Our COMPANY’S Mission
I started working at Parkway back in 1971. It was
our first year in business and all Suzuki street
motorcycles were only 2 stroke engines. Honda
was just coming into popularity and we were selling BMW’s and Moto Guzzi’s, too. At one point
we even became a MAX Dealer selling an amphibious 6 wheeler
that could float on water! We acquired our First Honda Franchise
at Parkway by accepting to order 50 Honda rototillers. Back then,
Honda & Honda Power Equipment division were the same. We also
got to order the ever popular iconic CB series with revolutionary
dependable 4 cycle engines and 4 cylinders in line. It was a first for
Honda. The CB550 Four and CB750 Four were all the rage. I remember spending many days and months assembling these babies.

The early 1970’s in Boston was electric! The music, the cars, and the

have taught me over the years. I love you both! Now, back to Parkway. As time went on, my Dad, Ralph Cerundolo saw opportunity to
expand the Honda Franchise to 916 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston
across from Boston University. In 1973, we took over and reopened
the new Honda of Boston on Comm Ave!
We are here for the long haul and

It was the hay day for everything! Name it and it was going on in
Boston. We could see the entire Prudential Building from our front
window. I remember the band Aerosmith lived right up the street
and a new radio station called WBCN was broadcasting live from
the top of the Pru! I met all sorts of celebrities during our years at
HOB and I started my selling career and training under sales managers named Scott Funk and Bob Kay. Those were the days!
I think it’d be best to end my story here for now. All I can say is we
had an absolute blast! Growing up in Boston selling motorcycles in
the 70’s was awesome! I will forever cherish the memories and as
time allows, I will continue to share experiences with being raised
in this awesome industry now called Power Sports! Until next time.

A note from the
Assistant Editor
Having reached our third volume of the NEPS POST, I and the rest of our team
are finding a more natural rhythm with our meetings and general structure. I
began very much as an observer to the older, more experienced workers, but I
feel as though I now stand on a somewhat equal playing field. My work as an
assistant writer, editor, and illustrator continues in a newly expanded capacity.
The contributions I make have essentially remained the same, but I’ve recently
been taking a much more independent role, especially in terms of interviews
and transportation. My rapport with our company’s workers and affiliates has
developed greatly over these past several months, and it gives me a great sense
of self-satisfaction knowing that people are beginning to look at me as a more
active member of the NEPS community.
We will miss you Sanit.

We will always remember your talent of
“riding 2 motorcycles at once” with ease.
Last time I brought up my ongoing assistance in the work of fellow writer K.
Peddlar Bridges who I’m happy announce has at last published the final draft
of his book “Cycles!128: A History in Sheet Metal and Chrome”, an abridged
retelling of the company’s history. I had the distinct pleasure of making the
final revisions to the piece, as well as being one of the first individuals to read
the book in its entirety. With that I must say, it’s a fascinating read! While the
narrative may be condensed, it captures a number of important events in the
company’s foundation, and details how it came to be what it is today. This holds
a special significance as both my father and grandfather were main players in
the story. Straight forward in structure, it’s easily accessible to anybody with
an interest in the business. The fact alone that my name is on the cover speaks
volumes for my potential career opportunities, and remains a golden token on
my resume!
Though Peddlar has since taken more of a backseat as far as the POST itself goes,
my participation remains all the more involved, and I still find the experience
is assisting me in my own writing habits. Illustrations remain a responsibility,
and though this issue’s picture is on the simpler side, the message is clear. It’s no
secret that traditional art done by hand is a passion for me, and I still continue
to draw independently in my free time, in addition to consistently making
progress on my novel. The latter of which is coming along nicely. Naturally, this
will gain further prominence in the future. Until then, I look forward to the new
challenges ahead. Keep on riding!

