reto) para cualquier
estudiante de periodismo.
Regresé a la Ibero para presen­
tar mi nuevo libro, “Sin Miedo:
Lecciones de Rebeldes y Podero­
sos” (y perdón por el comercial).
Pero no me pude resistir a pre­
guntarles a maestros y estudiantes
sobre un hecho fundamental para
entender el tipo de presidente que
tiene México.
Hay gestos que delatan. Cuan­
do Enrique Peña Nieto era candi­
dato a la presidencia por el Par­
tido Revolucionario Institucional
fue a dar un discurso al auditorio
de la Universidad Iberoamericana
en mayo del 2012, un par de
meses antes de unas polémicas
elecciones. Tras su discurso
varios estudiantes comenzaron a
protestar, con gritos y pancartas,
y el asustado candidato, en lugar
de iniciar un diálogo con jóvenes
cómo él, salió con su equipo de
seguridad y se fue a esconder a
un baño.
El entonces presidente de PRI
dijo, falsamente, que las protestas
habían sido realizadas por “un
grupo entrenado, no por estudian­
tes del plantel. Mentía. Ciento
treinta y uno de los manifestantes
respondieron en las redes sociales
mostrando sus credenciales de
la Ibero y, poco después, surgió
el movimiento Yo Soy 132 (en
apoyo a esos estudiantes y con
una agenda cívica).
Muchos mexicanos no supie­
ron interpretar antes de las elec­
ciones lo que había ocurrido en
ese baño. Pero estaban frente a un
político que, en lugar de enfrentar
los problemas, se escondía. Y así
ha sido también su presidencia.
Cuatro ejemplos:
1. Ante las denuncias
de corrupción por la Casa
Blanca”mexicana que su es­
posa le compró por 7 millones
de dólares a un contratista gu­
bernamental, Peña Nieto dejó
que Angélica Rivera hablara en
un video casero. El no dio la cara.
Y luego puso a un colaborador,
Virgilio Andrade, a defenderlo.
2. Ante la desaparición de 43
jóvenes de Ayotzinapa en 2014,
el presidente se tardó 10 días en
hablar públicamente del asunto,
un mes en recibir a los familiares
de las víctimas y aún no ha ido
al lugar de los hechos. Un año y
medio después, Peña Nieto no
tiene respuestas creíbles. Pero se
resiste a que investigadores inter­
nacionales se encarguen del caso.

Trump sigue burlándose del go­
bierno mexicano en sus discursos.
4. Y ante los 52 mil muertos
(homicidios dolosos) en los pri­
meros tres años de su gobierno, la
política oficial es ignorar el asun­
to. Peña Nieto no habla de eso.
Sin embargo, su sexenio podría
convertirse en el más violento en
la historia moderna de México.
La impunidad, los ataques a
periodistas y las violaciones a
los derechos humanos son una
constante. Un nuevo video en
redes sociales muestra cómo dos
soldados y un policía federal
torturan a una mujer.
La verdad es que Peña Nieto es
un presidente que se ha resistido
a una seria rendición de cuentas.
Desde que llegó al poder no ha
dado una sola conferencia de
prensa. Le teme a las preguntas
o, quizás, se quedó sin respuestas.
Los mexicanos ya se cansaron
de un presidente que se desapa­
rece y se lo están cobrando. Los
memes en las redes sociales son
brutales. Y el 66 por ciento de los
mexicanos tiene una opinión neg­
ativa de su gobierno, según una
encuesta del diario Reforma. Es
el nivel más bajo de su mandato.
Estoy muy orgulloso de los
estudiantes de mi universidad.
Vieron lo que otros mexicanos no
pudieron ver. Y hoy esa actitud
vigilante, inteligente e inquisitiva
sigue presente.
Antes de salir del baño de la
Ibero, me le quedé viendo al
espejo, grande, que no perdona.
Ahí, pensé, quedó reflejado el
miedo del candidato que se
quiso esconder. Hay personas que
nunca cambian. Hay imágenes
que nunca se borran.

