egarded as one of the finest classical singers of her generation, Kaushiki won
the prestigious BBC World Music Award for her album ‘Pure’, which received
worldwide recognition.
An exciting and innovative performer, Kaushiki is recognized as a unique vocalist with a
wide repertoire of Indian classical music. She trained since childhood under her father, the
legendary classical singer Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and other great Indian maestros. Kaushiki
is blessed with a rare melodious voice and exceptional musical talent, which has been cultured
by her Guru, parents, and many years of dedicated practice.
Kaushiki will be accompanied on Tabla by top-ranking Indian percussionist Vijay Ghate.
The concert will also feature a duet between Kaushiki and the acclaimed Sarod maestro
from England, Soumik Datta. Leading harmonium and Sarangi players will also accompany
Kaushiki’s performance.

S
oumik Datta first walked
into the limelight when he
performed with Beyoncé, Bill
Bailey and Akram Khan. Today
aged 29, this ‘British Sarod
Maestro’ (Time Out) has taken
the ancient, Indian, stringed
instrument into a global arena.
Supported by the British Council,
Arts Council England, Performing
Right Society (PRS) and his own company SDA, Soumik creates new work on residencies in UK,
Indonesia, USA and India with orchestras, dance companies and film makers. Current collaborators
include Shankar Mahadevan, Nitin Sawhney, Scottish chamber orchestra and Talvin Singh.
A Masters graduate of Trinity College of Music, London, and Protégé of the legendary Sarod
maestro, Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, Soumik is now ‘one of the biggest new talents in Britain
(Vogue). Presently, he is working on ‘Lanka’, an unprecedented solo Sarod show with live music,
film and animation (releasing June 2013). Soumik has composed for feature films, ‘Life Goes On’
and ‘Tooting Broadway’.

Pandit Vijay Ghate, Tabla
andit Vijay Ghate is one of the most sought-­after
Tabla players in India today. Vijay is highly regarded by both Indian and Western performers for his
clarity, dexterity, and accuracy of complex tabla compositions.
He has accompanied well-known masters of Indian classical music including Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad
Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Birju
Maharaj, Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pandit Vishwa
Mohan Bhat.
Vijay is appreciated for his forays into world fusion music
with well-known artists from the west, including Jethro Tull
and George Dukes, Al Jarreau, and Ravi Coltrane.
