GLOBAL
LAUNCH OF
BATTERSEA
POWER
STATION
The brightest and best global
brands, businesses and restaurants
are sought to create a world-class
new urban quarter for London
A selection of amazing Gehry Partners
and Foster + Partners designed
homes to be available for sale
All set to go. Exhibitions will be held in London, Kuala Lumpur,
New York, Dubai, Paris, Los Angeles, Milan, Tokyo, Beijing,
Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Doha.
On behalf of the Battersea Power Station
shareholders, Battersea Power Station
Development Company (“BPSDC”) is taking
Battersea Power Station global with a worldwide
tour in October and November 2014 to 13 cities
in 11 countries. The aim is to find the most
exciting UK and global brands, businesses and
restaurants to bring alive London’s newest high
street and the capital’s largest and most central
development.
Phase 1 of the mixed-use scheme will open in
2016 and once the entire project is completed in
2025, the 42-acre development will be home to
25,000 people living and working on site. With
40 million visits anticipated each year, Battersea
Power Station will be one of the largest retail,
leisure and cultural complexes in central London,
with businesses on site forecast to contribute
almost £1 billion a year to the UK economy in
the first 20-years of operating.
From Friday 31 October, representatives from
the shareholders and BPSDC will host exhibitions
in London, Kuala Lumpur, New York, Dubai,
Paris, Los Angeles, Milan, Tokyo, Beijing,
Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Doha.
To set Battersea Power Station apart in London,
design quality and best practice in community
development has been paramount. A world-class
team of architects including Wilkinson Eyre, Ian
Simpson Associates, dRMM, Foster + Partners,
Rafael Viñoly and Gehry Partners have been
appointed to deliver a carefully thought-out mix
of uses for the site that will blend to create an
exciting place to live, visit and do business.

Now, businesses of a similarly
world-class calibre are to be
selected to lease the 3.5 million
sq.ft. of commercial space:
•250 retail and food &
beverage outlets planned
for the development, with
the first 40 operators to
open in late 2016 in Circus
West (Phase 1). Drawing
inspiration from the best of
London’s shopping ‘villages’
- Shoreditch, Soho and
Marylebone High Street,
both independent and highend retailers across the 42acre site will be encouraged
to offer experiential and
unique propositions to
enhance the Battersea
experience.
•115 retail and food &
beverage units will be set in
the show-stopping setting
of the Power Station, over
the ground, upper ground
and first floors of the Boiler
House and the two Turbine
Halls. In addition, a 30,000
sq. ft. fashion hub of new
London graduate talent will
be developed to aid and
nurture design, business
development, showcasing
and the art of selling.
•Phase 3 of the development
will see more than 50 large
retail and food & beverage
units open in 2020 to
create London’s newest
high street designed by
Foster + Partners and Frank
Gehry. The high street is
the southern pedestrian
gateway, linking the new
Northern Line extension with
the rest of the development.
•Across the site, food &
beverage operators will offer
their fare through a range of
concepts - from food stalls,
pop-ups, cafes, fine dining
and food markets. In the
Power Station a whole floor
will be devoted to a bespoke
mix of food and beverage
brands in a new collective
style for customers to enjoy.

•Leasing the state-of-the-art leisure facilities
including a new 2,000 capacity Riverside
event venue for London located within
the middle floors of the central Boiler
House of the Power Station; two boutique
hotels, 60-rooms in the Power Station
and 167-rooms in the Foster + Partners
designed Battersea Roof Gardens building; an
observation lift and viewing platform planned
for the North West chimney of the Power
Station; cinemas, music venues, members
clubs and health and fitness.
•With over 1.62 million sq. ft. of office space
to lease across the 42-acre development,
Battersea Power Station will become London’s
newest office quarter. Building on the success
along the rest of the South Bank, six flexible
upper floors of the central Boiler House in
the Power Station itself are available for
lease. The total area intended for office
space is similar to that of The Gherkin in the
City of London. These larger than average
floor plates at around 80,000 sq. ft., are
set to attract businesses from the creative
industries.
Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, Chairman of the Battersea Project Holding Company Limited,
said: “The shareholders’ ambition for Battersea Power Station is to create an
amazing new urban quarter for London and one that is enjoyed both day and night.
This is behind the drive to find the very best mix of UK and world-wide businesses
to lease over 3 million sq. ft. of retail and office accommodation.”
Rob Tincknell, CEO of BPSDC, said: “The Power Station is unique, having a
very powerful existing brand profile. Together with other leading global retail
and business brands, we believe this combination will create a truly world-class
destination and a significant addition to the fabric of London.”
Retailers, leisure operators and businesses looking to explore the commercial
opportunities at Battersea Power Station at the exhibitions planned around the
world, are invited to register their interest at www.batterseapowerstation.co.uk
As part of the tour, there will also be an opportunity for people to purchase 539 of
the 1,305 Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners designed homes in Phase 3 of the
development, which will be part of London’s newest pedestrianised high street the southern gateway to the Power Station. Any remaining homes in Circus West
(Phase 1) and the Grade II* listed Power Station (Phase 2) will also be available for
sale.
The 310 Gehry Partners designed homes in ‘Prospect Place’ and the 229 Foster +
Partner homes in the ‘Battersea Roof Gardens’ building will be made available to
the public via a first-come, first-served sales programme that will start from Friday
31 October in London and the first wave of cities to be visited – Kuala Lumpur,
New York, Paris, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai. Register at www.
batterseapowerstation.co.uk from Friday 5 September to be best placed to find out
more about the exhibitions and further details on the homes as they are released.
Both architectural practices are developing stunning interiors for their larger than
average homes that range from studios to four-bedroom town houses and a small
number of penthouses. Almost every home being brought to market has private
outdoor space in the form of a winter garden, balcony or terrace. Full details on the
interiors will be released nearer to the time of sale, together with a guide price.