Steve Keegan & Gido Braase

Mr. Steve Keegan’s interest in motorcycles began in his adolescence as he road his first bike, a Honda 50, at the age of twelve.
His professional work came just as he made his exit from high
school, spending the following two years at a Mercedes company. In 1974 he took a job at what was then Eastern Cycle Salvage
(later renamed after the Ducati brand). Due to the scarcity of
salvage based businesses it proved to be a quite active work environment allowing for plenty of hands-on experience.
Steve eventually went on to buy the company in 1979, and soon
thousands of bikes were being broken up for spare parts to be
sold to incoming customers and fellow riders.
In 1985 the company became a Ducati dealer, though Steve
still considered it a small side business rather than a main player. Come 1999, however, things ramped up when the company
added MV Agusta to their line. Along the way came Moto Guzzi,
Benelli, and Malaguti scooters. 2011 brought a meeting with
Rob Cerundolo, owner of Cycles!128, to whom Steve sold the
Ducati franchise. This was repeated the following year with the selling of MV Agusta. Steve spent a year or so helping out part time with the
transition of moving both brands over to Cycles. He then continued his work building customized motorcycles and restoring older models. These
hands-on solo projects had always been a true passion for him. He could get creative and experiment as he pleased, letting his knowledge and
imagination run wild with what he had to work with. In time Rob requested that Steve return to lend a helping hand with Ducati and MV Agusta
once more. He agreed and split the time between the two businesses with “Ducati 128”. His participation also led to an introduction to Gido
who became a regular collaborator of his.
Though still collecting oddball parts today, Steve has dropped all brands after the previous sales to Cycles. He managed to sell an entire warehouse worth of pre-owned parts to different businesses which shrank the company significantly. Steve has spent a long time in the motorcycle
industry, and still finds fun with his ongoing involvement which is showing no signs of ending any time soon. What else can you say? The man’s
doing what he loves!
Mr. Gido Braase’s interest in motorcycles was first sparked when he was eight years old as he enjoyed watching his father race BMW sidecars.
He soon received a firsthand opportunity at the sport in the form of a dirt bike which he practiced on up to the age of ten. For the following two
years he participated in races on frozen lakes in an “ice speedway” before eventually moving on to Junior Cup street racing in Europe where he
took control of an RD 250, as well as a 350.
Upon turning eighteen Gido traveled out to the islands after serving time in the military. There he took on the duel jobs of diving instructor and
photographer/videographer. This time was comprised of ten years in the Caribbean and six years in the South Pacific. One day Gido received a
knock to the head in the form of an attractive female which led to him waking up back in Massachusetts where the two were married.
Over the years Gido’s line of work expanded into film projects which led to him sharing time with director James Cameron. Among these were
Ocean Man, Battle of the Deep, and a couple of documentaries for ESPN. His experience in free diving proved invaluable in his work as their
exclusive photographer. With time, however, Gido found himself falling back into his old passion of racing Italian motorcycles such as custom
“Street Fighters”. Taking up work with the brands MV Agusta and Ducati, he was soon introduced to Steve with whom he began collaborating.
His participation included basic service, drawing up blueprints, and building motors (both for racing and street riding). In the industry he was
known as a Level 3 “Master Technician”.
Having started at Eastern Cycles before moving to Cycles!128, Gido plans to continue his work with the company for the next six years up until
his youngest daughter’s graduation. He will then sell off their house and all of his bikes, purchasing a boat in their place and taking off to the
South Pacific. There they will enjoy a naturalistic lifestyle, taking shelter in a hut and entertaining themselves with activities such as fishing and
diving. As Gido puts it, “Life can be simple and be happy”.

Suzuki LT125, the first mass produced 4 wheel ATV, or the Yamaha XS1100’s?
Well Denny was in the business when those were new. 36 years in the Industry,
complete customer service is his number one priority, and he never wants
anyone to leave the store with anything but the best experience he and his
staff can provide. Also New Englands #1 (and possibly the only) Cleveland
Browns fan. My motto is I truly wish I had everything in stock because I don’t
want anyone to be without their Motorcycle…ever. My staff here at GBM is the
best group I have ever worked with in my career, they listen to me, they learn
from me, and they do their very best to satisfy every client that walks through
the door. So swing on by on your next ride and meet us all, we are interested

I took the riding class at Cycles!128 10 years
ago. At the time, I didn’t know how to ride
at all. Just ridden a bit on the back of motorcycles. The class was a little nerve racking
and exhilarating all at the same time. I had
ridden bicycles quite a lot as a child growing up around town and owned some standard automobiles throughout my adulthood.
Perhaps that helped me take to motorcycle
riding. I definitely say for me, it was a blast
taking the class here. A friend and I took it
together so that was a real benefit for me as
well. It is nice to have the school here to offer
anyone who is interested in safety, learning
and wanting to get their motorcycle license.

