Quick Guide and Schematics
FuelSystem
The230BRisequippedwithasingle,80Gallon,pressurizedfueltank.ThetankisofPolyethlene constructionandisinsulatedwithfoamduring
theconstructionoftheboat.Thetankislocatedoncenterlinebetweenthelivewell andaftendoftheconsole.Thereisasendingunitinstalledin
thetank.Inspectionportsinthedeckandheadcompartmentprovideaccesstotankfittings.
Thereisafuelpickupsinstalledinthetank.Thepickupincorporatesashutoffvalvealongwithananti‐siphonvalvethancanbeaccessedthrough
theindeckinspectionplateundertheleaningpost.
Thereisanondeckfuelfilllocatedontheportsideoftheboat,justforwardoftheconsole.Accesstothefillisprovided throughaninspection
port.ThetankventsthroughanEPACarbonCanister,locatedintheanchorlocker,whichthanventsoverboardthroughavent fittingonthe
starboardsideofthehull.Accesstotheventisprovidedthroughaninspectionport.Itisrecommendedthattheseconnectionsbeinspected
annually.
The230BRwillcomepre‐riggedfromthefactorywithanenginematchedFuelWaterSeparator.Thefuelwaterseparatorisinstalledinthebilge
andaccessedthroughthebilgeaccesshatchlocatedintheenginepod.TheFuelWaterseparatorshouldbecheckedperiodicallytoensurethefuel
isfreeofwater.Fuelshouldbedisposedofinanapprovedwastecollectiondevicewhenservicing/replacing.Thefiltermustbefilledwithfuel
afterservicing/replacingtheminordertoprimetheengine.
Aprimerbulbforeachengineislocatedintheenginepod.Itisusedtoprimetheengineandsystembeforestartingtheengines.Thisshouldbe
doneafterserviceorafterlongperiodsofdowntimefortheboat.
Allcomponentsofthe230BRFuelSystemareapprovedforusewithethanolblendedfuelsupto10%.E85fuelshouldneverbeused.KeyWest
recommendsusingnonethanolfuelswheneverpossibletoreducetheriskofmoistureretentioninthefuelsystem,especiallyinareasofhigh
heat/humidity.
Whenrefuelingthe230BR,whetherontraileroratamarina,thepressurizedsystemwillpreventoverfilling.Duringfueling,checktoensureairis
escapingfromthetankventonthestarboardside.Anyblockageofthevent,ventlineand/ororificelinewillprematurelytriggertheshutoffon
thefuelnozzleandwillpreventyoufromfillingthetankcompletely.
DuetotheemissionrequirementsoftheEPA,certifiedfueltanksandsystemswillnotfilltothetopofthetank.Instead, therewillbeaullage in
thetop10%ofthetank.Thespecifiedcapacityofthetank(100Gallons)accountsforthisullage,howeveritisimportanttonotethatfuelsenders
donotaccountforthis.Therefore,fillingthetankto100Gallonswillnotindicate“Full”onthegauge.Whenusingyourboat,itisagoodpractice
tokeepalogandarunningcountofhowmuchfuelyou’veused.Donotrelyonthefuelgaugeexclusivelyasvariationswill occur.
RawWaterSystem(Livewells)
The230BRfeaturesarawwatersystemfortheaftandforwardlivewells,optionalleaningpostlivewell,optionalrawwaterwashdown systemand
optionalaftlivewell recirculatingsystem.
RawWaterSupply
The230BRfeaturesatwohighspeedventuri pickupsforrawwaterintake.Thepickupsincorporateaseacock.Beforeusingtheboat,itisimportantto
notethelocationoftheseacocksandthemeanstoachieveaccesstothem.Intheeventofaruptureinarawwaterlineorpumpthatallowsunrestricted
flowofwaterintothebilge,shuttingtheseacockwillbecritical.Seacocksshouldbecheckedperiodicallyandthevalvesmovedtoverifyoperationand
unrestrictedmovement.Ifproblemsarefound,theyshouldbeaddressedimmediatelybyyourdealer.