Feng made up for the disappointment of last week in China to
dominate the final round of the tournament, shooting two birdies
on the front nine, four on the back nine plus an eagle on the par
five 17th. Speaking after the tournament, a happy but exhausted
Feng said:
“Last week I was defending champion in China and I did really
bad. So coming into this week, I had no pressure at all. Even
though this morning until like the 17th hole I still didn’t think I
was going to win. What I was doing was just to focus on every
shot and just try to do my best and hope that putts can fall.
That’s all I did.” Adding, “When I win, I’m usually not leading after
the first and second round. I like to come from behind. I had no
pressure at all today.”
Asked how it felt to win in Malaysia for the first time, Feng added,
“I really love this tournament. We have to thank our sponsor,
Sime Darby, to have this chance to come to Malaysia every year.
I’ve had a very good record here. Maybe just one time I was out
of the top ten, but then I was top ten all the time. Last year I
came close. I was second. So this year I improved. I can say I
improved one shot!”
Shanshan Feng
CHINA’S FENG WINS
SIME DARBY LPGA
MALAYSIA 2014
China’s Shanshan Feng won the fifth edition of the Sime Darby
LPGA Malaysia in emphatic style today, equaling the low
round score of the day of eight under par, to finish three shots
ahead of overnight leader Pornanong Phatlum on the East
Course of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
12
Sime Darby Property Window
For overnight leader Pornanong Phatlum from Thailand, it just
wasn’t to be. Despite pulling out a four shot lead at the top of the
leader board earlier in the round, it came undone for her when
she hit the water, double-bogeying the par three 15th.
She added: “I feel happy that I have a good week this week.
Today just didn’t make the putt today, but hit it very good today
still. Yeah, still is a good week.” Reflecting on hole 15, she added,
“I think I just hit to the left. Yeah, just hit very good and then
just like go over the green.”
In third place, at fourteen shots under par were Sweden’s Pernilla
Lindberg, who equaled Feng’s eight under par low round of the
day, So Yeon Ryu from the Republic of Korea and Chella Choi from
Taiwan. Speaking about a round that included four consecutive
birdies on both the front and back nine holes, Lindberg, said, “I
had two kind of really good stretches in there. I started off with
four straight birdies. Holed three, four, five and six, and then kind
of did a similar thing towards the end with four straight birdies. I
haven’t really been enough on the greens earlier in the week, and
today I decided that I was really going to try to make sure I got
all my putts there. I gave myself good chances and I was rolling it
good and they all dropped in.”