Just a Thought: San Antonio Hispanics contribute
Although
the majority
of Hispanics
living in San
Antonio are
of Mexican
descent, there

representing the city’s Latino
population.
According to the 2010 U.S.
Census, people of Mexican ori­
gin make up 91.3 percent of San
Antonio’s Hispanic population,
which totals 1,035,000.
Making up the rest are Puerto
Ricans, with 1.5 percent of the
local Hispanic population, and
other groups, including those
of Cuban and South American
ancestry, making up an additional
3.9 percent.
Nationally, people of Mexican
ancestry make up the largest per­
centage of the country’s Hispanic
population, with 63 percent of
the total Latino population in the
United States, according to the
latest census figures. Hispanics
of Mexican, Puerto Rican and
Cuban descent remain the coun­
try’s three largest Latino groups.
When you look at the current
San Antonio City Council you
see six Hispanics representing
various parts of town to include
the West Side, South Side and
North Side. In District 1, you
have Roberto Trevino; District
3, Rebecca Viagran; District 4,
Rey Saldana; District 5, Shirley
Gonzales; District 6, Ray Lopez
and District, 7 Cris Medina. They
include an architect, business
owners, a former Northside ISD
School Board president and an
Air Force Reserve officer.
Two of the five serving on
Commissioner’s Court include
long time Pct. 2 Commissioner
Paul Elizondo, who was a former
high school band director for
many years, and Pct. 1 Commis­
sioner Chico Rodriguez, whose
brother Ciro Rodriguez is a
former Congressman and current
Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace.
Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson,
the current president of Texas
A&M University San Antonio,
is a native born San Antonian
who is also the second president
of the campus, following Dr.
Maria Ferrier who received her
master’s degree from Our Lady
of the Lake.
Both Dr. Teniente-Matson and
Dr. Ferrier have been instrumen­
tal in increasing educational op­
portunities for not only Hispanic
students, but all students to earn
degrees and make a better life
for themselves and their families.
Recently selected SAISD Su­
perintendent Pedro Martinez is
already raising the bar for the
largest school district in San
Antonio to ensure higher tests
scores. Before coming to San
Antonio, he was superintendentin-residence for the Nevada De­
partment of Education in Reno,
Nevada and was responsible for
advising the governor’s office
and the state superintendent of
instruction on education policy
decisions.
Currently in the midst of the
presidential cycle, rumors are
flying about a possible Hispanic
Vice Presidential candidate being
picked for the Democratic ticket.
San Antonio’s own former
Mayor and current HUD Sec­
retary Julian Castro’s name has
been mentioned by Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton as being on
her short list of VP candidates
should she be nominated.
Imagine if that happened, and
the first Hispanic vice president
of the United States was from
San Antonio. It could happen and
that would put the Alamo City
Hispanic community once again
in the spotlight. What a thought!

Modernizar a las elecciones primarias

Durante las últimas semanas,
se ha dicho mucho de la falta de
democratización en el proceso
de las elecciones primarias. Sin
embargo, con todos los problemas
que se visualiza en su interior, la
forma de elección en base a un
Sistema de Delegados es la menos
problemática de todo el continente
americano.
En otros sistemas políticos,
como en la mayoría de los países
latinoamericanos, los dirigentes
de los partidos políticos eligen
al candidato de su preferencia de
acuerdo a sus propios criterios y
caprichos.
En algunos casos no existe
ningún un mecanismo de control.
Los presidentes nombran a sus
propios sucesores. En este sentido,
el “dedazo” de México fue, en su
momento, una de las formas más
claras de nepotismo y corrupción
alrededor del nombramiento del
líder más importante de este país.
Hoy, este tipo de nombramien­
tos ha desaparecido, pero otras
prácticas similares al “dedazo”
todavía permean el nombramiento
de dirigentes políticos en México.
En otros casos como en Cuba,
la dirigencia política y, por ende,
el liderazgo de este país es trans­
ferido de un pariente a otro. Fidel
Castro le otorgó a su hermano Raúl
la “comandancia” de su país, a
pesar de que había personas más
capacitadas para ejercer este rol.
En Argentina, el expresidente
Néstor Carlos Kirchner dejó el
camino despejado para que su
esposa, Cristina Fernández de
Kirchner, tome la batuta de su
partido político. Con el apoyo de la
maquinaria política de su esposo, a
Cristina se le fue más fácil llegar a
la Casa Rosada.
En este sentido y contrario a lo
que sucede en América Latina,
el Sistema de Delegados por lo
menos permite la participación de
una parte del electorado nacional
(demócrata y republicano) en la
elección del candidato oficial a la
presidencia.
El electorado del Partido
Demócrata o Republicano elige
indirectamente a su candidato
presidencial por medio de eleccio­
nes internas y caucus. En el peor de
los casos, el nombramiento lo ha­
cen sus dirigentes políticos como
sucedió en Colorado y Wyoming.
Los delegados son elegidos de
la siguiente manera. En el caso del
Partido Demócrata, de un total de
4.766 delegados, 4.051 son elegi­
dos por el electorado demócrata;
es decir 85% provie­nen a través de
la venia de los votantes. Mientras
que 715 dele­gados (15%) toman
el nombre de “Superdelegados”,
quienes son personas afiliadas a
la dirigencia del partido político o
fueron personajes importantes en
el pasado.
Es decir, de los 715 superdele­
gados, 434 pertenecen al Comité
Nacional del Partido Demócrata;
20 son líderes distinguidos, como
expresidentes, vicepresidentes, ex­
líderes congresistas y exdirigentes;
193 miembros de la Cámara de
Representantes del Congreso; 47
miembros del Senado; 21 goberna­
dores pertenecientes a este partido
político.
El Partido Republicano funciona
de una manera similar, aunque
confieren un número menor de
delegados por estado.
Sin embargo, el Sistema de Del­
egados es una forma anticuada de
elegir al candidato a la presidencia
y no es digno de la democracia
más importante del planeta. Lo
más aconsejable es que los dos
partidos políticos permitan la elec­
ción directa de los candidatos a la
presidencia.
Uno de los requisitos más im­
portantes debería ser que los
votantes tengan que estar adscri­
tos a su partido político antes de
sufragar su voto en las primarias
electorales. A los votantes “inde­
pendientes” se les debe negar este
derecho. Estos últimos tendrán
todo ese derecho en las elecciones
presidenciales de noviembre.
Es tiempo de revisar las reglas
de juego de las elecciones prima­
rias. El proceso electoral no puede
quedarse en el pasado; hay que
modernizarla.