ForwardandAftLivewell FillSystem
Therearetwo800GPHlivewell pump.Theyaredirectlymountedtotheseacocks.Theportpumpprovidesrawwatertotheforwardlivewell.The
starboardpumpprovidesrawwatertheaftlivewell andtheoptionalleaningpostlivewell.Thepumpshaveanindependentswitchesandcircuit
breakers(SeeElectricalSchematics).Tousethelivewells,itisimportanttocheckandverifytheseacocksareopen.Failuretoopentheseacocksmay
resultinpumpfailureifthepumpisrundryforanextendedperiodoftime.Thelivewell pumpshaveapressureregulatorthatwillshutthepumpoffif
thelivewell fillvalvesarenotopen.Iftraileringtheboatorusingtheboatafteranextendedperiodofdowntime,itwillbenecessarytoprimethe
pumps.Beforeactivatingthepumps,makesurethelivewell fillvalvesareopenandthanswitchonthepumps.Whenthesystemisfreeofair,youcan
eithershutthefillvalveinthelivewells orshutoffthepumps.Itisimportanttocheckthelivewell pumpsannuallyandperiodicallysprayit/themwitha
corrosioninhibitor.
AftLivewell RecirculatingPump(Optional)
The230BRcanbeequippedwitharecirculatingpumpfortheaftlivewell.Arecirculatingpumpisapumpthatpullswaterfromthebottomofthe
livewell,aeratesitandthanreturnsittothetopofthelivewell.Thenormallivewell systemdoesthis,howeveritiscontinuouslyreplacingwaterby
drawingitfromtherawwaterintake.Indeeperwater,thisisthebestwaytokeepwaterfreshandcool.However,whenoperatinginshallowwater
wherethewaterismuddyorsandy,therecirculatingpumpallowsyoutorecirculateandaeratecleanwatersothatyouarenotdrawingindirtywater
thatcouldharmyourbait.Inthe230BR,therecirculatingpumpismounteddirectlytotheaftsideofthelivewell.Thereturnfromthepumpisinthe
topaftcornerofthelivewell.Thepumpisan800GPHpumpandhasanindependentswitchandcircuitbreaker(SeeElectricalSchematic).Thepump
willprimeitselfwheneverwaterisabovetheintakescreenofthepump.Tousethepump,activatetheswitch.Thereareno valvestoopen.Waterwill
begincirculatingimmediatelyprovidedthereisenoughwaterinthelivewell.Neverrunthepumpwithoutasufficientamountofwaterinthelivewell.
Runningthepumpdryforextendedperiodsoftimemaydamagethepumpresultinginfailure.Watershouldbeabovetheinletscreenwhenusingthe
pump.Therecirculatingpumpcanberuninconjunctionwiththeaftlivewell pumptoprovideincreasedcirculationandaeration,howeveritisnot
necessary.
LeaningPostLivewell (Optional)
Foranglerswhowantanadditionalandlargerlivewell,the230BRcanbeequippedwithaLivewell LeaningPost.TheLivewell LeaningPostprovides
greatflexibilitytoanglers,especiallytournamentanglersbecauseitallowstheaftlivewell tobeusedasreleasewelliftheywish,capableofcirculating
watereitherviathelivewell fillsystemand/ortheoptionalrecirculatingpump.Rawwatertothelivewell leaningpostissuppliedviathestarboard
livewell pump.AT‐Connectorisinstalledsothatrawwatercanbeusedbyboththeaftandleaningpostlivewell.Thelivewell featuresafillvalve,
identicaltotheforwardandaftlivewell.Thisallowsyoutofillandusetheaftlivewell,theleaningpostlivewell,orbothdependingonyourfishing
needs.TousetheLivewell LeaningPost,engagetheaftlivewell pumpandopenthefillvalveinthelivewell.
RawWaterSystem
StandardRawWaterWashSystem
The230BRisequippedwitharawwaterwashsystem.Thesystemusesthestarboardlivewell pumptoproviderawwatertotheprovidedwashdown
hose.Pleasenotethoughthatusingthesystemdoesnotallowuseoftheaftlivewell.Tousethesystem,unscrewthelivewell fillvalveintheaftlivewell
andthreadthehoseontotheinlet.Thelivewell pumpispressureregulatedsothatthepumpcanbelefton,evenwhennotusingthewashdown.If
traileringtheboatorusingtheboatafteranextendedperiodofdowntime,itwillbenecessarytoprimethesystem.Before activatingtheaftlivewell
pump,depressthenozzleonthewashdown hoseandthanswitchonthepump.Whenthesystemisfreeofairandasteadystreamofwateriscoming
fromthehose,thesystemisbled.