Dear Cycles!128,
I just wanted to take a minute that thank the Motorcycle Riding School. The entire experience was exceptional, well put together and a tremendous
amount of fun. Laura did a great job for class room instruction. She provided many great real-world applications for what we were learning, without
making the class too daunting. She is a wonderful teacher.
In particular, I would like to commend Kurt on a incredible job on the range. He was patient, clear and informative; I feel confident that I will be riding
safely and effectively because of his instruction. On Sunday, he was faced with an extremely difficult situation with the other instructors cancellation.
Kurt handled the situation as a true professional. It would have been easier on him to bend the rules, but he stuck to the guidelines. His integrity and
professionalism is unquestionable, and provided a very positive and strong opinion of the course and by extension the shop. I would strongly recommend the course and shop to other people who want to learn how to ride.
I will be purchasing a bike in the next couple of months, and I will purchase my bike through Cycles!128. You can thank Kurt for this sale, it was his
integrity and professionalism that will make me a return customer.

This spring, I noticed oil under my Honda Metropolitan scooter. Not good. Cycles!128 diagnosed the problem. Fixed it. Returned it. Since the scooter
has 9,920 miles on it, one can expect there will be other minor problems.
Over the past two months, Mike Hunter and Frank Grasso consistently provided customer service one can expect at The Ritz. They’re patient (even when
I’m not), keep their word and stand by their work. I might have been without my scooter, but Mike and Frank kept me riding. Mark, who does pick up
and delivery, is equally as reliable. Patty at the switchboard is polite and helpful — a bonus in this hurry-up world.

I have been a customer here for a few years rebuilding my old bikes DR650 and a classic GL1200. I really like the parts guys they are really good with
advice and that can be priceless when your chasing a mechanical or electrical problem. I recently had a front tire installed, they took 20% off and
ended up beating the best online price I could find. The also gave me an inspection sticker. Helpfully noting a few maintenance items I should watch.
In the service department the guys have also taken time to give “free advice” all in good faith for a home mechanic like myself. I think they have taken
some heat in reviews in the past but they do a lot of business and you are bound to get some haters. You can never be safe enough with the mechanics
of a bike so do your maintenance or pay someone else but for christ sake don’t complain when you actually have to pay for it!

We got some pretty serious wind gusts in July
during the storms that passed through Arlington.
Check out the root system on this tree that
fell over, next door to GBM in Arlington on
Mass Ave. The picture makes it look worse
than it was. Luckily the tree fell away from our
building and only did moderate damage to our
fence and a couple if scooters. We are grateful
nobody was hurt.

BMW Motorcycles have been a part of John’s life from the beginning of his riding career when he acquired his 1974
BMW R90/6 (a great motorcycle by the way…one of BMW’s best). John lowered the handle bars (cafe style) and the
rest was history. When stopping by GBM/BMW MOTORCYCLES of Cambridge Service Center in Arlington, it was
nice to see a very crusty 1971 R60/5 up on Johnny’s lift! It was a sight to behold. As with many rough looking old
beemers, it didn’t need much in terms of repairs (you wouldn’t have known it judging by the very rough appearance
of the bike). A new battery and off she goes! Quick, simple and easy! We get many old beemers in for simple repairs
and maintenance that have 100,000 200,000 even 300,000 miles on them. This type of mileage is very common with

June has come and gone and June 21 was officially our 1 year anniversary. We want to
thank all of our clients for making our first year a fun and exciting one. We celebrated
our 1 year anniversary with all of our friends and had a great cookout that day. We
have been sponsoring many new racers and have our name at all types of events. You
can find us at the MX-tracks, Road race tracks and now at the Flat Tracks with #96
Dalton Brisbois! Look this young man up and remember his name because he is the