Among the Malaysian contingent it was Michelle
Koh who left fans wondering what might have
been. Shooting an impressive five under par for
the day, Koh tied with LPGA Tour professional Kelly
Tan for honours among the six Malaysian Angels
competing in this year’s tournament. The pair
finished at two over par and tied in 49th place –
an improvement on Koh’s position of 60 in 2013.
If it hadn’t been for her form in Round Three,
compounded by a two stroke penalty for
accepting a lift from a course marshal following
a convenience break, the 23 year old Koh would
have finished even further up the table.
Reflecting on the tournament, Koh said, “On a
scale of one to ten, [I’d] probably give myself a
7.5. There were a lot of things I think I could
have done better, like I should have known not
to get on the buggy [yesterday]. But definitely
it’s a great experience and it was a good lesson.
Definitely I have learned a lot from this week.
I’ve learned that golf is fun if you let it be fun.
If you want to make it tough for yourself, then
it’ll be a tough sport.”
Kelly Tan added, “Just it’s my first year back
home playing as a professional in the hometown.
I knew there was a lot of pressure, and I know
already way before the event I was just telling
myself just try to go out and enjoy myself. That
was the only thing I struggled with, because I
took it really seriously. I wanted to do good.
Every time things didn’t come my way I try to
fight it, and I thought I should just stay back
and relax and still smile out there no matter
what happened. If I still have the opportunity to
play out here next year, I’m just going to go out
there and really, really enjoy myself and do not
care what happens. I felt really fortunate to be
out there.”
Reflecting on the tournament, Chairman of Sime
Darby Foundation, Tun Masa Hitam, said, “We
extend our congratulations to Shanshan Feng on
a wonderful performance and a well-deserved
victory at this year’s Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
She has shown great skill and consistency over
the last four days and has been a joy to watch
at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. The
fifth year anniversary of the tournament has
been a first class spectacle on the golf course
and a wonderful celebration off it.”
On behalf of the Sime Darby Foundation, I would like
to thank all those who have made the 2014 edition
of the tournament such a memorable occasion, in
particular our partners at the LPGA Tour, our friends
at Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation and
tournament organisers IMG.

“On behalf of the Sime Darby Foundation, I
would like to thank all those who have made
the 2014 edition of the tournament such a

spectators who have embraced this tournament
so enthusiastically over the years and we look
forward to welcoming everybody back in 2015.”
On behalf of tournament organiser, Grant
Slack, Senior Vice-President IMG Golf AsiaPacific, added,”The 2014 edition of the Sime
Darby LPGA Malaysia has once again raised
the bar for golf tournaments in the region. The
combination of the on-course action and the
off-course entertainment has provided fans with
a first class spectacle and a fitting celebration
for the tournament’s fifth anniversary. We offer
our congratulations to Shanshan on a fantastic
victory and look forward to seeing her defend
her title back at KLGCC in a year’s time.”

With a Prime Ministerial endorsement of the
tournament ringing loud in spectator’s ears
and the five year anniversary celebrations
drawing to a close, Malaysia’s premier ladies golf

Malaysia concluded on the East Course at
KLGCC. 75 players competed in the 72-hole

In a move to further inculcate sustainability
culture among Sime Darby Property (SDP)
employees, the Sustainability & Quality
Management Department has introduced a new
quarterly initiative called “Sustainability Chit
Chat” - a one-hour knowledge-sharing program
set in an informal atmosphere where a wellknown Malaysian personality is invited to share
tips and life experience on how one can adopt a
sustainable lifestyle.
The inaugural session led by well-known local
celebrity, Maya Karin was held on 15 October
2014 at the Sime Darby Leadership Centre.
Maya Karin
Chats About Sustainability

in the subject matter and her ability to relate
her experience with practical tips on living
sustainably on a daily basis.
An environmentalist herself, Maya clearly
understood the objectives of the program and
what the audience wanted; and she did not
disappoint in the one-hour chat session. She
kept her session interactive and the crowd of 60
employees who attended the event was clearly
enthralled by her charm and the engaging
delivery of her sustainability story.
Sharing with the audience on how she was
exposed to green living at an early age, Maya
said, “My mother is very strict about electricity
usage in the house. I never left a room without
turning off the electricity. I also invested in
a Rainwater Harvesting System and use the
water to water the garden. It may be expensive
initially, but in the long run you will save on your
bills and of course, you reduce water wastage”,
she added.
Besides sharing her passion on environmental
causes and animal protection, Maya also talked
about her own ‘MayaLovesNature’ campaign
– an initiative that involved about 22,000
schoolchildren from 14 different primary schools
in Malaysia targeting awareness of excessive use
and waste of plastic bags.
Maya also highlighted to the audience on how
they too can play a role to save the environment
and give back to mother earth and what
they can do to educate their children to live
sustainably.
But what kept the chat session going with
encouraging participation from the audience was
clearly Maya’s sincerity and genuine interest
“Hopefully the audience will see the
‘Sustainability Chit Chat’ session as a platform
that can provide them with continuous
learning to help equip them to become more
knowledgeable about the subject of sustainable
living”, added Maya before ending her session.