de Golden State, consumando la

El Barça descubre la maqueta del nuevo Camp Nou, previsto para 2021-22

Una vez presentada la maque­
ta, ésta quedará expuesta para
que los socios y aficionados la
puedan ver en la sala París, junto
al Camp Nou. La pieza, de unos
70 kilogramos de peso, ha sido
transportada desde Japón, y han
intervenido en su construcción
unas veinte personas durante
cuatro semanas.
La totalidad de la plantilla de
FC Barcelona, liderada por el
entrenador Luis Enrique Mar­
tínez, así como la junta direc­
tiva, presidida por Josep Maria
Bartomeu, han sido los grandes
protagonistas del descubrimiento
de la maqueta del nuevo Camp
Nou, cuyo acto se ha llevado a
cabo en el primer graderío del
estadio, bajo el palco de honor.
El acto solemne que ha presen­
tado el FC Barcelona ha ido de
la mano del eslogan “Nou Camp
Nou. Un somni obert al món”
(Nuevo Camp Nou. Un sueño
abierto al mundo), insertado en
una gran caja dentro de la cual
estaba la maqueta.
La maqueta del nuevo estadio
ha salido a la luz después de que
los cuatro capitanes del club
(Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets,
Lionel Messi y Javier Masch­
erano), así como el entrenador
(Luis Enrique) y el presidente
(Josep Maria Bartomeu), junto
al comisionado del Espai Barça
(Jordi Moix), pulsasen un balón,
que ha separado los cubículos y
han dejado el proyecto de remod­
elación al descubierto.
El inicio de las obras de re­
modelación empezará a ser una
realidad a partir de mediados de
la temporada que viene, cuando
está prevista la primera actua­
ción, aunque el presidente de
la entidad ha asegurado que por
compromiso electoral “la deuda
deberá estar por debajo de los
200 millones de euros”, hecho
que le ha animado a apuntar que
para ello el Barça acelerará la
consecución de un contrato para
que el estadio cuente con una
denominación comercial.
De hecho, los 200 millones
de euros que espera recaudar el
Barça por el nombre comercial,
es un tercio del dinero que espera
invertir el club en toda la obra del
‘Espai Barça’, que es donde se
integra la remodelación del Camp
Nou, así como la construcción de
un nuevo Palau Blaugrana, un
nuevo Miniestadi y la adecuación
del entorno del estadio, cuyo
coste total asciende a 600 mi­
llones de euros.

Bartomeu ha destacado que el
Barcelona llevó a cabo un estudio
del rendimiento económico que
extraería la entidad del Espai
Barça, sobre unos 50 millones
de euros de facturación, y ha
reconocido que esta cifra era
“conservadora” y, al final, se
han quedado “cortos”, por lo que
espera que cuando el club finalice
las obras, podrá llegar a facturar
una cifra mucho más alta, que
ayudará a financiar el proyecto.
De todas formas, el presidente
del Barça ha subrayado que la
obra que emprenden “no podrá
en riesgo el proyecto deportivo”,
y aún menos que para financiarla
“el Barça no venderá ni un palmo
de su patrimonio”.
El presidente azulgrana ha
explicado que, según un estudio
sobre el impacto económico del
Barça en la capital catalana, éste
supone un 1.5 por ciento del
PIB de la ciudad, donde “miles
de personas” tienen trabajo, de
forma directa o indirecta, a través
del club azulgrana.
Además de los jugadores y
directivos, el acto ha contado con
la presencia de los miembros del
estudio ganador para remode­
lar el Camp Nou, el despacho
de arquitectos japonés Nikken
Sekkei, presidido por Tadao
Kamei y cuyo director general
es Takeyuki Katsuya, así como
representantes del despacho
asociado en Barcelona, PascualAusió Arquitectes.
También han asistido el presi­
dente de la LFP, Javier Tebas, y
el vicepresidente de la UEFA,

