Chorus Trivia
This bass is considered to have one of the best bass voices
ever to compete in the International Barbershop Harmony
Society. He has competed at the international level in three
different barbershop quartets (including “The Vagabonds”)
and with a 50-member barbershop chorus.
The Vagabonds were “silver medalists” in the International
Barbershop Harmony Society competition in 1976 and
were considered to be one of the finest barbershop quartets
ever to compete, going on to perform on the Phil Donahue
Show and at Pine Knob among many other national venues. A life size photo of this quartet appears in the lobby of
the Barbershop Harmony Society National Headquarters in
Nashville, TN.
“The Vagabonds” produced two albums and one CD with
total sales exceeding 2,500. The CD includes Pine Knob
as well as “top ten” barbershop quartet competition performances.
This talented bass has also sung professionally in other
groups such as “Prime Vocal Jazz”, a mixed jazz sextet, and
currently sings in “Vocal Montage”, a mixed a capella sextet,
whose CD was nominated “Best A Capella CD of 2004”.

Steve SeGraves is in his twenty-first year as the director of
the Farmingotn Chorus. He holds a Bachelors degree in Music
Education from Wayne State University and a Masters degree
in Music Composition from Oakland University. He has been
an assistant Director of the three–time world champion WSU
Men’s Glee Club as well as the University’s Chamber Singers,
the Meadowbrook Estate Show Choir of Oakland University,
and the Langsford Singers of Detroit. He currently directs the 45-voice Langsford
Men’s Chorus in part to honor his mentor, the late Dr. Harry M. Langsford. In the
summer of 2008 the LMC was awarded second prize in the International Musical
Eisteddfod in Llangollen, North Wales. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious choral competitions in the world, and is in fact where the late Luciano Pavarotti began his amazingly successful singing career. Steve has studied jazz voice
with April Arabian-Tini, composition with Stanley Hollingsworth, conducting
with Brazeal Dennard, jazz piano with Matt Michaels, and jazz theory with Phil
Mattson. Steve is the director of music at his home church, Lutheran Church of
the Redemer in Birmingham. He is thankful to God for his new church and for all
the opportunities and challenges ahead.
He is a published arranger, and he has been commissioned several times to compose or arrange songs for area choirs. While on tour in Washington D.C., in May
2005, the Farmington Chorus joined forces with the United Stated Army Chorus
to premier his arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner. Steve is also called upon
as a guest artist to lead music workshops with choirs in and out of Michigan. Steve
is married to his wife, Amy, and they live in Canton. On August 24th of 2009 Amy
gave birth to their first child, Brady Alexander SeGraves. Brady is adored by his
mom and dad, and of course his sister and brother, Emily, 10 and Benji, 8.
Susan Garr is a cofounder of the Farmington Community
Chorus, serving as the group’s accompanist since September
1980. In Spring 1994, the Farmington Area Arts Commission
recognized Susan with the Distinguished Service Award for
outstanding service to the community in the creative arts.
While studying vocal music education, piano and organ at
Wayne State University, she sang with the Chamber Singers.
Susan has served as choir accompanist for the Farmington, Livonia, and Royal
Oak school districts. She is currently the music minister at St. Colette Parish in
Livonia where she serves as organist, cantor and choir director to three adult
groups, one teen and one children’s choir. Susan and daughter Melissa (a singer
in FCC) reside in Livonia. Susan has two granddaughters, Ella McKenzie Garr
and Lila Grace Campbell Garr by her son Adam and daughter-in-law, Kimberly.
Brian J. Buckmaster graduated from Eastern Michigan
University with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. He
has taken private percussion instruction from Dr. Prince at
EMU and Norm Fickett from the DSO. Brian is presently
teaching elementary music in the Ypsilanti public schools and
has taught private percussion students for over 20 years. Brian
is also a well rounded professional musician who performs locally with the Ambassadors, the Big Band Express, and is a freelance player on
both drum set and percussion with various community theater organizations, top
40 bands, churches and orchestras. Brian has played drums and percussion for the
FCC Spring and Holiday Concerts for over 20 years. He presently lives in Northville with his wife, Elizabeth.
Eric Lundquist learned piano and accordion at an early
age and as a teenager was a member of the Don Large “Make
Way for Youth” chorus on WJR-AM in Detroit. He performed
with the Catholic Central High School Marching Band, studying clarinet with William B. Watts. He enlisted in the U.S. Air
Force and became lead solo clarinetist for the U.S. Air force
Band at Torrejon Air Base in Spain. He studied saxophone
with Jay Walker and flute with Bernard Goldberg of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. After completing his military
service, he was student conductor for the University of Detroit Chorus. He later
became a member and assistant director of the Great Lakes Steel Male Chorus.
Eric has played with a number of outstanding local bands, including Johnny
Trudell, Eddie Nuccilli, Tommy Saunders, Chet Bogan, Swing Shift, Brookside
Jazz Ensemble, Gary Greenfelter Orchestra, One Beat Back, GQ, Warney Ruhl,
Rea Deal and Eddie Santini. He has performed at Pine Knob/DTE, Meadowbrook, the Fisher Theater, Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, the Firefly Club, Cliff Bell’s
and many other venues in the greater Detroit area, including the Detroit International Jazz Festival and the Birmingham Jazz Festival. He also accompanied
PRime Vocal Jazz. Eric is a featured instrumentalist on clarinet, alto and tenor
saxophone, and flute for the Farmington Community Chorus.
The Farmington Community Chorus was established in 1980 under
the sponsorship of the Farmington Hills Parks and Recreation Department. We
have been performing Holiday and Spring Concerts ever since. The chorus meets
each Tuesday evening at the William Costick Activity Center, 11 Mile Road east
of Middlebelt Road, 7:30 - 9:30, while school is in session. Anyone interested in