July 4th Race Report • We had a good weekend of racing in Frederick, Maryland for the 92nd running of the Steve Nace Amateur All-Star Barbara Fritchie Classic. We took this trip with the legendary AMA Pro Flat Track flagman Kevin Clark
as he is a good family friend of ours and helps us with bike setup and what not. This
was a really tricky track as the front straight away was uphill and the back stretch
was downhill, making for some good racing. This track was also super fast and super
narrow, making it super dangerous. As we went out for first practice at 9:30am, the track was amazing. I felt really confident as we kept our settings going
into heat races. My Open Singles Amateur heat was up first and I was the only 250 in the class. I got off of the line 3rd and stayed there for 5 out of 6 laps
getting passed on the last lap by a 450. The 250 heat rolled up and we got the whole shot only to be put back into second in the first corner. The leader and
I pulled away from the rest of the pack, giving us lots of confidence heading into main events. We were already ahead of some of the competition as we had
direct transfers into both mains! In the Open Singles main, I got off of the line 11th and stayed there the whole race. Not bad considering I was one of two
250’s in the field and the first 250 to finish the race. Throughout the day the track had drastically changed. Nice cushion went to hard, dry-slick dirt. I got off
the line 3rd in the 250 main staying there until lap 5 where I blew the groove of the race track hitting the hay bales. I managed to keep the motorcycle up and
running but the entire field had already passed. I worked my way back to have a vicious battle for 3rd place but losing position to 4th on the last lap. We were
thankful to be safe and well but know with some setup changes we could have performed as I did in the heat race. Our next events are the Lee Thomas Cup
at Square Deal Riders in Port Crane, NY on Saturday. We have a double header this weekend as well, racing at Wachusett Valley Riders Club in Winchendon,
Massachusetts. Wish me luck! Thanks for supporting me!”

We also had some great results at the Loudon Classic! For the first time we have our name at NHIS and are turning a lot of heads. We are supporting Chris
Dove and Christian Smutnick on their CBR1000 and KTM 520 and soon to come, a GSXR600. I hope to brake out the leathers and take a few laps by the end
of the season.
This Fall, we are really motivated to move some Jet Skis. Kawasaki is also motivated in moving some Jet Skis and has given us up to $1500 to play with. We
are also throwing in a coast guard kit valued over $200. There is no better time to get out there and enjoy the water.
Central Mass Powersports is excited to announce that Kawasaki has teamed back up with The Penguin Road Race School. If you think you got what it takes
or just want to improve your skills, the School is a great place to do so.