El Barcelona ha asegurado
que la figura de Johan Cruyff,
fallecido hace casi un mes, tendrá

(33-35-8-0) closed out the 201516 season with a 5-2 loss to the
Manitoba Moose in front of
11,376 at the AT&T Center. Ben
Street and Sam Henley each tal­
lied goals for the Rampage, who
took an early 2-0 lead before
Manitoba rattled off five unan­
swered goals to secure the win.
Street lit the lamp first for San
Antonio, skating in on a break
and firing a backhand shot past
Connor Hellebuyck at 18:04, and
the Rampage took a 1-0 lead into
the first intermission.
Henley extended the Silver and
Black’s lead to two early in the
middle session, deflecting a Dun­
can Siemens blast to make it 2-0.
From there it was all Manitoba,
beginning with Scott Kosma­
chuk’s wrister from the right
circle at 15:04 of the period. The
Moose tallied two more before
the end of the frame, one off the
stick of Jansen Harkins and the
other from Jimmy Lodge on the
power play, which marked his
first AHL tallies for both players,
to make it 3-2 Moose heading
into the second break.
Lodge tallied two more goals
in the third period to complete
the hat trick and seal a 5-2 win
for Manitoba. The Moose outshot
San Antonio 34-20 and scored

Conference Co-Hitter of the Week
St. Mary’s slugger Sydney
Wellmann has been honored as
the Heartland Conference Hitter
of the Week for the third time
this season, the league announced
Monday.
This time Wellmann (Sr., Bren­
ham, Texas) was named the con­
ference’s Co-Hitter of the Week,
sharing the honors with Lubbock
Christian’s Lindzi Clemmer.
Wellmann found the perfect
balance between power and ef­
ficiency last week, batting .667
with five RBI, two home runs and
four runs scored to go along with
a 2.667 slugging percentage and
.857 on-base percentage –and she
did all of this in just three official
at-bats.
After Wellmann homered
twice in her first three at-bats
of the series, she proceeded to
draw four walks as the Javeli­
nas wanted nothing to do with
pitching anything hittable to
Wellmann the rest of the way.
She ranks among the nation’s
leaders in RBI and home runs,
ranking No. 1 in RBI midway
through last week following the
series against TAMUK.
The honor is the latest in a
long line of awards for Wellmann
this season, who has twice won
national hitter of the week awards
(NFCA Louisville Slugger/Na­
tional Hitter of the Week and
Hero Sports “Hero of the Week”)
and ranks No. 1 in the nation in
RBI (60).

weather. It was a warm morning
with overcast and the decision to
play ball was made.
As Desperado players started
arriving to the field, the Teco­
lotes squad was already tying
their cleats and getting ready for
their challenge. With the field
a little moist, Tyler Cales took
the mound for the home team
Tecolotes.
Cales, born in Dayton, Ohio,
graduated from James Madison
high school in 2004. That same
year, Cales was drafted in the
49th round of the MLB Amateur
Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He
played for the University of New
Mexico, Midland College and St.
Mary’s University in our very
own San Antonio, Texas.
As a pitcher, Cales is 1-1 in this
young season and was anxious to
get over .500. The Desperados
came with a different plan for
Cales. Elias Contreras and Robert
Quintanilla assembled an experi­
enced team with notable players
like, Jason Wright, Marc Muñoz
and the Carlin brothers, David
and Eric Carlin.
The game was off to a lop­
sided start as the Tecolotes took
a dominant lead early. Once
again, Javier Arrieta put one over
the fence with two runners on.
Unfortunately for Cales, Arrieta
and the Tecolotes, the rain came
down after 3 1/3 innings.
Due to the short stoppage, the
game will be restarted this week­
end, on Sunday April 24, at 9 a.m.

evento “Piñatas en El Barrio”,

En el renovado estadio Toyota
Field, con una asistencia récord de
8,466 espectadores entre los que se
contaron líderes de la comunidad y
del sector privado, el nuevo equipo
de balompié profesional San Antonio FC (SAFC), propiedad de la
empresa Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E), echó las campanas
al vuelo durante su partido de
apertura con el que marcó su debut en la liga internacional United
Soccer League (USL), que cuenta
con equipos afiliados de Estados
Unidos y Canadá.
Por el sector gobierno (municipal) estuvieron presentes la
alcaldesa Ivy Taylor y el concejal
Mike Gallagher, representante del
Distrito 10.
Por el condado de Bexar estuvieron el juez de la corte de comisionados Nelson W. Wolff y Tommy
Calvert del Precinto 4.
USL fue representada por su
presidente, el caballero Jake Edwards, y SAFC por el gerente Tim
Holt y el abogado Bobby Perez,
quien es vicepresidente y abogado
de SS&E. Por el sector privado