SIME DARBY PROPERTY’S
T.R.E.E PROGRAM
A HIT IN PUTRA
HEIGHTS
The greenery of Sime Darby Property’s Putra Heights township was further
enhanced when more than 500 participants planted 150 threatened trees inconjunction with the company’s T.R.E.E program.
T.R.E.E is the acronym for ‘Together in Restoring the Earth’s Environment’,
a program launched by Sime Darby Property (SDP) in 2012 to cement its
commitment to work together with its residents and the governing local authorities
to create greater awareness among the community, especially children on the
importance of environmental conservation. The event at Putra Heights marked the
sixth in a series of programs held in SDP’s townships.
The three types of threatened trees that were planted consisted of Agathis
dammara (Damar minyak), Dryobalanops aromatica (Kapur) and Hopea odorata
(Merawan siput jantan).
The event was graced by the presence of Tuan Haji Abdullah bin Marjunid,
Timbalan Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) as the Guest of
Honour, Encik Syaril Abdullah of Putra Heights Residents Association, Mr. Raymond
Chong, Head, Region 1, Property Development Malaysia, Sime Darby Property and
also senior officials from both Sime Darby Property and MPSJ.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tuan Haji Abdullah,
Timbalan Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran
Subang Jaya (MPSJ) said, “The tree-planting
program will not only create a more sustainable
and greener township but will also contribute
towards a healthier, safer and more comfortable
living environment which will ultimately improve
the overall community’s well-being.”
“Such a program will also strengthen the
friendship between neighbours and would
indirectly promote awareness among us that
the neighbourhood greening responsibility is a
collective responsibility”, he further added.
According to En. Haznidan Mahmud, Head
of Township Putra Heights, “The T.R.E.E
program is focused towards the young;
specifically targeted for children to
ensure they are cultivated with the right
mentality, qualities and responsibilities
of protecting the environment as they are
rightfully the ones who will inherit the
20

earth in the future. We also believe that treeplanting is a simple and effective approach to
attract families to participate and learn more
about conserving the environment as well as
preventing the threatened trees from going into
extinction. We are pleased to be leading the
T.R.E.E program across our townships.”
Besides tree-planting, the participants were also
treated to three other “green-themed” activities
such as Batik colouring, thumb printing and

Green Hearties Reinforce Their
Understanding of Renewable Energy
at Renewable Energy Workshop
What is renewable energy? What is
photovoltaic? Where does energy come
from? Why should we use renewable
energy?
These questions asked by the Green
Hearties were comprehensively answered
when they attended the Renewable
Energy (RE) Workshop held at the
National Science Centre, Kuala Lumpur
on 27 September 2014 as part of the
activities under the Sime Darby Property
Young Sustainability Ambassador
Program.
The RE workshop aimed to educate
the Green Hearties on the concept and
importance of renewable energy, raise
awareness about the possibilities of
renewable energy and teach them to
understand why renewable energy is the
way forward for a prosperous future.

The workshop participants were divided into two groups to ensure an easier
comprehension and a more effective learning session. One group comprised of
secondary school-going children and the other primary school going children.
The learning process was made even more interesting and interactive when the
Green Hearties were given the opportunity to try their hands on advanced training
kits to assist their understanding on the principles of renewable energy, energy
conversion and to discover how electrical energy is produced using Photovoltaic
(Solar) and Wind.
According to Encik Pouzi Che Nik, Head of SQM Department, one of the objectives
of the workshop is also to develop early awareness for these Young Sustainability
Ambassador on the importance of renewable energies, their availability and how
they function. They are after all the change agents who will influence their peers
and families alike in advocating the Sime Darby Property (SDP) sustainability
agenda.
“I am glad that my parent encouraged me to join in the workshop as I now have a
better understanding about electricity and solar energy. We were also taught about
wind energy, turbines and the influence of changing wind speeds” said Muhammad
Adam Baqir Shah, 16 years old, son of Sharifah Bismayazan Sadeik Husin Shah
from Main SDP’s Infra/Landscape department.
While some may find the subject of renewable energy quite tough in the beginning,
the fun environment and the advanced teaching kits used in the workshop made
learning about the subject matter so much easier in the end. The workshop
concluded, with the presentation of Certificates of Attendance to each one of the
Green Hearties.

On the weekend of 1 November 2014, 26
Green Hearties and their chaperones stuck their
hands and feet into the muddy mangrove of
Kuala Selangor to do the environment some
good as part of Sime Darby Property’s ‘Young
Sustainability Ambassador’ programme. The
Green Hearties, aged 12 to 17 years old,
travelled from Sime Darby Property office at
Oasis Square on a mission to plant 41 mangrove
tree saplings at Kuala Selangor Nature Park.