How Long Should the F&I Process Take? George Angus
In last week’s message, “Why Some Ideas Work for You and Others Don’t” I discussed the difference in the “Up sell” approach to F&I versus the “Information Provider” philosophy. If you missed it you can read it at http://p0.vresp.com/pPBOsv
In that message I noted that one of the key differences between the “Up Sell” vs. “Information Provider” philosophies is the amount of time the F&I process takes.
So, how long should the F&I process take?
Well, if you had asked me that question years ago when I did F&I, I would have said “It takes as long as it takes. What part of the job do you want me to leave out?”
And that would have been a legitimate answer. In some ways it still is. There are a lot of things the F&I manager has to do to deliver a car today. And those
things take time. While the speed of getting approvals and the faster processing time of some of the latest software can help speed up the process, it still takes
a certain amount of time to do your job.
But we also need to recognize that the world is changing. Today you hear more and more from GM’s, sales staffs, and most importantly from the customers, that
the F&I process just takes too long. It’s one of the reasons dealers can get persuaded to eliminate the F&I process altogether.
That’s why, over the years of developing the F&I process, we continually looked for and tested new ways to shorten the process without losing performance. And that research
produced an interesting phenomenon. We found that eliminating some unnecessary and time consuming techniques actually produced better performance.
Less was measurably better than more.
But it’s not always easy to convince F&I professionals to eliminate some commonly accepted techniques. Most of us are sales oriented types. It’s easy for us to believe that if
a little bit of something is good, more will be better.
But we found a real disconnect between conventional F&I approaches and what the customers were telling us. The conventional techniques involved things like going out to
the showroom and interviewing the customer, gathering information, developing a little “rapport”, and then, believing this made them comfortable with us, we would bring
them into the F&I office and go into long drawn out sales pitches, pull out our props and brochures, and then use what we learned in the interview to overcome their objections.
Of course, “Up Selling” can make sense to those of us who used to sell cars. But in creating top F&I performance, it is important that we understand that selling an automobile
is a completely different science than the F&I process. In the F&I process, the more time consuming a technique, the more it works against us.
Here’s an example I like to use that everyone can relate to:
Let’s say you are on the way home from work and you have to stop at the grocery store to pick up three or four things. So you run in, grab those few things and head for the
“15 items or less” checkout lane. Now you’re tired and you just want to pay for the stuff and get out of there.
Then, while you’re in line, you notice that the checkout lady is chatting up the customers ahead of you. You know, talking about her kids, (bleep, she scans an item), and talks
about the weather, (bleep), “Oh, wait, I think there’s a coupon for this”, (bleep), and blah, blah, blah, (bleep).
Why is she doing that?
You see, she has convinced herself that she is an “ambassador” for the store. She truly believes that the customers appreciate her magnificent personality, love coming to chat
with her, and that making friends with everyone and chatting them up builds customer loyalty.
And you won’t convince her otherwise.
But as the customer, what are you thinking standing in that line?
You just want to pay for your stuff and get out of there. And you know what? Your customers feel exactly the same way.
Now of course, buying a car is a much bigger deal than buying a few groceries. But buying a car is also a very trying intellectual and emotional process for the buying public.
They are mentally tired by the time they get to F&I and just want to get the paperwork done and get in their new car and go.
The approach that customers respond to best is that of an efficient and professional business manager, not another salesperson. While we want to be cordial, we want to go
straight to business and move through the process quickly, without wasting time trying to develop “rapport” and win the customer over. That’s the job of the sales staff, not
the F&I managers.
Now, like the lady above, some of you are thinking “He doesn’t know me. My customers love me”.
Well, let me tell you what the customers tell us. There’s a thin line between establishing “rapport” and irritating a customer who just wants to pay and go. And we almost always
cross it when we try to become the “ambassador” for the dealership.
If you want to make the customers “like” you, and the buying experience, get them into your office as soon as possible, get your business done in an efficient and prompt
manner, and get them on the road as soon as practical.
Our Package Option™ approach does this. And the result is that customers continually tell our F&I professionals how much they appreciated the way they were treated. We also
hear all the time from GM’s and dealers about customers actually taking the time to add favorable comments about the F&I process on their CSI questionnaires.
Some of the things they mention are how easy the process is, its’ simplicity, and how honest and up front they felt the F&I manager was. But one thing they mention quite often
is their appreciation of how fast they got in and out of the F&I office.
And that is no accident. We know that the key to a top performing F&I process is that it is easy, simple, and fast, not only for the F&I manager, but for the customer.

In the last issue of the POST, we left off highlighting the importance of not pre-judging whether a customer is a buyer…or not. Hopefully you have had an opportunity to
test the concept and make an extra sale or two. I left you off with the next important
word in the process, connection.
You all know how smoothly the experience can go when you have a connection with
your guest. It has been proven time and time again that the more time you spend
connecting with your guest the less time you spend closing the sale. Conversely, the
less time you spend connecting, the more time you spend negotiating and closing the
sale. So, how do you connect? In many ways…

First, remember to wear your smile. Everyone likes to be greeted, especially if it’s by a
friendly smiling face. Whether it’s in person or on the phone, smile before addressing
your guest. Look for common and or mutual interests. A t-shirt or hat worn with
a school or sports team on it is an easy icebreaker. You may like the guest’s car and
ask him or her a question about it. As common and sometimes mundane as it is,
the weather is always a common interest if, and read this carefully, if your interest
is sincere. The new buzzword in quality service this year is “Insincere Sincerity”. Be
sincere when you talk with your guest. They know when you are not really interested
and nothing will turn them off faster. How about the credit application? How often
do we tell a guest to go online and fill out the credit application or sit at that desk and
fill out the application? Want to connect? Want to provide an exceptional guest experience? Start by filling out the credit application with and for your guest. Imagine the
possible common ground you will find by asking the questions necessary to complete
the application. Good conversation breeds good connections; Good connections lead
to excellent guest experiences; Excellent guest experiences lead to many successfully
closed sales; Many sales lead to Top Gun. Need I say more?

