Replaced the blazes on the mile-long
bike path near Winding Stairs Parking
Area. The original plan was to replace
old RR cross ties at Duke Power
trailhead, but early morning rain made
for muddy conditions.
This report is for workhikes and trail data
gathering trips from March 22 to
December 31, 2009.

We met at the raft put-in parking area
at 9 a.m. and drove six miles up US
129 to a Forest Service access road
near Bear Creek. Then up 5 miles on a
service road to Jutts Gap where we
began our work digging tread for the
Western Extension of the Bartram
Trail. We began working due east
toward Ledbetter Road.
Approximately 250 yards of tread were
dug, most of which was
rough
digging. Bruce and a student helper
cut blowdowns to clear the way for the
pulaski crew.
We also had some
students peel bark from locust logs

Most spring wildflowers on 4/18 had
not yet emerged at this elevation, but
we did find bloodroot, wild geranium,
It was a day of clearing brush and
blowdowns and trimming new
overhanging growth on the trail.