Con el tema “River of Champions” se desarrolló con éxito
el desfile Texas Cavaliers River
Parade con el Rey Antonio Hunt
Winton III al frente de la vistosa
caravana de barcas iluminadas,
que pasearon en el River Walk
ante miles de entusiastas espectadores decididos a desafiar un
clima de tormenta que afortunadamente no se dio.
El desfile contó con la participación de 53 embarcaciones
patrocinadas por agencias mu-
nicipales, empresas del sector
privado y asociaciones civiles
representadas por gentiles reinas
y princesas.

Boiler House blooms new spring menu

Boiler House Texas Grill and
Wine Garden, located at the historical Pearl, is ready to bring in
regulars and new customers to try
new dishes from the menu that are
lighter, yet filling in flavor, just in
time for the spring season.
La Prensa recently stopped by
the Boiler House to try the new
menu, and we must say that we
were pleasantly surprised as it
took on a different approach that
we were not expecting. In fact, the
spring menu brought on a sweeter
flavor to these savory meals.
For Chef Jeff White, it was important to incorporate an updated
menu that involves fresh greens
and smaller portions for a variety
of culinary treats.
For the taste portion of the
menu, expect more citrus and sour
flavors to cleanse the palette before
trying the courses ahead. The Foie
Gras Torchon, an appetizer that
includes red onion marmalade,
radish, pistachios and toast points
kicked off the menu with a surprisingly sweeter note. The starter
pairs well with a dry, white wine.
Virginia Ham Carpaccio
This appetizer is made with
chicken fat aioli, shaved parmesan, mustard oil and toast points.
For those with a more delicate
palette, this dish is full of robust
flavors that might overwhelm
you. But if your taste buds are
up to the challenge, you are in
for a treat.
Yellowtail Agua Chile
This addition to the appetizer
menu combines Serrano peppers,
red onion, pomegranate, lemonlime vinaigrette and lime caviar.
This svelte option is among the
lightest dishes on the menu and
is as flavorful as it is filling. It is
truly a triumph for Boiler House
patrons to enjoy.
Char-Grilled Octopus
This seafood delight has compressed watermelon, smoked
yogurt, hearts of palm, fresh
cilantro and fresh basil. Finding
perfectly prepared octopus is
no easy task, but leave it up to
this stellar eatery to do the job.
While the watermelon provides
an interesting contrast of flavors,
the seafood and other savory
ingredients, mainly the hearts of
palm, can easily stand on its own.
The next fulfilling main courses, Boiler Plates, included essences of mesquite as well as
olive oil in each bite.
Oxtail Gnocchi
This dish was the one I highly
recommend to try. With braised
oxtail, baby carrots, potato gnocchi and dijonaise cream, you will
leave with a refined definition of
meat and potatoes, the essentials
to tame your hunger.
Seared Dry Boat Scallops
Almost as tricky as perfectly
cooking octopus, scallops have a
nuance in their flavor. Carrying
sunchoke puree, veloute parmesan nage and bacon relish, it
displayed a mastery of combining
two meats in one plate.
Braised Pork Shank 28
This was an exciting dish to try
because it cannot be duplicated
anywhere in San Antonio. Chef
White created a sensation with natural jus, salsa verde and whipped
potato mousseline so successfully
that the meat was capable of peeling off from the bone.
Ultimately, Chef White successfully created a refined menu
that serves as an ode to spring.