Mr. Sweeney, having possessed an affinity
for motorcycles since childhood, was first
introduced to the company in 1988 when
he stopped in looking to buy a new dirt
bike. He lived in Lynn and also had a camp
in Meredith. Loving anything with a motor, Sean had made an active hobby
out of racing motocross and always preferred to work on bikes himself. With
a 60% hearing loss in his right ear and a 50% loss in the left, the noise never
seemed to bother him.
As the son of Mr. Sean Sweeney, Tyler
grew up watching his father ride at the race
tracks, even when he was only a few weeks
old. His destiny began to take shape at the
age of four when he was given his very first
bike, a 25 D. He started out practicing on dirt tracks. While this out between
the ages of eleven and fifteen he picked it right back up with a 125 GP, eventually finding work driving tow trucks and testing his skills as a mechanic.
Tyler describes his first time riding by himself in one simple word, “Awesome!”. Going back, his first ever race came in 2004 on a KX 65. To him it
was the longest of his life. Though both overwhelming and heart racing in
the days, hours, minutes, and seconds leading up to the start, all of his reservations melted away as he took off and everything just “clicked”. What truly
this cemented this as calling, however, was the fact that won! With a second
win following soon after.
While visiting Beverly Sean discovered Cycles! 128 around the time of 1989
to 1990. Previously winning championships at the regional track in Loudon,
he discussed the races with my great uncle Fred, brother to my grandfather
Ralph and a co-founder of the dealership. Taking two years off in the late
90s he finally got a call to race for Honda in 1999 which in turn led to him
racing under a company contract up through the year 2000. Having become
an affiliate of the company he began his work with setup and moving crates.
Despite having no prior schooling in the industry Sean acquired his knowledge on bikes and motors via books and guides. His fellow employees proved
instrumental in continuing his participation as he even continued building
motors during his time as a non affiliate.
Between 2006 and 2007 he took another break before continuing his riding
career, this time with road racing. As he experienced the same jitters that
initially plagued him when preparing to dirt race, Tyler decided on attending
“penguin school”, a special course revolving around road racing for the sake
of honing the skills of aspiring riders. Upon racing day it once again became
second. The instant the flag dropped he rode straight to victory!
Somewhere around 2007 to 2008 he parted ways with Cycles! to work independently before returning once more in 2012. As a level 2 Ducati technician
he was set to receive his Master’s Degree. Still a fan of racing Sean passed his
passion on to his son Tyler who made a regular habit out of riding with his
dad on weekends. Their ride of choice became the “Supermoto”, a bike capable of riding on both dirt and tracks. In addition they both enjoyed camping
and boating, as well as assisting and teaching newcomers to the industry the
tools of the trade. They found great satisfaction in obtaining further knowledge and establishing a true sense of camaraderie. Sean claims that he has
been doing it so long it’s become “as natural as tying my shoes”.
Before long Tyler was introduced to the “supermoto”, a bike designed for a combination
of both dirt and pavement. Having gone pro
by this point he ranked amongst the Top 5
in the Supermoto Races. He went on to gain
multiple sponsors including Cycles!128, Arai,
Chicken Hawk Racing, Dunlop Tires, Adrenaline City Racing, and 139 Designs. Tyler and
his dad continue to ride today with a promising future ahead.

2015 VICTORY MAGNUM — Mike Hunter’s

Here’s a slogan that Victory has coined for its latest bagger, the 2015 Magnum:
Envy Comes Standard. Is the new bike, which is based on the Cross Country
platform, worthy of such praise?
Victory officials naturally think so. “The Magnum brings even more attitude to
a bike that is already well known for that,” said one company rep. “Riders have
been asking for, or building, this kind of bike for several years now. The Magnum
brings it all to market in a complete package ready to roll, with built-in Victory
reliability, handling and warranty.”
With a history of model names like Jackpot, Eight Ball and Vegas, what better
location for a press reveal/ride than Sin City itself? Our hosts even staged a
high-stakes poker run on several stock and accessorized Magnums. The lucky
winning publication would win a fully kitted Magnum to be presented as a
reader sweepstakes prize!
No such luck here. But the Magnum deals a
hot hand with its 21-inch custom cast front
wheel, Low-Pro saddle and slammed backend. Revised linkage cuts rear suspension
travel by an inch, while also yielding a
claimed 25.7-inch seat height for easy
footing at stops. Even while riding two-up,
I could feel the rear suspension soak up the
pavement heaves caused by heavy truck
traffic in the desert. Apart from having predictable steering and good stability,
the Magnum is an easy machine to be fluid on with loads of torque, smooth
throttle response, slick shift action and nicely calibrated ABS.
The Magnum’s sound system features
an AM/FM radio along with USB and
Bluetooth connectivity with a 100-watt
amplifier driving six dash-mount speakers.
While it proved plenty loud at stoplights and
while cruising the Las Vegas Strip, freeway
speeds didn’t make for easy listening.
Slated for a September arrival, the Magnum comes in a choice of four color
schemes ranging in price from $21,999 for Metasheen Black over Supersteel
Gray, $22,499 for Plasma Lime and Sunset Red over Supersteel Gray and $22,999
for Ness Midnight Cherry, each with color-matched oil-cooler shroud and
painted dash.
While the poker hand I was dealt left much to be desired, my gal and I both agree
that the new Magnum is a pat hand. I guess you could say Victory’s future looks
as bright as the Magnum’s exclusive new LED headlight.

