Potentate’s
Comments
Well here we are at January 2016, can you believe
it?!? Well I can’t either. I’ll start off by thanking you
for allowing me to serve as your 2016 Potentate. It is
truly an honor and I’ll do my best to serve the
organization, (along with your 2016 Divan), making
Za-Ga-Zig stronger and better able to serve its
existing Nobles along with getting ready for the new
demands of our future Shriners. Your 2016 Divan
and I will do what we can to help Za-Ga-Zig realize
its full potential as the “premiere fraternal organization for men of good character”
as the Shriners International’s mission statement starts out.
Being the beginning of a new year that means 12 new months of getting together
with friends and acquaintances in our Shrine Temple for fun, fellowship, and
supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children. Not only at the Shrine Temple, but also
out having good times at the parades, events and parties that round out the full
Shriner experience. We strongly encourage everyone to come out and join the fun.
After all, the Shrine is like a big circus Tent. There is room under our tent for
everyone. It doesn’t matter where you live, what you do, or what you dress like.
There should always be a friendly face or two that are happy to see you, so come
on out and enjoy our hospitality.
And Speaking of circus tents…. The Shrine Circus is coming up on March 18,
19, and 20th and we ask that you buy your circus tickets and consider working a
shift at least one show or more. It really is a great time.
Please welcome your knew Oriental Guide for 2016 Bill Walton and his Lady
Kim. And of course major thanks to Illustrious Sir Steve Green and Lady Marsha.
Steve was brave enough to try some new things in 2015 that worked out very well
for Za-Ga-Zig so we should all thank Marsha and Steve for a great 2015 at Za-GaZig.
Remember Za-Ga-Zig’s Nobility Ball is MAY 14th this year. It’s the best party
in the state and we always have a ball at the Ball! There has been some question as
to why the move to later in the year? Here are some of the reasons we’ll try it this
date this year….
The beginning of the year at Za-Ga-Zig is busy, busy, busy. We have a lot of
members working on the ball set up, both the ball itself and also Club and Unit
hospitality rooms, and it’s a long weekend. Then we turn around and do the circus
in a few weeks. This way we can spend the first three months preparing solely on
the Circus which is our largest fundraiser of the year.
Then there is the notorious February weather. We always have a number of
guests who have to cancel their plans to attend because of a forecasted storm. Not
just out of state travelers, but our own Za-Ga-Zig Nobles sometimes can’t make it.
Also the Holiday Inn parking lot often has packed snow an ice around the back
side entrances were many Nobles are offloading luggage and hospitality room gear.
And let’s face it, many of our Nobles and Ladies aren’t as nimble on their feet as
they used to be and slippery surfaces can be dangerous to anyone.
The warmer weather will also make it more comfortable for our smokers who
can easily step outside for their “smoke breaks”. It doesn’t sound like a big deal if
you don’t smoke, but the largest concerns we’ve heard from our friends at Holliday
Inn is that with the typical frigid weather, our smokers don’t always make it all the
way out the doors to smoke, and sometimes just duck into a stairwell. If that continues
continued on page 1
Potentate’s
Comments
continued from inside cover
we could be in danger of losing the venue
and that would kill our ball.
And finally, having the ball scheduled
later in the year will make it available to
many Za-Ga-Zig snow birds who have just
had to miss the ball in the past because they
couldn’t make a special trip back just for
the ball.
We know that the spring is often a time
for graduations and graduation parties, and
we apologize if the Nobility Ball coincides
with an event that would keep you from
attending. If so, we hope you can make it
out for the evening fun at the Ball.
With that, I’d better cut this article off
so you can enjoy the rest of the Feetprints.
Watch for the Feetprints for upcoming
events and check it out online. I look
forward to meeting all of you and enjoying
our Brotherhood.
Fraternally yours,

News From The Nobelles
By Velma Anderson
Fifteen ladies met at the Firecreek
Grille, a really nice place.
The Election of Officers was held and
it was unanimous that we keep the same
officers for another year. We then had a
drawing for a nice poinsettia, which
Jackie Ray from Boone took home with
her.
Our nex meeting will be held at the
Latin King Restaurant, 2200 Hubbell
Ave. at 12:30 pm. Hope everyone can
make it for the New Year.

Cruising with the “Klassy
Chassis” Shrine Club
By: Randy Andrews
Hope everyone has been having a safe and
Happy Holiday Season.
Happy New Year from all of us in the
“Klassy Chassis”.
Provost Guard News
We would like to welcome our new
Potentate Steve Hall and his Lady Teresa.
We as a Unit will do what we can to help
make this a great year for Za-Ga-Zig.
Even though its chilly and a long way
off from parade time, we are starting to
make plans to get out and start parading
again. We have a lot of interest in getting
together a shooting team for C.S.S.A. and
will be getting some dates to practice when
the weather will be more cooperative.
Our Christmas dinner was held at
Prairie Meadows and was very well
attended. Its always nice to get together
with our Ladies and enjoy a great meal and
good converstation.
Our new Chief John Miller, P.P., has
started thinking of new things that we can
do to get us off and running for the new
year.
One big thing coming up is the
CIRCUS, remember its in March, and will
be here before you know it. Get out and
sell some ads for the program and
remember to buy your tickets. For those
of you who have never worked at the
Circus, you need to makes plans to do so.
You will have the time of your life,
representing our great Shrine. It’s a
wonderful time to show Non Shriners what
we are all about.
With a new year starting, you need to
make plans to get out and attend the
different Unit and Clubs fundraisers, and
be sure to bring friends with you.
Remember you do not have to be a Shriner
to attend most of the dinners and it’s a great
way to get new members into the Shrine.
Any Shriners out there that are looking
to get into a Unit, we welcome you to come
to one of our meetings and check us out.
We meet at the Shrine Temple on the first
Thursday at 7:00 pm, hope to see you there.
Remember to keep a smile on your face
and a petition in your pocket.
I would like to invite all of you ladies of the Shrine to come see what our
Shrine Ladies Auxiliary is about.
We will have two meeting times starting next year,
every Wednesday at 9:00AM
Second Thursday of every month 6:30 PM
Both will be in the Ladies Auxiliary room at the Temple.
Bring your crafting ideas, we will be doing handcrafts this year for our Fall
Bazaar plus our other activities.
