A New Year and New Initiatives
A New Year and New Initiatives
Welcome to the 2015-16 school
year! We are looking forward to
a productive partnership with you
to ensure our students can achieve
their highest potential. We would
like to share with you the exciting
news regarding administration. After serving the elementary school
for the past 12 years, Ms. Margaret
Fayed will step up to serve as the
Curriculum, Assessment and Professional Development Director.
Hayah believes that each student
deserves to be healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged.
As a school, we endeavor to improve our practices year after year
to address that belief. This year Ms.
Fayed and the school administrators have formulated a new school
initiative plan to better learning
programs, enhance teaching strategies and advance administrative
practices. We began by gathering,
organizing and analyzing data.
Our sources of data included re-
sponses on student surveys, parent
surveys, staff surveys, alumni surveys, teacher focus groups, school
improvement reports and administrative feedback.Through this collaborative effort, we have chosen
to focus on the following areas
over the coming three years:
LEARNER
ENGAGEMENT:
Building an active, learner-centered environment.
ASSESSMENT AND DATA:
Boosting student achievement
through powerful assessment practices and data analysis.
SCHOOL CLIMATE: Fostering a
healthy social/emotional environment within our school community.
Action plans for each target area are
being created which include developing skills among staff members,
professional learning communities
and opportunities among all stakeholders. A joint effort needs to take
place to continually develop our

High School Graduation
June 12th, 2015, a turning point for 73 students;
the end of one phase and
the beginning of another.
That evening witnessed the
graduation of the Class of
2015, Hayah’s fifth graduating class. It took place on
campus on a stage set up
in the middle school field.
To match the color of our
senior shirts and flag, the
school building was beautifully lit up with red lights,
making the already beautiful atmosphere unparalleled.
To dilute such an intense, immense and emotional event into
mere words is almost impossible,
but here is how the sequence of
the ceremony went. The crowd
and graduates rose for the national
anthem, which was followed by a
segment of Quran recital by Mohamed Sabry, one of the Class of

2015 graduates. The speeches then
began with Mr. Keith Ord, the High
School Principal followed by Ms.
Abeya Fathy, the Head Principal.
Both speeches were clearly heartfelt, warm and endearing. Following that, four of the graduates gave
speeches beginning with the Valedictorian Zeinab Abouelnaga captivating the audience with a beautiful
story about her father’s journey and
how it awakened inspiration and
hard-work within her pushing her to
accomplish her goals. This was followed by the Salutatorian’s speech
given by Ola Abdelhamid in which
she gave her interesting insight on
the relativity of success and how
it is not just academic. After that
came the bittersweet speech by the
Class President Youssef Ramzy
and which revolved around an extended metaphor describing life as

“a box of chocolates,” in which he
spoke about the class’ experience.
The final student speech was that
of the Class Representative Anas
Soliman describing the class’ journey in Hayah as a circle, and reminiscing on the class’ memories as
well as recalling its humorous mishaps. The sincerity of the speeches
engendered both laughter and tears
on this highly charged day. This
surge of conflicting emotions was
further enhanced by the videos
playing throughout the ceremony, generating more laughter and
tears. The tears were quickly overshadowed however by cries of joy
and excitement as Mr. Mohamed
Magdy gave his speech and began
calling out the graduates’ names.
Finally, the long awaited moment
arrived as Ms. Abeya Fathy officially graduated the Class of 2015

and caps were thrown into the air
while the sky rained confetti.
Class of 2015 is not just any class;
it has repeatedly displayed its excellence in different fields. Academically, this class was nothing
short of superior with 63 students
taking and passing the IB diploma
with an average score of 34.1 and
a top score of 43 points. Moreover,
this class pioneered by managing
to be the first IB graduating class
in Hayah to score 7’s in Chemistry
HL, which was achieved by 3 students. Also, 9 students managed to
obtain a score of 40 or above on
the IB diploma. However, this is
not the only area this class excelled
in. It is brimming with talent between its artists, writers, musicians
and other performers who brought
life and color into the school’s talent shows, carnivals, and countless
occasions. It is also not devoid of
its athletes who made the school
proud time and time again.