OptionalHighPressureWashdown system
The230BRcanbeequippedwithanoptionalhighpressure,rawwaterwashdown system.Thesystemisfedbyapumpthatislocatedintheaftendof
theporttransomdrystoragecompartment.Thepumpiscontrolledbyaswitchandcircuitbreaker(SeeElectricalSchematics).Waterissuppliedtothe
pumpoffoftheaccessoryportontheportlivewell pump(lowerhoseconnectiononthelivewell pump).Usingtherawwaterwashdown doesnot
requirethelivewell pumptobeonhowevertheportseacockmustbeopen.Failuretoopentheportseacockmayresultinpumpfailure/damageifthe
pumpisrundryforanextendedperiodoftime.Therawwaterpumpfeaturesanin‐linestrainerforcollectinganydebristhatcoulddamagethepump.
Thestrainershouldbecheckedbeforeusingthepump.Thestrainerfeaturesaclearcapforeasyinspection.Ifanydebrisisfound,removethestrainer
screenbyuntwistingtheclearcapandcleanthescreen.Thepumpfeaturesabuiltinpressureregulatorthatwillshutthepumpoffwhenpressureis
achievedinthesystem.Therawwaterwashdown faucetislocatedontheportsidesideunderthegunwhale cap,adjacenttotheportjumpseat.If
traileringtheboatorusingtheboatafteranextendedperiodofdowntime,itwillbenecessarytoprimethewashdown pump.Beforeactivatingthe
pump,openthewashdown faucetandthanswitchonthepump.Whenthesystemisfreeofair,youcaneitherclosethefaucetorshutoffthepump.Itis
importanttocheckthewashdown pumpannuallyandperiodicallysprayitwithacorrosioninhibitor.
SystemOperationandMaintainence
Whenusinganyofthetwo/threerawwaterpumps,itisimportanttopayattentiontothewateryouareoperatingtheboatin. Operatingthepumpsin
shallow/muddywaterorwaterwithhighamountsoffloatingdebrissuchasgrassortrashmayresultiningestionanddamagethepumps.Lossof
pressureinpumpsmaybetheresultofcontainmentsblockingthethruhulls,bindingofthepumpsimpellor,cloggedstrainerbasketand/orblockagein
lines.Whenoperatinginthecontaminatedwater,checkthesupplyofandqualityofwatertothelivewells orwashdown frequently.Anylossof
pressureorflowshouldbeaddressedimmediatelytopreventdamage.Iffishingandinstalled,usetheaftlivewell recirculatingpumptocirculateand
aeratethewatersothatyoucancontinuetofishwithfreshbaitwithoutworryofdamagingtherawwaterpumps.
Fresh WaterSystem
FreshWaterSupply
Freshwaterisstoredina6gallontanklocatedundertheconsolefloor,directlybelowtheconsolecoolerbox.Accesstothetankisachievedthrougha
hatchinsidetheconsole.Thetankfeaturesafillline,ventlineandsupplyline.Thesefittingsshouldbecheckedannually. Itiscriticalthatonlypotable
waterbeusedinthetank.Failuretodosowillrequireoverhauloftheentirefreshwatersystem.
FreshWaterFillandVent
Thefreshwatertankisfilledfromafilldeckplatemarked“WATER”.Itislocatedonthestarboardsideoftheconsolecooler seat.Beforefillingthetank,
verifythequalityofthewaterandmakesureareaaroundthefillisfreeofcontainmentsthatcouldenterthetank.Whilefilling,verifythetankisventing
throughthetankventwhichislocatedonthefrontsideofconsoleseat.Anabsenceofairescapingfromtheventmayindicate ablockageorkinkinthe
ventline.Thiswillresultinthetankfailingtofillallthewaywhichwillshowinwaterflowingoutofthefillwellbeforecomingoutofthevent.Itwill
alsodiminishtheperformanceofthefreshwatersystemasablockedventwillcreateavacuuminthetankaswaterisused,therebyresultinginless
watertothepump,continuouscyclingofthepumpandlossofwaterpressure.Thiscouldultimatelyresultindamagetothepump.Checktheventline
periodicallytoensuretherearenokinksorblocks.