Mr. Hunter held ownership over a detailing company for
nine years managing a crew of 6 before business began to
slow, eventually resulting in a shutdown. Wishing to remain
active in the garage industry, he visited Cycles! 128 in Beverly after hearing of an opening in the service department.
Upon spotting an ad for employment he decided to apply,
owing to his previous experience with customer service,
bike building, and knowledge of 12 Volt electronics and installing audio for cars, along with DVD players and remote
starters even before his work in detailing began.
Mike has since spent five years servicing bikes for the company and acting as a service advisor. Proving his electrical
knowledge to be a valuable asset, he continues to show
great passion for the industry; the best parts being (according to him) the people he works with, regular interactions
with customers, and just doing what he loves. As such Mike
is well versed in proper storage procedures for which he
has cited the following tips:
•Always make sure fuel is stabilized.
•Keep batteries well maintained throughout
the winter season.
•Check air pressure when preparing tires.
•Remember to change oil.
Mike’s interest in motorcycles and electronics has been active since his childhood with aspirations of one day working
firsthand in the industry. His dream became a reality at the
age of twenty-two when he purchased his first bike an FZR
600, a single liter bike. This would later be outdone ten fold
by his fully customized GSX-R 1000, a custom made show
bike which he built and was responsible for hooking Mike
into the business. He currently rides a 2003 Harley Davidson which he has also customized and enjoys taking up to
the mountains of New Hampshire.

An Introduction to “Scooters”
for the Motorcycle Owner and
for the Non-Motorcycle Owner
Let’s clear these up right now:
Q:They are the nerdy looking things, right?
A: Yes. Whatever. Your mom
is a nerd.
Q:Is it a moped?
A:No, mopeds have pedals.
What is a scooter? Legally speaking, they are small displacement motorbikes
that have a modest top speed. On the street they are usually smaller and
slower while still overlapping the “motorcycle” definition in every way, but
rule the roost on ease of use and fuel economy. Most importantly they are
fun and rewarding to ride. These things you probably could have guessed.

The humble and friendly scooter is not a two wheeled jet fighter or a flying
sofa. They are commuters and grocery getters. They are supremely utilitarian and are suitable for common everyday use from May 1st through January 1st. I used to commute five days a week from Beverly, MA to downtown
Boston in a 50cc automatic shift scooter. More fun than the train, easier and
cheaper than my car. Do you really need a reason to get another motorbike?
Your CBR1800RR needs a pet. Nobody is going to argue with a scooter.
If you don’t yet own any motorized two wheeled vehicles – this is the place
to be.
A quality scooter will grant you a good experience and years of low maintenance riding. You don’t need to see or touch the motor. Inexpensive to
register and insure, they don’t intimidate, and are easy to ride and care for.
If you ever get the notion that driving your SUV to the hardware store to
buy garden hose gaskets is absurd, it’s true. Fire up a scooter and make the
errand into a fun trip, even stop by Nick’s Roast Beef on the way. Your scooter
easily gets 100+ MPG (actual), and you will need to invest only six dollars
worth of gas every month or so. Scooters are the ultimate beach machine (I
always find a parking space, even at Singing Beach!). Scooters aren’t crazy,
just crazy fun!