to the graduating class.
It is a fresh start and a new school year. No matter
how old our children get, it is always uplifting to
watch them leave for their first day back to school; a
place where they grow, gain knowledge, go through
life experiences and make lifelong friends. We trust
you are all done with your back-to-school shopping
and arrangements and are ready for some serious PTA
fun!
We are planning a welcome brunch for new parents.
It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and get
answers for all those little questions that are not in
the handbook! So stay tuned to our Facebook group
“Hayah PTA” for the date and details.
We’d like to wish all the best to our beautiful PTA
President, Ms. Rana Talae, for the past two years,
as she embarks on a new life chapter far away from
Egypt.
As a PTA board, working with Rana has been
energizing, rewarding and fun! Rana, you will be
greatly missed. This brings us to the exciting news;
this year will witness a new PTA election for the
president position as well as five open positions on the
PTA board. The details and times will be announced
soon. We look forward to all of you participating in
the elections. Finally, we wish you all the best this
year and would like to remind you that we are always
here to help. Together, we can make a difference.
Alia ElKattan Accepts Youth Award on behalf of THIMUN Online Model United Nations
Simply put, attending WSYA was the best experience of my
life. The three days of the festival included Winners presentations, inspiring and accomplished speakers, beneficial workshops, many fruitful discussions, and lots of friendships being
made. As the youngest attendee, I came out with a lot of new
knowledge, ideas, inspiration, and motivation.

A new and exciting year for Exponential, Hayah’s
weekend character building club! An enthusiastic
group of team leaders, coaches and volunteers who
are self-motivated, who provide an emotionally, socially and physically nurturing, safe and fun environment for our Hayah students.
One of Hayah’s greatest success stories is seeing
its alumni students come back to serve their school
community through Exponential. This year, we have
between 25-30 Hayah alumni members on board as
coaches, who, on a weekly basis, devote 5-10 hours
of their time to serve the Hayah mission while they
study and pursue their careers.
On a weekly basis at Exponential, our members enjoy a range of activities and reflections that serve
to guide them to self-discovery and a purposeful
life through an exploration of different values and
skills, and engaging in hands-on activities, trips and
camps. This year, we launched Kindergarten (K) as
the first stepping stone into Exponential. We would
like to welcome our team leaders and wish them a
great year ahead.

Hayah Sharks Join Overseas Conference
Great news for our Sharks program this year: Hayah
has established itself in the Cairo and Middle East
sporting world. Hayah Shark teams will be taking it
to the next level for the 2015-16 academic year. We
will be joining CISSA (Cairo International School
Sports Association) and METS (Middle East Triangle
Schools) overseas conference.
All teams will participate in CISSA along with CAC,
MES, NCBIS, Choueifat, and AIS. There will be
league games and championship tournaments for soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and swimming.
All teams will participate in METS along with schools
in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt (14 schools). There
will be international tournaments for soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and swimming.
This is a great opportunity for Hayah and our athletes
to compete at a higher level and travel to other
countries. This is exactly what we were looking
for. Hayah teams will practice or play games 1 or 2
times per week for a period of around 10 weeks. This
schedule will be available in September.
Seasons of play will look something like the following:
Varsity/JV Volleyball
September to November
Varsity Soccer September to December
MS Soccer
September to December
Swimming
September to November
JV Soccer
November to February
JV Basketball
November to March
Varsity Basketball
January to March
MS Basketball
January to April
MS Volleyball
March to June
U10/12 Soccer
January to June
Track and Field
January to April
Gr. 5/6 Basketball/Soccer January to April
It is important for our families and athletes to know
that if they wish to compete as a Shark, they will
need to commit to the team practices, leagues games
and tournaments. All teams will be based on team
selection from tryouts. In addition, families will need
to commit to the financial requirements.
Thank you for your continued support of the Shark
program. Let’s show the world who the Hayah Sharks
are!
