Trick or Treat
Thanksgiving and Christmas season are such a beautiful time of
year. Don’t you love the incredible smell of the Thanksgiving turkey
baking in the oven, to the inviting aroma of cinnamon and evergreen at
Christmas time?
We have some fun activities coming up, like Laura Ingalls Wilder
Christmas at The Lyric Arts Theater in Anoka and Frank Sinatra
Christmas My Way at the Plymouth Playhouse, to name a few. Please
check the Bistro for information and sign up by the mailboxes.
Please join us November 30th, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p. m. as we decorate
Engel Haus for the holidays, we will be trimming the Christmas trees
and making our home festive.
The Engel Haus Christmas party will be held Wednesday, December
9th from 4:00- 6:00 p.m. Please join us, along with your families, for a
great way to celebrate the season.
This is the time of the year we look forward to…it’s about the time we
spend with our families and friends. We have so much to be thankful
for here at Engel Haus we are blessed with a community that stays
active and busy. It warms my heart to see the many new friendships
that have developed and continue to grow.
As always, remember to stop by for our daily Kaffee and Kuchen each
afternoon from 2:30pm-3:30pm, we’d love to share a cup of coffee.
I want to wish all of you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving
and a very Merry Christmas.

Quilt of Valor
In September Don R. was presented with a quilt of
valor. These quilts are awarded to service members
that have been “touched by war.”
The Quilts of Valor is a non-profit Foundation that
started in November 2003 with the goal of making
quilts that would both heal and comfort our war
wounded. These quilts are called Quilts of Valor
(QOVs). Wounds that qualify are those that are both
seen and unseen. The mission of the Quilts of Valor
Foundation is to cover service members and veterans
touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of
Valor. Don served in the US Army for 3 years and
was in combat in Vietnam from 1965- 1966.

presented him with his Quilt of Valor.
Engel Haus Honors our Veterans
On November 11th, Veterans Day, Engel Haus paid tribute by honoring them and
the 3 branches of service that they represented, Army, Navy and Marines.
Patriotic music was provided by Linda Johnson. Each veteran was given a card
and certificate thanking them for serving our country and protecting our freedoms!
What is a Veteran?
A veteran - whether active
duty, discharged, retired or
reserve - is someone who,
at one point in his life,
wrote a blank check made
payable to “The United
States of America,” for an
amount of “up to, and
including his life.”
Resident family member Mike Kersch, Engel Haus residents; Howard
Eicher, Bill Doty, Maurice Vandergon, Ray McCallum, Don Renner &
Wayne Rommel. Not pictured Bob Petron and Elaine Ellis.
That is honor.
Engel Haus’ One Year Anniversary was celebrated Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
and was a huge success.
The atmosphere was alive with music by the Melo-Knights, which resulted in plenty of lively
dancing. A delicious German lunch was prepared by the incredible cooks here at Engel Haus.
We would like to thank the ST Michaee Albertville Women of Today, the Albertville Royalty,
Representative Eric Lucero, our residents, families and friends as well as the community for
attending the festivities.
Danke (Thank you in German)
Meet the Staff - Todd Parrish
Todd Parrish has worked for Guardian Angels for almost 4 years now. He grew up in Memphis Tennessee.
In high school he played football and basketball.
Todd learned a lot of his handyman skills working with his stepdad, who owned a company that leased semi
trucks. Todd repaired the semi trucks and helped restore old tractors. He remodeled homes and even helped
his brother in law build a home. We all know that Todd can pretty much
fix anything...now we know why. He’s had a lot of experience. Todd's
real name is Emmett but he has always gone by Todd, which is his middle
name. Todd has a twin brother 3 sisters, and 2 more brothers.
In high school Todd learned to play guitar, bass guitar and drums, and even
played in a band and continued to perform with the band into his 20’s. The
band played at a lot of weddings, in fact, it was while he was playing at a
wedding that he met his wife Brandy. Todd and Brandy have one son
named Hayden.
In his spare time Todd enjoys spending time with his family. He loves
music and one of his hobbies is collecting vintage records. He plays the
bass, guitar and drums but the bass is his favorite.
We are very lucky to have Todd here at Engel Haus.
Todd, Brandy, & Hayden

us with her gift to reach residents with Alzheimer’s and their ability to create beautiful art.

Lorraine Schmidt
Lorraine Schmidt moved to Engel Haus January 2015. She was born
in Mora, Minnesota and grew up in North Minneapolis. She graduated
from Minneapolis North High School. After she graduated she met
and married Roy Schmidt. Roy was in the U.S. Navy so after they
married they moved to the state of Washington. While they were out
there Lorraine worked as a secretary for the Department of the Navy.
After WWII was over Roy got out of the service and they moved to Robbinsdale. Lorraine was able to get
a secretarial job at the Northern Pump Defense plant in Fridley. They had 2 sons Gary and Ronald. She
was married to Roy for 62 years before he died.
She was an avid baker...especially bread. She made it all the time and when her sons moved out they said
they really missed that incredible homemade bread. She was a fabulous quilter and was a member of the
quilt club at her church.
What she loved the most was being a homemaker and caring for her family. She cared for her mother and
mother-in-law and helped them with their laundry among other things.
She loves living here at Engel Haus. She said that she has made many good friends and loves the
socializing.
We are so happy that Lorraine chose to live at Engel Haus, we love having her here.