Washdown Pump
Thefreshwaterwashdown systemisfedbyapumpthatislocatedadjacenttothewatertank.Thepumpiscontrolledbyaswitchandcircuitbreaker
(SeeElectricalSchematics).Waterissuppliedtothepumpfromthetankoutletlocatedonthebottomofthetankandisgravityfedfromtheweightof
thewaterinthetank.Thisallowsall6gallonstobeused.Thefreshwaterpumpfeaturesanin‐linestrainerforcollectinganydebristhatcoulddamage
thepump.Thestrainershouldbecheckedperiodicallyandfeaturesaclearcapforeasyinspection.Ifanydebrisisfound, removethestrainerscreenby
untwistingtheclearcapandcleanthescreen.Thepumpfeaturesabuiltinpressureregulatorthatwillshutthepumpoffwhen pressureisachievedin
thesystem.Thefreshwaterwashdown faucetislocatedontheportsideunderthegunwhale cap,justforwardoftheconsole.Ifthesystemhasnot
beenusedforaperiodoftime,itmaybenecessarytoprime/bleedthesystemofanyair.Beforeactivatingthepump,openthefreshwaterwashdown
faucetandthanswitchonthepump.Whenthesystemisfreeofair,youcaneitherclosethefaucetorshutoffthepump.Itisimportanttocheckthe
washdown pumpannuallyandperiodicallysprayitwithacorrosioninhibitor.
HardtopMisterPump(Optional)
Asanoptionalupgradeforboatswithhardtops,the230BRcanbeequippedwithamistersystem.TheMistersystemusesitsownpump,separatefrom
thefreshwaterwashdown pump.Thefreshwaterpumpdoesnotneedtobeontousethemistersystem.Thepumpislocatedadjacenttothefresh
waterpumpintheconsole.Thepumpiscontrolledbyaswitchandcircuitbreaker(SeeElectricalSchematic).Freshwaterissuppliedtothemister
pumpfromaT‐Connectorinthemainsupplylinefromthetank.Themisterpumpfeaturesanin‐linestrainerforcollectinganydebristhatcould
damagethepump.Thestrainershouldbecheckedperiodicallyandfeaturesaclearcapforeasyinspection.Ifanydebrisisfound,removethestrainer
screenbyuntwistingtheclearcapandcleanthescreen.Thepumpdoesnotfeatureapressureregulatorandwillruncontinuouslywhenswitchedon.
SystemOperationandMaintainence
Onlyusepotablefreshwaterinthesystem.Alwaysverifythereissufficientquantityofwaterinthetankbeforeactivatingeitherthewashdown or
mistersystem.Insufficientwaterquantitywillcausethepumpstorundryandmayleadtofailure/damage.Beforeusingthe freshwatersystemforthe
firsttimeonthewater,fillthetankandcycleallthewaterouttoensurethetankiscleanandfreeofcontainmainents.Afterwardscheckstrainer(s)for
debrisandcleanifnecessary.
DrainageSystem
GeneralOverview
Allwaterinthe230BRisdrainedeitherviagravityorpump.Itiseitherdraineddirectlyoverboardortotheaftbilgewhere itcanbedrainedouteither
viathegarboarddrainplugorthebilgepump.Itisimportanttocheckthedrainagesystemfrequentlytoverifywaterflows freely,hosesaresecureand
therearenoleaks.Thedrainsanddischargepumpsareasfollowsstartingatthebow:

FloorDrainOverview
Twoofthemostimportantpiecesofequipmentonyour230BRarethecockpitfloordrainsastheiroperationisintegralto
yoursafetyonthewater.At1‐1/2”indiameter,theyaredesignedtoallowmassivequantitiesofwatertoleavethecockpitof yourboatina
veryshortperiodoftimeintheeventofaswampingorextremedownfloodingevent.Allthedrainsinyour230BRoperatethisway,
however,thefloordrainsaredesignedsothatwatercanonlyflowinonedirection;outofyourboat.Thedrainfeaturesauniquedesign
thatactslikeacheckvalvetherebypreventingbackflowofwaterintothecockpitofyourboat.
