pastor`s notes - St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
PASTOR'S NOTES
Two weeks after announcing his resignation, the topic of conversation for many people
is Pope Benedict’s resignation, and who may be
elected as our new Pope in the next few days.
The latter is really thought provoking, since
whoever is elected as Pope will be leading our
Church forward. When asked who I think will be
elected as Pope, my response is, “Whoever the
Holy Spirit wants.” We must trust God in choosing our priests, bishops and popes. Yet it doesn’t take away our need to pray for the Cardinal
Electors who have the hard task of electing the
266th successor to St. Peter, and what better
season to spend time praying than Lent?
This Lent season provides us with time
to do our part in preparing the Church to move
forward through the three marks of Lent; fasting,
prayer and alms giving. As the Church prepares
to receive our new Holy Father, we are all invited to join in this reception through these three
marks of Lent. Although we don’t know who
the new Pope will be, we can be assured that
he will be in need of our support through prayer.
In addition to praying for our whomever
is chosen as our Pope, we should also take
time and pray for Pope Benedict in gratitude for
his service during these last eight years as our
Pope and for the many years of service to the
Holy See prior to his election in 2005. I often
feel overwhelmed as pastor of a large parish
such as St. Francis, but it comes in no way
close to being the Pastor of the Universal
Church! Hence, we must continue to pray and
be grateful for Pope Benedict.
them for these intentions. If we said we would
go to Mass on a daily basis, or if we are fasting,
or abstaining, offer these as additional intentions. Of course we must always entrust our
Church to our Blessed Mother’s loving care. One
thing is certain; we must do our part, as we are
all part of the Church.
In Christ,
Fr. Efrain Bautista

caminos cuaresmales. Nosotros no sabemos quién

“Especial Familiar”.