Nerea Camacho es “La Esclava
Blanca” en Telemundo

¿Cómo podía ser posible que
a principios de los 1800’s en
Colombia pudiera existir una
esclava que fuera blanca? Pues
Nerea Camacho, la actriz española que encarna a este personaje
de la nueva serie de Telemundo,
platicó con La Prensa para dar
a conocer más de su inusual
personaje.
Esta joven actriz tiene apenas
18 años y ya cuenta en su hoja de
vida un Premio Goya, que es el
equivalente español a los Premios
Oscar.
Nerea cuenta que toda la serie
de “La Esclava Blanca” ya fue
completamente grabada por
Caracol Televisión y que recién
está terminando de proyectarse en
Colombia. “Nos ha ido muy bien
la verdad”, dice.
“Mi personaje es Victoria
Quintero, alguien a quien la
pasan muchas cosas desde niña”,
describe, refiriéndose a esto que
su personaje se queda huérfano
al ser asesinados sus padres y
siendo bebé al ser entregada
para salvar su vida a un pareja
de esclavos negros que escapan
de la persecución para vivir en
libertad.
Crecer siendo la única niña
blanca en una comunidad de
esclavos negros liberados fue
al mismo tiempo segura, pero
complicada.
Años más tarde, la Corona Española se da cuenta que está viva
y mandan por ella. “La mandan
a un convento a España, pero se
vuelve a Colombia para encontrar
a su familia y al amor de su vida,
con el que nació y crió antes de
ir a España pero para liberarlos”.
“Es una mujer muy guerrera,
muy segura de sí misma, que ama
a su familia y que lucha por ella y
para conseguir todo lo que quiere… y acabar con las injusticias,
con los esclavos y la esclavitud de
esa época”, añade la actriz.
La serie fue grabada en Santa
Marta, Colombia, y basada en
“La Esclava Blanca” cuenta la historia de la joven Victoria Quintero, quien fue criada en secreto por una familia de esclavos al ser asesinada su familia. (Foto,

parte del país suramericano. También en Cartagena y la hacienda La Concepción, en Amaine
(Valle del Cauca).
La historia de “La Esclava
Blanca”, que es ficticia, se desarrolla entre 1823 a 1843.
También la parte del convento
en España se grabó en Villa
Leyva, también Colombia, por
su aspecto colonial.
Y aunque la esclavitud es
el gran tema de fondo, Nerea
Camacho añade que también trata
de cómo era la mujer antigua de
esa época: a todo los que estaban
sometidas, que eran débiles, que
se casaban muy jóvenes (por
interés familiares, por tierras,
por apellidos) y que los hombres
eran los dueños de las mujeres y
ellas debían hacer lo que ellos les
ordenasen.
Personajes
La historia de Victoria Camacho es como de una heroína
en tiempos donde las mujeres,
aunque de sangre española o
criolla, estaban sometidas. Pero
el destino y trato era peor para
las esclavas negras.
La familia que la cría está
formada por Tomás, su padre
adoptivo interpretado por el actor Modesto Lacen (que también
participó en la serie ‘Celia’ como
Pedro Knight).
Su madre adoptiva es Lorenza
(Miroslava Morales).
Y su gran amor es Miguel
(representado por el actor cubano
Orián Suárez).
Aunque veinte años después
Victoria Quintero regresa a Co-
lombia como marquesa para
casarse con el asesino de sus
padres, el avaricioso hacendado
Nicolás Parreño (interpretado
por el actor español Miguel de
Miguel), también lo hace para
cobrar venganza y rescatar su
familia adoptiva.

‘Margaret and Arthur’s Story’ tells a
journey of courage, survival and love

As the world observes Holocaust Remembrance Day on May
5, it is important to remember
those who lost their lives in the
horrific experience, including
one story that is ready to be
screened.
Margaret’s Legacy is an
umbrella agency that seeks to
provide Holocaust education
through tools such as the documentary, “Margaret and Arthur’s
Story.” Using their harrowing,
yet inspirational story as a backdrop, “Margaret and Arthur’s
Story” is a documentary produced specifically for young
viewers to educate them about
the Holocaust. The film underscores its impact and why future
generations cannot allow history
to repeat itself.
Margaret and Arthur’s granddaughter, Danna Harwood, who
was struck by a question from
her 11 year-old daughter, Sari,
after Margaret’s passing in 2008,
produced the documentary. She
asked, “Why don’t I know greatgrandma’s Holocaust story?”
It was then that Harwood
decided to ask her grandfather
about his time in the concentration camps.
“He came over one day. We
talked for about five to six hours,
and he wouldn’t stop talking. He
was excited to share his story
with me, my children and my extended family,” Harwood told La
Prensa. “It was a very important
day that changed all of our lives
because my kid learned the story,
and now I have the opportunity
to share the story with others, so
we never forget.”
After learning about her grandfather’s heroic tale, she was able
to retain the Holocaust experiences of her grandparents before
the war, after the war and how
they finally escaped to Canada.
This resonating question led
Danna to make a film and after
years of research, “Margaret and
Arthur’s Story” came to be.
The 35 minute film chronicles
Margaret and Arthur Weisz’s
experiences during WWII, their
escape from Hungary to Canada
and their new life in Hamilton,
Ontario—told through the eyes
of Arthur and Weisz’s descendants.
This documentary addresses
the themes of courage, survival
and love while educating the
youth about the need for tolerance and kindness in our world.
Young audiences around the
world are gaining a better understanding of the Holocaust and its
lingering effects as seen through
the eyes of two young people Margaret and Arthur Weisz.
For Harwood, it is important
for everybody to gain more
knowledge about what happened from 1939 to1945. After
they watched the film, Harwood
would like for many to carry the
message to no longer spread a
form of hate, but a form of empowerment to friends, families
and acquaintances.
“I want them to carry that we
need to make sure to spread the
word so that this never happens
again. I also want many to learn
what is going on today in society,
and that we have to be kind to
each other,” concluded Harwood.

