“Ballet Escuela” a project started
by the Argentinean Secretary of
Culture to preserve the culture of

Interview
with Andres
and Luciana
We talked with Andres and Luciana, who will come to
Ljubljana in September for our workshop, about their
begginings in tango, what is their advice for those who
start dancing tango, and for those who already dance.
Calesita: What does tango
meant to you?
Luciana: Tango is our way of liv-
ing, it’s life itself. It’s our culture,
tradition. It’s not only a dance, it’s
emotions, feelings.
Calesita: How were your beginnings in tango?
Andres: We didn’t dance in
our first milongas, we used
to watch only. Here in BA you
have to learn before dancing
in the milongas. In traditional
milongas there is respect for the
peolpe that can dance so you
won’t dare to dance if you are
too new. So it took some time to
start dancing.
Calesita: What is the main
difference you see in tango
between Baires and abroad?
Luciana: Tango in BA is different from abroad. There are
milongas in most of the neighborhoods so people that used
to dance when they were young
when tango here was very
important like in the 40’s, still
dance, so you see lots of old
people that never took a class
and learnt only in the milongas
like in the old times. They don’t
care about figures and secuences, they are feeling the music,
feeling their partners and that’s
what they are dancing. There is
still in Buenos Aires that collective consciouness for tango as a
culture and mostly that is what
it differences milongas in BA
from milongas abroad.
Calesita: How many hours do
you dedicate to tango daily?
Andres: We dedicate many
hours daily because we teach
tango, we rehearse and we like
going to milongas at least 2 or
three times a week.
Calesita: What do you recommend to people who are starting to dance tango, what are
biggest mistakes, obstacles?
Luciana: What we recomend
to begginers is to be patient!.
Tango is a very very hard dance
but it’s really worth it! And also
to pick a tango style and try to
keep with it and not start taking
classes with all teachers because
you can get easily confused.
Calesita: What is the advice
for dancers who already
dance couple of years, how
can they become better
Andres: You never stop learning tango...so you can always get
better!
Calesita: Andres, what do
you seek or want from a lady
www.calesitatango.si
when you ask her to dance?
And you Luciana, what do
you wish from a man in one
tanda?
Luciana: For both of us we want
commitment in the person we
dance in milongas. Commitment with the music, with the
other couples in the floordance,
and of course with us. Tango is
an inside dance, it’s not for the
people watching outside.
Calesita: Tips for our DJ’s,
what are your favorite 2 oruestas at the moment?
Andres: We have many favourites orquetras but Di Sarli and
Pugliese are definetely two of
them.