Thedesignofthedrainanditsoperationissolelydependentonthefoamballandsealring.Anydegradationinthefoamwill
compromisetheballsabilitytosealagainstthesealring.Therefore,donotapplypowerwashersoranycleaningchemicalsdirectlytothe
drainareaasthiswillcompromisethefoamintheball.Whenusingchemicalcleanersinyourboatsinterior,useasufficientquantityof
watertodilutethechemical(s)whensprayingoffsothattheydonotaffectthefoamballwhendrainingout.
Thesealringneedstobekeptfreeofdebrissothatfoamballwillsealflush.Thedrainfeaturesagratesothatdebriscannot
flowintothedrain.Intheeventthatasufficientamountofdebriscollectsaroundtheseal,thegrateandtopofthedrainassemblycanbe
removed.Useaspannerwrenchtounscrewthetopofthedrainandcleanthedrainassembly.Thiswillalsoprovideaccesstothefoam
ballwhichcanthanberemovedandreplacedifnecessary.Onlydothisifitbecomesevidentthatballisnotsealingproperly. Thiswillbe
manifestedbysmallamountsofwatercomingthroughthedrainwhentheboatissittingatrestinthewater.DONOT removethedrain
whiletheboatisinthewater.
Undernormalconditionswhen
thethruhullsareabovewater,
theballisbelowthesealring
therebyallowingwatertoflow
outofthecockpitand
overboard
Wheneverthethruhullsare
submergedbelowwater,back
pressuresealsballagainstsealring,
creatingawatertightsealand
preventsbackflowofwaterfromthe
thruhulls.
ElectricalSystem
GeneralOverview
The230BRisequippedwitha12VDCElectricalsystemthatcanbeequippedwithanoptionalACbatterycharger.
The230BRcanonlyberiggedforasinglemotor.Iftheboatisriggedwithoutanoptionalbatteryselectorswitch,theboat willberiggedforx1Group27
battery.Ifthebatteryselectorswitchisinstalled,theboatwillberiggedforx2Group27batteries.KeyWestrecommendsthisoptionforthosewho
wishtoinstallanoptionalwindlasstotheirboatduetothehighpowerdemand.Thebattery(s)willprovidepowertotheengine,houseandoptional
windlasssystem.
Allbatteriesandfinalelectricalriggingwillbeperformedbyyourdealerpriortodelivery.Pleaseconsultwithyourdealerregardingthebatteryinstallation
ofyourboatpriortotakingdeliveryofyourboat
12Vpowerisdistributedtothe12Vfactoryinstalledsystemsthroughindividualcircuitbreakerslocatedbeneaththeirrespectiveswitchesonthemain
switchpanels.All12Vsystemsaregroundedindividuallytoagroundingblocklocatedinsidetheconsole.Thegroundingblockisthangrounded
directlytoabattery.A30ampmaincircuitbreakerisinstalledintheconsoletoprotectthehousesystemsfromoverloadandisconnectedeither
directlytothebatteriesortheoptionalbatteryselectorswitch.Additionalcircuitbreakersfortheautobilgepumpsandstereomemoryarewired
directlytoeitherthebatteryorbatteryselectorswitch.Thesystemisdesignedsothatturningthebatteryswitch/switchesoffwillstillallowthebilge
pumpstofunctioninanautomaticmode.KeyWestrecommendsthatboatsthataregoingtobeleftinthewaterorinaboatlift,whereaccesstothe
drainplugisnotfeasible,beinstalledwithabatterychargertopreventdischargebythebilgepumps.TrimTabsandoptional powersteeringare
connecteddirectlytothebatteryandfeatureovercurrentprotection.Theydonotenergizeuntiltheengineignitionswitchisturnedtothe“On”position.
BatteryCharger
Asanoption,abatterychargercanbeinstalledthatwillchargeoneorbothbatteries,dependingontheinstallation.ThebatterychargerconvertsAC
powerintoDCpowerthatisusedtochargethebatteries.Thechargerispoweredbyaplugontheconsolethatreceivesastandard110Vplugfromthe
femaleendofa110Vextensionchord.Itallowsyoutoplugtheboatintoaregular110Voutlet.
ElectricalSystemMaintenance
Allconnectionsintheelectricalharnessfeaturedeutscheconnectorsandheatshrinkbuttconnectorstominimizecorrosion. KeyWestrecommends
thatallconnectionsandterminalsbecheckedatleasttwiceayearandsprayedwithacorrorsion inhibitingsprayatleastonceayeartoprotectand