PLANTING WITH
GREEN HEARTIES

The visit was aimed at educating the Green
Hearties on the importance of the mangrove
ecosystem and to learn first-hand about the flora
and fauna unique to this habitat, which included
the silvered leaf monkey (Presbytis cristata) and
mudskipper.
The young ones were treated to an educational
talk by Mr Ashok, Lead Tour Guide from
the Malaysian Nature Society and viewed
a video on the Kuala Selangor Nature Park
and its mangrove ecosystem. They learnt
how mangrove trees help to protect land
being ravaged by a tsunami which would
otherwise wreak havoc along coastlines. They
also discovered that 1 hectare of mangrove
ecosystem can absorb 701.5 tonnes of carbon
dioxide per year on average, thus providing a
buffer against global warming.
“We were really happy to get a first-hand look
at the endangered silvered leaf monkey with
its offspring during the tour. The baby silvered
leaf monkey is very unique because of its bright
orange colour. We also had the chance to get
muddy and learn how to plant a mangrove tree”,
said 13 year old Nurin Shazana Azilan, daughter
to Sime Darby Property’s Puan Isma Liza Idham.
After the tree planting and guided tour, the
Green Hearties were tested to assess and
reinforce knowledge garnered from their day out
in nature. The test would also serve to measure
and assess the overall effectiveness of the YSA
programme. As part of the YSA programme,
the Green Hearties also learnt the importance
of recycling and how to make recycled greeting
cards from old newspaper at home.
At the end of the day, the Green Hearties were
tired but satisfied in knowing that the 41 trees
they planted would play a part in absorbing
carbon dioxide and reducing the impact of
global warming. Congratulations to the amazing
young Green Hearties and their chaperones from
Sime Darby Property making a difference in
environmental preservation!

PLANTING TREES,
PLANTING KNOWLEDGE PROGRAMME
Volunteers recently visited Sekolah Kebangsaan (Sek. Keb.)
USJ 12 and Sek. Keb. Wangsa Melawati for the ‘Planting Trees,
Planting Knowledge’ activity under the Sime Darby Volunteers
Programme.
With Sek. Keb. USJ 12 and Sek. Keb. Wangsa Melawati located
within Sime Darby Property’s townships, the volunteers were sent
to both schools on August 28 and October 31 respectively to help
students better understand how to make the world a greener
place. Volunteers helped 80 students from each school plant 50
fruit trees and 78 ornamental trees at a dedicated area within their
school compound. Teachers as well as representatives from the
Department of Environment were also present to help the children
plant trees. It was a valuable experience for the students as it gave
them the opportunity to be physically involved in a group planting
activity and to also learn more about the environment.
Encik A. Rahim Mohd Mislani, Head Master of Sek. Keb. USJ12,
said, “The students involved in this activity did not only enjoy the
task at hand but also learnt how to improve their environment. The
students gained a lot from working together with adults and friends
from various backgrounds. In years to come, these students can
proudly look back and tell their children how they had planted
those trees and encourage them to continue what they started.”

Meanwhile,Fareeda Balqis and Muiz, Year 2
students of Sek. Keb. Wangsa Melawati, said
“Though it was a very muddy lesson outside of
class, we enjoyed being part of the activities
where we were taught how to plant trees. We
are happy to know that we have done our part in
helping the environment.”
One of the volunteers, Mr Lo Chee Kheong,
Technical Services Division, Sime Darby Offshore
Engineering, said, “Although the weather was
wet with some rain, it didn’t dampen our spirits
and together with the students of Sek. Keb. USJ
12, we were glad to help plant more trees. As
one of the Tree Captains under the Sime Darby
Volunteers Programme, I am pleased to be able to
help these young ones be more conscious about
the environment.”
Thanks to our volunteers’ enthusiasm, we
managed to plant 128 saplings and have achieved
111.5 volunteer hours to date. This would not
have been possible without the Planting Trees,
Planting Knowledge Programme.

trees in the urban city, Sime Darby Property
recently joined forces with Kuala Lumpur City
Hall’s (DBKL) Greener KL Initiative under the
NKEA to plant record number of fruit trees within
city limits.
While everyone else was busy making plans for
the weekend, Sime Darby Property volunteers
made their way to Kolam Takungan Banjir Batu

The initiative was a big hit in the private sector,
especially among property developers as a
means of giving back to nature. There were a
total of 29 companies which participated in the
Greener KL Initiative and over 1,100 volunteers
got their hands dirty throughout the initiative
officiated by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, YBhg.