Witte Museum abrirá exposición de
mapas sobre el origen de Texas

El próximo 29 de abril The
Witte Museum abrirá la exposición “Mapping Texas: From
Frontier to the Lone Star State”
(Cartografía de Texas: de la
Frontera al Estado de la Estrella
Solitaria”.
Esta exhibición, organizada
por el Witte Museum y las
autoridades de Texas General
Land Office “cubre cerca de
trescientos años de la cartografía
de Texas. Los mapas, que datan
desde el siglo 16 hasta el siglo
19, documentan el nacimiento
de Texas, la evolución las fronteras físicas y políticas del estado y la erección de El Álamo
y las Misiones de San Antonio”,
explica el museo en comunicado
de prensa.
De esta forma, más de cuarenta mapas provenientes de
la colección de Texas General
Land Office (GLO, por sus iniciales en inglés), el Witte Museum y Frank y Carol Holcomb
de Houston, serán desplegados
en esta exhibición. La institución señala que muchos de
estos mapas serán puestos a la
vista del público en general por
primera vez.
Marise McDermott, presidente y CEO del Witte Museum,
señala que para el equipo curatorial del museo que preside es
un orgullo haber trabajado con
los archivistas de Texas General
Land Office para desplegar estos
íconos esenciales de la historia
de Texas.
Por su parte, George P. Bush,
General Land Office Commissioner, agregó que la colaboración con el Witte Museum “es

Contenidos
La nueva exhibición se enfoca en importantes fases del
desarrollo de la cartografía de
estado de Texas. Entre estas
se incluyen: el descubrimiento
europeo, la expansión hacia el
oeste de los Estados Unidos, el
asentamiento de la frontera a
través de contratos empresariales entre el estado mexicano de
Coahuila y Texas, los límites
de la República de Texas y las
cambiantes fronteras de San
Antonio y el condado de Bexar.
El museo señala también que
la exhibición reunirá por primera
vez tres de los mapas más importantes del “Padre de Texas”,
Stephen F. Austin, los que representan su contribución a la
historia cartográfica del estado.
Uno de los principales mapas
de esta exhibición es el “Connected Map of Austin’s Colony”, que data de 1837. Esta
pieza describe los grants originales emitidos dentro de la
Colonia de Austin, los cuales se
convierte en el modelo para los
subsecuentes mapas de propiedad alojados en Texas General
Land Office.
“Esta exhibición no se parece
a nada a lo que han visto. Los
mapas y los objetos relacionados a ellos son raros y frágiles,

and the Giant who introduces her

Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-yearold girl from London, is initially
frightened of the mysterious giant
who has brought her to his cave,
but soon comes to realize that the
BFG is actually quite gentle and
charming, and, having never met
a giant before, has many questions.
Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen
(Penelope Wilton) and warn her of
the precarious giant situation, but
they must first convince the Queen
and her maid, Mary (Rebecca
Hall), that giants do indeed exist.
Together, they come up with a plan
to get rid of the giants once and for
all on July 1.