Central Mass Powersports Round 4 #123
I rolled in late Friday afternoon with a freshly built GSXR600 and an overhauled KTM. I had planned to practice all day Friday and shake both
down, plans are nice to have. I wrenched and wrenched Friday until it was 1am. With Christian’s help we had gearing on the new GSXR. The
bikes were looking great thanks to CMP and TSS Graphics, we felt confident.
1 practice session with each bike Saturday morning to perform system
checks. A couple of minor hiccups were overcome with the help of Jimmy
Alessandrini (Central Mass Powersports Tech). I was so incredibly lucky
that the shop sent him up to help, please come back, Jimmy!
Jon Dixon (Advanced Traction) was kind enough to join us for round 4.
With his help, we found a base setting with the GSXR’s new suspension
we could run on and made some positive progress with the KTM. Time
to go racing.
Saturday, race 4 – AM Super Singles - KTM (1st) 1.24.2
Great start off the line and we’re right in the middle of the experts. It seemed
like a few of the experts were hesitant on lap 1 so I took advantage making
a few passes to get myself somewhere in the top 8. I ran around with them
for the race, adding reference points and stretching markers. Great way to
start the weekend. I took the AM win and finished top 10 with the experts.
Saturday, race 8 – AM HW Superbike - GSXR (16th) 1.22.5
Two goals for this race. First, I needed to get a feel for the sportbike again. It’s been a couple of years since I turned a wheel in anger on a supersport.
My second goal was to beat Mo Kaadum (AM #521). At rd. 3 – Mo walked up into my garage and declared a bet was in order. We were going to race
rd. 4 – loser wears the winner’s shirt. The GSXR’s new Ohlins suspension was dialed thanks to Jon. I took a few laps to get back into the groove while
watching Mo scoot around and then saw an easy opportunity to pass when he missed a shift going into 3. Around the outside we went and eventually
on to 16th place. I went progressively faster, felt better and better with each lap. I think I can go pretty good on this bike with a few rider/bike tweaks.
Most importantly – I beat Mo! He was such a great sport and a ton of fun to race with, thanks Mo.

Mechanical, realized something was up on the out lap. Launched with the
green flag, still felt wrong…pulled the clutch in, raised my hand and limped
her around back to the pits. This is racing sometimes, we learned.
Mediocre start off the line and I immediately settled in behind this
weird contraption ahead of me. It looked like an old fz400 but moved
like a 250gp. Is this guy in the right race? I watched this strange machine
consistently pull a ¼ second on me per lap while I tried harder and
harder to no avail. His name is Coombs – he’s not to be trusted. I’m
coming for you Coombs.
Sunday, race 10 – AM LW Supersport – KTM (1st) 1.23.7
Holeshot into 1 and never looked back. I focused on relaxing, breathing, being
smooth and enjoying this last race of the weekend. Big wheelie on the cool
down lap for the awesome corner workers and fans!
Sunday, race 1 – AM MW Superbike – KTM (19th) 1.27.1
Support from Central Mass Powersports, TSS Graphics, Advanced Traction,
Pirelli, Jimmy, Ethan, Mr. Smutnick and everyone else who played a part.
Awful race. We sat around for 2+ hours while the rainy track dried. Very
frustrating as the GSXR was on full wets. The race was finally called
next and we all realized it was going to be a dry(ish) race. Christian,
Kevin, Jimmy, Ethan – it was all hands on deck. With 2 minutes on the
clock – rains were switched out on the KTM to slicks (GSXR only had
one set of rims w/rains mounted) and we made the grid with the KTM.
I circulated, kept it upright, finished and came home in 19th – meh,
one to forget.
Sunday, race 4 – AM LW Superbike – KTM (5th) 1.24.2
Pretty uneventful race, decent jump off the line – diced it up with a few
guys and settled into 5th. Lonely race in 5th to the checkers.
Sunday, race 6 – AM Motard – KTM (1st) 1.23.8
AM and EX combined with 2 empty rows between us. I took the AM
holeshot and was near the front of the experts going into 1 – let’s get it
on. I knew where traction was available from previous races and pushed
a bit in places some of the other guys weren’t willing to. I watched Jason
Cavanaugh (#67) the entire race. I’d come up the hill out of 3 and they’d
enter the bowl. I just couldn’t close the gap but had a ton of fun trying.
I won the AM race and finished 4th within the expert race, felt great!