Dale Anderson is a freelance bassist, author and Michi-
gan-certified music teacher. Although his approach is fundamentally based on the Simandel and Nanny methods, he
incorporates elements of the Ivan Galamian violin technique
into his traditional teaching. Mr. Anderson received Bachelor
and Masters Degrees in Music Education from Wayne State
University, studying with Lawrence Hurst, Maxim Janowsky, Stephen Molina and
Stuart Sankey.
Dale is currently on staff at both the Gifted and Talented Programs in Detroit
Public Schools and maintains his studio at the Cranbrook Academy of Arte in
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Mr. Anderson continues a rigorus performance
schedule and as a clinician, adjudicator and private studio teacher is in high demand. Dale is Principal Bass of the Southfield Symphony and Assistant Principal
Bass of the Southern Great Lakes Symphony.

Chorus Trivia
This baritone plays piano, bass, guitar, banjo and drums.
During 33 years working for Detroit Public Television (in
camera, audio, lighting), he won three (Michigan) Emmys
for lighting. He also worked at WKNR and was a DJ at
WNIC and WOMC (primarily weekends) in the late 70’s/
early 80’s for 10 years.
As part of a four-man folk music group called “The Villagers”,
he performed at many hootenanny’s and appeared five times
on a Channel 9 TV show in 1963 which featured groups
such as “The Four Seasons” and “The Temptations”. “The
Villagers” entertained the National Guard on a weekend bus
tour along with Stevie Wonder, “The Supremes” and “The
Choker Campbell (Motown) Band”.
He is a Vietnam veteran and while in Vietnam he worked as
a full time TV Director in one of the 8 radio/TV stations.
He has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild for 10
years and auditioned for a part in “Detroit 187” (2010 Detroit Crime TV series). He has been featured as an actor or
“voice-over” in many local TV commercials (Belle Tire, etc).
Since 2001, has been attending/performing at “The Kingston Trio Fantasy Camp” in Phoenix, AZ.