Crawfish Festival of New Braunfels offers
two days of fun-packed entertainment

The third time’s the charm as
the annual Crawfish Festival of
New Braunfels is now a two-day
event offering more crawfish,
more family friendly fun, 11
bands on three stages and even
more contests and activities.
The festival runs from 6 p.m. to
midnight on Friday, April 29 with
the fun continuing on Saturday,
April 30 from 11 a.m. to1 a.m. at
the Comal County Fairgrounds,
located at 701 Common Street,
in New Braunfels.
This year’s event will again
feature a vibrant children’s area,
Battle of the Roux cook-off, a 5K
Crawdaddy Dash, a craft market
and a huge variety of food for
those who aren’t yet crazy about
those delicious mudbugs.
Merchandise booths will offer
arts and crafts, jewelry, handmade
crafts, woodwork items and numerous other specialty pieces for
purchase.
Ben Jones, director of the Hospitality and Visitors Association
of New Braunfels, had been hav-
ing a crawfish festival at his home
for years. After his wife said no to
the loads of tour buses pulling up
to her front door, Jones moved the
increasingly popular event to the
Comal County Fairgrounds.
“I had been doing crawfish
events for 14 years at our home,”
Jones said. “In 2013, it grew so
large that we had a shuttle service
taking guests to and from our
event. After that, my wife told me
that she wanted her house back.”
The Battle of the Roux will
again let cooks show off their
culinary talents with first, second
and third place awarded in two
categories. Judging is at 2 p.m.
Proceeds from this year’s cookoff benefits Kids Feeding Kids.
The 5K Crawdaddy Dash returns to let runners or walkers
start the day off right by burning
some calories before chowing
down on some delicious food
and beverages or boot scooting
to the numerous entertainers on
hand. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and
all proceeds from this year’s race
will go to help the New Braunfels
Little League purchase safety
equipment that will make life
easier for youngsters who play
the game.
Other fun activities planned to
keep festival-goers entertained
and busy include the return of
the Kid Zone with new rides for
the kiddos, crawfish races and a
washer toss contest.
Also returning this year is the
popular Splash Dogs, a nationally
recognized dog enthusiast company that organizes and promotes
dock jumping events across the
U.S. These top canine athletes
will be competing for a spot at the
National Splash Dogs Championships in Las Vegas. The Splash
Dogs will perform throughout the
festival on both days.
And more music equals more
fun as William Clark Green gets
the party started on the Bud Light
Stage on Friday night. Green is
a native Texan and Texas Tech
University graduate whose latest album is entitled “Ringling
Road.”
Also on Friday night, the festival will showcase local talent
on the Zydeco Stage as Midnight
River Choir, a group of four
young men who literally found
each other while making great
harmony as they floated down the
Guadalupe River, performs. Their
latest album is called “Fresh Air.”
Pat Green, whose current single
is “While I was Away” from
his new album “Home,” is the
music headliner. The Grammy
nominated artist has sold over 2
million albums. He will perform
on the Bud Light Stage on Saturday night.
Wade Bowen, who hails from
Waco and has been a popular
singer in Texas for years, will also
perform on the Bud Light stage on
Saturday night.
Other musical acts performing during the two-day festival
include: Kurt Reece, Dr. Zog,
Kaylee Rutland, Jason Allen, the
Bill Ayers Band, Slim Bawb and
The Fabulous Stumpgrinders, and
Jean-Pierre and the Zydeco Angels.

‘Mega Corazon’ presents nine-hour literary livestream of S.A. spoken word

With the support of the National Endowment for the Arts and
the John L. Santikos Charitable
Foundation of the San Antonio
Area Foundation, URBAN-15 is
excited to present the 3rd annual
“Mega Corazon,” a nine-hour
poetry marathon performed live
in studio and livestreamed globally via an online broadcasting
system.
Mega Corazon began in 2014
following a production called
“San Antonio, Mi Pueblo,” staged
by inaugural San Antonio Poet
Laureate Carmen Tafolla as the
culminating event in her poet
laureate signature series.
As part of this production, she
commissioned local composer
and percussionist George Cisneros of URBAN-15 to write
a soundtrack that would allow
her to weave her original works
alongside those of the collaborating poets.
The 13 performers who participated became the backbone of
URBAN-15’s “Mega Corazon,”
a now-annual performance featuring the best in South Texasbased spoken word. Curated by
Tafolla, “Mega Corazon” celebrates a hybrid poetic tradition
that combines street, classical
and slam performance styles
for a production that is frontal,
improvisational, at times painful,
and choreographed for a highly
visual impact.
Part of National Poetry Month
activities, this year’s “Mega
Corazon” will take place on
Thursday, April 28 from 1 – 10
p.m. Performances are filmed
live in the URBAN-15 studio
and, for those based locally, can
be viewed in person.
For those unable to attend or
outside San Antonio, URBAN-15
will also stream Mega Corazon
live, online, and in real time via
our internet broadcasting system.

Gonzaba Medical Group unveils
new Fiesta medal contest

The collecting of Fiesta medals
is a huge San Antonio Fiesta tradition and Gonzaba Medical Group is
excited to take part. Gonzaba Medical Group recently unveiled their
2016 Fiesta Medal at the Gonzaba
Main Clinic.
Gonzaba Medical Group will be
giving out not one but six medals
through a series of events held
throughout April. Each of the six
medals has a letter which medal
enthusiasts can try to collect. These
six medals spell the word, “FIESTA.” The idea is for participants
to collect all six for a chance to win
the grand prize— a cruise for two.
There will also be second and
third place winners. Everyone who
has collected all six medals will be
put into a raffle for prizes.
The winners of their first ever
fiesta event “Fiesta Medal Bingo”
will be drawn on April 30, where
they will also be a “Fiesta Block
Party,” held at Gonzaba’s newest
location on S. New Braunfels Ave.
During the contest, participants
can collect the medals at different
events going on throughout the
week. The locations of the events
will be announced via social media. The winners of their first ever fiesta event “Fiesta Medal Bingo”
